As squads load up for playoffs, small-town athletes across the state continue to impress, racking up unheard-of numbers in their pursuit of greatness. Meet some of Week 7's top performers!

QB/DB: [player_tooltip player_id='1290743' first='Reid' last='Hungerholt'], 6'2" 165 lbs, LeRoy-Ostrander/Lyle/Pacelli 2027

When I tell you my job dropped scrolling through 9-Man stats this morning, I mean it. Although LeRoy-Ostrander came up short in a shootout with ACGE, Hungerholt played out of his mind and lit up the field. He went 17/47, but on those 17 completions managed to rack up 386 passing yards and an astounding SIX TDs, both season highs for the junior. He's got some serious upside on the ground, too. Hungerholt rushed for 58 yards, which, while impressive, is just scratching the surface of his talents, and if you dive into his previous tape, you'll see what I'm talking about. Hungerholt is a 2027 that deserves more attention.

WR/DL: Hunter Wollenburg, 6'3" 190 lbs, LeRoy-Ostrander/Lyle/Pacelli 2027

Talk about a breakout game. Wollenburg is a two-sport athlete known for his prowess on the hardwood, but last Friday, he had a career game against ACGE. He caught 6 passes for 149 yards and 2 TDs, while averaging an impressive 24.8 YPR. Those were all season highs for the junior. On defense, Wollenburg continued to impress. He brought down 4 tackles and blocked a kick, which he returned for a TD. He doesn't have any football tape out right now, but if he continues to produce at the level of his Week 7 success, his stock will surely rise.

WR/LB: Talan Lewison, 5'11" 155 lbs, LeRoy-Ostrander/Lyle/Pacelli 2026

I've known about Lewison for a while now, and I'm pumped to see him finding this level of success during his senior campaign. He's been a reliable 1st or 2nd option for his team, and last week he caught 5 balls for 80 yards with a receiving TD. Like every small-town athlete, Lewison starts both ways and was able to recreate his success on the defensive side of the ball, where he brought down 9 total tackles and broke up a pass.

HB/LB: Carson Roe, 5'10" 185 lbs, LeRoy-Ostrander/Lyle/Pacelli 2026

Roe was EVERYWHERE for LOLP last Friday, and had one of the best single-game defensive performances across the state in Week 7. He brought down 13 total tackles (which some might consider an off night), 3 TFLs, and 2 full sacks. He too played a role on offense, rushing 9 times for 18 yards, 1 TD, with a 2-point conversion. As well as catching 2 balls for 17 yards. Through 7 Weeks, Roe is playing at an All-State level. He has 92 total tackles and 8 sacks. If a college can snag him, they're getting a steal.

QB: Henry Wiste, 6'3" 205 lbs, Southland 2027

DIAMOND IN THE ROUGH ALERT!! Wiste is a 6'3" 205-lber hailing from small-town Minnesota who can absolutely sling it. Last Friday, he played an essential part in a 51-14 domination of Hayfield. He went 12/16 (75%) through the air for an astounding 322 yards and 5 TDs through the air, averaging 20.1 YPA, and ending the night with a passer rating of 156.2. He also rushed for 15 yards and found a 2-point conversion on the ground. He has very little tape out, but his frame does look legit, and he moves well in the pocket. Need to get eyes on this kid at a combine this offseason.

ATH: Cael Smith, 5'9" 155 lbs, Southland 2028

Smith has had a number of games this season where he put up eye-popping numbers, and last Friday, he was able to find that incredible level of success again. On just 8 carries, Smith racked up 142 yards on the ground, finding the endzone twice and setting a season high in YPC. He was also elite as a receiver, catching 3 balls for an insane 94 yards, 2 TDs, and catching another for a 2-point conversion, setting season highs in nearly every receiving category. He also had an impact on defense, bringing down two tackles and his first INT of the season. I'm a big fan of Smith's upside in the future.

ATH: Beau Sathre, 6'0" 195 lbs, Southland 2027

Another all-around athlete who excelled last Friday, Sathre boasts a solid frame and the ability to play multiple positions on both sides of the ball. His biggest impact was as a receiver, catching three passes for a season high 128 yards while finding the endzone twice on just three touches. He also brought down 4 total tackles on defense, and had two rushes for 9 yards. Southland has got a good thing going right now, and I'm excited to see the run they'll go on this postseason.

RB: Gavin Lewison, 6'1" 165 lbs, New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva 2026

Lewison had one of the most interesting offensive performances in Week 7, carrying the ball just 10 times for a wild 125 yards and a TD. He also found the endzone off a quick 3-yard reception early in the second quarter. Lewison's stats say he's only seen game action the last two weeks, but if he continues to have this success during the playoffs, he could be a key part in NRHEG's postseason success.

DE: [player_tooltip player_id='1120550' first='Jordan' last='Brouwers'], 6'0" 210 lbs, New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva 2026

One of the leaders on the NRHEG defense through the first 7 weeks of the season, Brouwer, had a fantastic game against Medford last Friday. He was all over the stat sheet, tallying 10 total tackles (season high), 3 TFLs, 1 sack, and his 4th fumble recovery of the season, which he took all the way to the house. He's been an insanely productive defensive lineman through the regular season, and I can't wait to watch how he elevates when the playoffs roll around shortly.

ATH: Calvin Nissen, 5'8" 150 lbs, New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva 2028

Nissen is another 2028 athlete who has the potential to become a high-level prospect in the future. He's gotten experience both taking handoffs and lining up out wide this season, and has also seen significant time on defense and special teams. Against Medford last week, Nissen caught 3 balls for 93 yards and a season high 3 TDs. Scoring every time you're passed to is wild work, but he didn't stop there. Nissen also returned one punt for 27 yards, and returned 4 kicks for 144 yards and another TD. This kid has a nose for the endzone, and I'd love the chance to evaluate him in person this offseason.

RB/LB: Kane Larson, 6'1" 190 lbs, Fillmore Central 2026

A state champion wrestler and a dynamic ball carrier, Larson is a very underrated small-town prospect. He's a bellcow in every definition of the word, and against Lewiston-Altura last week, he rushed a season high 31 times for 155 yards and 2 TDs. He also caught a pass for 7 yards. On defense, Larson continues to produce, this time finding an additional 4 total tackles. He's a great wrestling prospect, no doubt about it, but Larson has collegiate upside playing football as well.

RB/DB: Carter Therkilsen, 5'9" 195 lbs, Red Rock Central 2026

If you want to talk about the best rushing performances in the state from week 7, Therkilsen needs to be in that conversation. He took a crazy 37 carries for 226 yards while finding the endzone twice. He also caught a ball for 14 yards and had a productive 9 total tackles on defense. This isn't anything new for Therkilsen; his last couple of games have seen him rush for 244, 170, 171, and 235 yards. He broke the 5000 career yard barrier this season and needs more attention following all of this success.
