As we look forward to our next rankings updates after the conclusion of the state championship game we wanted to highlight some of the prospects in the 2027 class that impressed in the 5A – 8A State Championship Games on the offensive side of the ball.

RB Broden Mackert (Providence Catholic – 2027)

The junior running back goes 6'2” 205 pounds. He runs with a lot of power and good ball security. Liked how he ran behind his pads in the 5A state championship game consistently moving the pile forward. Explodes through the hole. He had one spectacular run for 42 yards where he spun off a tackler then turned on the burners downfield. Definitely a prospect that will be making his debut in our next rankings update. Finished with 126 yards on 17 carries and 1 touchdown.

RB [player_tooltip player_id='788737' first='Myson' last='Johnson-Cook'] (East St. Louis – 2027)

The #1 player in the state absolutely looked the part in the Flyers state championship game loss to Fenwick. You don't fully realize how big and fast he is until you are on the field. He glides so easily and effortlessly. Running style is very similar to Adrian Peterson. Runs inside with power and outside with speed. Blows up defensive backs that try to tackle him high. He had 181 yards and 2 touchdowns on 26 carries.

RB [player_tooltip player_id='1604137' first='Ahmad' last='Coleman'] (East St. Louis – 2027)

Coleman is the #2 back in the Flyers offense. More of a quick and speed back to Johnson-Cook's power. Really like his vision and slashing running style. Explosive in between the tackles and uses his speed on the outside including a touchdown run in the title game where he had 102 yards on just 11 carries.

RB [player_tooltip player_id='1282833' first='Amir' last='Tillman'] (East St. Louis – 2027)

The other home run threat in the East St. Louis backfield is Tillman. He ripped off a 55 yard touchdown where he hid behind his line and then turned on the gas when in the open field.

RB [player_tooltip player_id='1619312' first='Brandon' last='Johnson'] Jr (St. Rita – 2027)

Johnson is coming off a strong junior campaign and was really their only offense in the championship game. He ran for 54 yards on 13 carries. The 5'11” bowling ball back hits the hole hard and bounces off defenders. Good vision, patience, and power as a junior back.

WR [player_tooltip player_id='1335411' first='Ronnie' last='Gomiller'] (East St. Louis – 2027)

Solid game for Gomiller in the championship. He was the most reliable pass catcher for Shanklin in this game. Excels on bubble screens where he can break down defenders and make them miss in tight spaces. Slick route runner and has good speed. Went for 7 catches and 72 yards.

OL [player_tooltip player_id='1335452' first='Ethan' last='Posey'] (Brother Rice – 2027)

Posey is a left tackle at 6'4” 300 pounds that projects among the premier 2027 offensive lineman in the class. Great size, strength, and athleticism. He is light on his feet in pass protection doing a nice job of using his length to keep defenders out of his body. In the run game he locks on and drives with his lower half. A lot to like here for this P4 tackle.

OL Chase Clark (Mt. Carmel – 2027)

Clark is a prospect that has kind of flown under the radar a little, but at 6'5” 275 pounds this right tackle has a lot to work with. Extremely light on his feet, good athleticism, and can drive with his lower half. Did a nice job getting to the second level. Projects as one of the better offensive tackles in a strong 2027 group.
