This weekend will mark the end of the 2025 high school football season across Minnesota where we will have our state champions of this season in each of the 7 conferences across the state. 7 matches between Friday and Saturday will determine which teams will come out on top, with the title games for classes 1A, 2A, 4A, and 6A taking place on Friday and the title games from Classes 3A and 5A, as well as the 9-man league which will take place on Saturday. Leading up to these games, we take a sneak peak of what to expect between the finalists in each of these conferences before their big games!

This will be an intriguing battle between two of the top scoring offenses in the 9-man league. The Comets have been nearly unstoppable, with the top overall passing unit in the conference as well as the third highest rushing TDs (37) in the conference this season. Their offense has scored 30+ points in all but 2 games this season, and while they've been dominant through the regular season, their deficits were cut closer over the last two games, winning by a total margin of 8 points. On the other hand, the Patriots have been absolutely throttling their opponents through the year, having scored at least 40 points of offense in all but one game while giving up a total of 7.1 PPG on defense. Hills-Beaver Creek might have the better balance of offensive-defensive dominance compared to the Comets, but I wouldn't be surprised if this game ends up as a prolific shootout.

Minneota's path to a 4th straight state championship will have to go through Breckenridge, and it should be an exciting one between the two top scoring offenses in 1A (617-558). The Rebels have the most rushing yards in the conference while averaging an impressive 10.1 YPC. The Vikings rank third in the conference in rushing yards while their 57 rushing touchdowns rank third most in the entire state. Both teams also show a fair level of balance in the pass, with Minneota ranking 5th in the conference in passing yards, while the Rebels have been more precise, holding a 21:2 TD-INT ratio. The key of the game will be the defense however, as the Vikings have outpaced the Rebels in scoring defense (88-152). Minneota has only allowed 20+ points in a single game all season, though the Rebels shouldn't be underestimated, as they have a very legitimate group of young athletes that will be fueled with the potential to knock off the reigning, defending kings of the conference in order to take the throne for themselves.

Of course, the primary focus for the Huskies will be on [player_tooltip player_id='212362' first='Roman' last='Voss'], the top-ranked football prospect in Minnesota who has once again thrived under Center for the Huskies, and with him at QB, the Huskies will be favored to earn back-to-back state title championships this weekend. Their offense has scored 40+ points in all but 2 games this season, and through the playoffs, they've shattered their opponents. They are coming off a 38-0 shutout over Eden-Valley Watkins. Goodhue is decidedly the underdog heading into this matchup, but with an offense that ranks 2nd in the conference in scoring (463) as well as the second highest total rushing yards in the conference, the Wildcats do have a fighting chance if they are able to wear down the Huskies' run defense. If the Huskies shut down the run and force the Wildcats to predominantly throw the ball, even with a 15:3 TD-INT ratio this season, Goodhue, who has only thrown the ball 99 times this season could be prone to turnovers having to abandon their run game if they fall behind early, which could give the Huskies the advantage to pounce ahead and put the Wildcats in a chokehold en route to back-to-back titles.

Unlike our previous aformentioned matchups, the 3A title between Annandale and Waseca might end up more as a defensive battle. Waseca has given up just 7.8 PPG while Annandale has given up just 6.9 PPG on defense. These are two very legit units that have been stifling their opponents all season. Annandale has maintained a strong level of success on the offensive side of the ball throughout the season, having scored less than 30 points once all season, and they've continued to thrive through the playoffs. Waseca's offense has shown signs of slowing down, being limited to just 14 points of scoring in each of the last two games. The Cardinals will look to gain leverage in the 2A title game by grinding their way through the Bluejays' defense and looking to gain leverage through their offense. These two perennial contenders have been in the hunt over the last few years, but have just failed to climb over the last hurdle. On Saturday, one of these two teams will finally climb to the top of the mountain and bring the championship home.

The 4A title game will be a matchup of two unlikely teams who managed to push their way into the championship, with the Komets stunning #1-ranked Grand Rapids while Orono won on a miraculous two-point conversion from the 18 yard line against Marshall. The Komets hold the second highest scoring offense (402) in the conference while the Spartans hold a better defensive unit (11.8 PPG allowed). However, the key for these two have been despite facing heavy odds, they've been able to find ways to pull through in the games that have mattered this season. I wouldn't be surprised to see this matchup end up going down to the wire, as these are two hungry teams who have come close but have fallen short over the last two years, and both units will look to leave everything on the field in order to outperform the other for the 4A title.

Chanhassen has set the stage to potentially earn their third straight state championship title, and the one team remaining that stands in the way toward that goal is Spring Lake Park. The Panthers have benefited with the 4th highest scoring offense (405) in the conference as well as the second most rushing yards in 5A. Their aggressive defense has racked up 28.5 sacks and 26 total turnovers on their opponents this season. Chanhassen's offense showcases a strong level of balance between their pass and run game, including the second most passing yards and TDs (28) in the conference. The key for the Hawks will be their ability to control the game and manage the clock with steady drives that chip away at the Panthers, which may force them to abandon their run game if they don't have a lot of time to work with. The Panthers will look to create pressure to disrupt the offensive flow for the Hawks, which in turn could lead to forcing turnovers that could give them leverage. Both teams will need to limit their mistakes and take advantage of every opportunity they receive in order to outduel the other in the title game.

Two lower ranked teams in the 6A conference managed to maneuver their way through the bracket and find themselves in the state championship. The matchup features the 2nd and 3rd ranked scoring offenses in the conference (419-382) with two well balanced offenses led by two of the very best QBs in the state, [player_tooltip player_id='1194605' first='Jett' last='Feeney'] and [player_tooltip player_id='592125' first='Mason' last='West']. Edina's offense is explosive with West under Center, and Moorhead's offense relies heavily under Feeney's leadership, and the anticipation will be that this 6A championship will end up as a shootout as these two titans will duel it out. The offense that generates more firepower and explosiveness will win out, and one of these two star QBs will cap their high school careers with a state title added to their belt.
