Smyrna Shuts Out Stewart's Creek (Game Recap/Top Performers)

<p>To kick off my coverage of week 11, I stopped by Smyrna to watch the Bulldogs take on rival Stewart's Creek in a huge district showdown. After Smyrna completed the shut out of the Red Hawks, here's my full game recap as well as my top performers.</p>   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Top Performers</h2>    <p class="text-gray-700">In the first place spot on my list is [player_tooltip player_id='1667459' first='Trevel' last='Gordon'], a running back/linebacker at Smyrna High School. Gordon was highly explosive on the ground, utilizing his great size and strength on the run to punch through the defense and take it all the way for the touchdown. Gordon also made a number of impressive runs throughout the contest to help the Bulldogs convert on third-down. </p>     <p class="text-gray-700">I was additionally impressed with [player_tooltip player_id='1582357' first='Sucory' last='Weathers'], a defensive back/wide receiver at Smyrna High School. Weathers came in clutch in the second half, hauling in an impressive touchdown pass to extend his team's lead. Weathers stands out with his electric speed off the snap, his ability to handle contact in the backfield, and his outstanding catching ability.</p>     <p class="text-gray-700">Claiming the number three spot on my list is [player_tooltip player_id='1662944' first='Dallas' last='Johnson'], a defensive back/wide receiver at Stewart's Creek High School. Johnson stood out defensively for the Red Hawks, proving his ability to read the offense and make crucial stops. I also liked how Johnson could be utilized offensively to make the tough catches in crunch time.</p>     <p class="text-gray-700">Also worth mentioning is [player_tooltip player_id='1554204' first='Braydon' last='Brown'], a tight end at Stewart's Creek High School. Brown caught my attention with his great size, speed, and catching ability through four quarters. Brown made a difference on third-down and fourth-down, proving he can get open down the stretch, haul in the deep pass, and get his team the first-down.</p>     <p class="text-gray-700">Another talented player to establish himself was AJ Jackson, a quarterback at Smyrna High School. Jackson caught my attention with both his strong passing performance and his ability to run the ball. Jackson showed off his ability to adapt to pressure and take the ball into enemy territory. Jackson closed things out for the Bulldogs in the fourth quarter when he outran the entire defense and punched in the touchdown.</p>     <p class="text-gray-700">Making a difference defensively in the second half was Amarri Hill, a defensive back/wide receiver at Smyrna High School. Hill made the big play in the second half, reading the Red Hawks' offense like a book, beating the receiver to the ball and hauling in the interception. Hill also broke several tackles on his way to the other side of the field, putting the Bulldogs in prime scoring position. Hill's wingspan and ability to get to the ball first impressed me.</p>    <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Game Recap</h2>   <p>Neither team would find the scoreboard until late in the first quarter as the Bulldogs got within field goal range and nailed the kick to give Smyrna the 3-0 lead over Stewart's Creek. Smyrna would quickly extend their lead at the top of the second quarter as [player_tooltip player_id='1667459' first='Trevel' last='Gordon'] found space to break free of the defense and take it all the way to the house for the touchdown. At the half, Smyrna held a 10-0 lead over the Red Hawks. The Bulldogs would add another three points to their lead with a field goal to start the third quarter. Smyrna put things away in the fourth quarter, putting up another two touchdowns. With 10:10 on the clock, [player_tooltip player_id='1582357' first='Sucory' last='Weathers'] hauled in an impressive touchdown pass to give Smyrna a 20-0 lead over Stewart's Creek. The Bulldogs scored again with 4:10 left in the fourth quarter as AJ Jackson would march into the endzone from a few yards out to give the home team a 27-0 lead. The Bulldogs went on to shut out the Red Hawks 27-0.</p>
