Week 8 – Elite Teams Rising To The Top

As we are now heading toward Week 8 in this quick moving high school football season, it is evident that the top teams are now starting to make their move.
With many of the important non-district games yielding to the district matchups you will be able to see which teams will be the higher seeds when the state playoffs begin in the second week of November.
As you will see from this week's rankings, many of those team who are still unbeaten are beginning to make some noise and will certainly be respected over the next six weeks.
Here is a look at this week's Prep Redzone Florida's top programs:
1 Bradenton IMG Academy (Independent, 6-0). The Ascenders defeated defending 7A state champion Venice, 27-14. THIS WEEK: Bye. NEXT WEEK: Opponent To Be Named.
2. Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas (5A, 5-1). The Raiders were off as they prepared for tomorrow's (Wednesday) game in England against the NFL Academy. this past week. NEXT WEEK: 10/17 – Coconut Creek Monarch.
3. Miami Northwestern (3A, 5-1). The Bulls beat No. 6 Miami Central in their annual clash, 30-21. THIS WEEK: 10/11 – Key West. NEXT WEEK: 10/17 – Miami Palmetto (GMAC WEEK).
4. Hollywood Chaminade-Madonna (1A, 5-1). The Lions won a weather-shortened 28-7 game against Coconut Creek Monarch. THIS WEEK: 10/10 – Pompano Beach Blanche Ely. NEXT WEEK: Bye.
5. Seffner Armwood (6A, 6-0). The Hawks enjoyed the week off. THIS WEEK: 10/10 - @Tampa Sickles. NEXT WEEK: 10/17 - @Lutz Steinbrenner.
6. Jacksonville Raines (3A, 5-0). It's been a month since the defending state 3A runner up Vikings have given up a touchdown as they beat longtime rival Jacksonville Ribault, 53-0. THIS WEEK: 10/10 – Madison County. NEXT WEEK: 10/17 – St. Johns Creekside.
7. Miami Central (3A, 4-1). The Rockets dropped a 30-21 decision to longtime rival and No. 3 Miami Northwestern, 31-20 and then bounced back on Monday with a 60-0 win against Pompano Beach. THIS WEEK: 10/10 – Fort Lauderdale Stranahan.
8. Miami Southridge (6A, 6-0). It was nearly a month, but the Spartans came from behind to beat Miami Christopher Coumbus, 28-21. THIS WEEK: 10/10 – Southwest Miami. NEXT WEEK: 10/18 – No. 5 Miami Central (GMAC WEEK).
9. Orlando Edgewater (5A, 7-0). The Eagles won a tight game against Winter Park, 28-21. THIS WEEK: 10/10 - @Winter Springs. NEXT WEEK: 10/17 – Orlando Dr. Phillips.
10. Vero Beach (7A, 6-0). The Indians remained unbeaten with a 42-13 win against Miami Booker T. Washington. THIS WEEK: 10/10 – Rockledge. NEXT WEEK: 10/17 - @Pahokee.
11. West Boca Raton (6A, 5-1). The Bulls posted their third shutout in four games with a 35-0 win against a Davie Western team that beat them on the field a year ago. THIS WEEK: 10/10 - @Royal Palm Beach. NEXT WEEK: 10/17 - @West Palm Beach Cardinal Newman.
12. Lakeland (5A, 5-1). The Dreadnaughts won for the fourth straight time, 41-9 against Riverview Sumner. NEXT WEEK: 10/10 – Sebring. NEXT WEEK: 10/17 – Dover Specialty Fit Academy.

14. Sarasota Booker (3A, 6-1). It wasn't easy, but theTornadoes beat a stubborn Sebring squad, 27-20. knocked off Bradenton Bayshore in a district game, 50-0. THIS WEEK: 10/10 - @St. Petersburg Gibbs. NEXT WEEK: Bye.
15. Jacksonville Bolles (2A, 5-1). The Bulldogs had the week off. THIS WEEK: 10/10 -Jacksonville Andrew Jackson. NEXT WEEK: 10/16 – Jacksonville Riverside.
16. Sarasota Cardinal Mooney (2A, 5-1). The Cougars showed why they are one of the best teams in 2A with a convincing 49-28 win against previously unbeaten No. 25 Clearwater Central Catholic. THIS WEEK: 10/10 – No. 19 St. Petersburg Lakewood. NEXT WEEK: 10/17 – Miami Gardens Monsignor Pace.
17. Fort Lauderdale Dillard (4A, 7-0). The Panthers came up with their school record fifth shutout of the season in the annual Broward Soul Bowl against Pompano Beach Blanche Ely, 35-0. THIS WEEK: 10/10 - @Lake Worth Dr. Joaquin Garcia. NEXT WEEK: Bye.
18. Orlando Jones (4A, 4-2). The Tigers enjoyed the week off. THIS WEEK: 10/10 - @Lake Wales. NEXT WEEK: 10/17 - @Apopka Wekiva.
19. St. Petersburg Lakewood (2A, 7-0). The Spartans remained unbeaten with a 50-14 win against Gulfport Boca Ciega. continued to turn heads with a 58-7 win against Tarpon Springs. THIS WEEK: @ No. 16 Sarasota Cardinal Mooney. NEXT WEEK: 10/17 - @St. Petersburg Gibbs.
