Clovis (California) three-star quarterback Deagan Rose had been committed to the Oregon State Beavers for more than year when he announced he was de-committing on Tuesday.

That news could leave Oregon State scrambling like a quarterback with a banged up offensive line.

But there are two excellent quarterback options for Trent Bray and his coaching staff to consider close to home.

While the Oregon high school football class of 2026 doesn't have many true bluechip prospects, they have a handful of really quality players, including two must-see passers.

And both are off to stellar starts to their senior campaigns.

Mountainside quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='1232699' first='Cade' last='Mitchell'], a New Mexico commit, has experienced a major breakout since the spring camp circuit, winning MVP of both the Avery Showcase and Northwest Showcase camps, as well as MVP of the Les Schwab Bowl.

The 6-foot-3, 210-pound passer - and javelin district champ - entered his senior campaign with tremendous hype, but also big questions.

A collection of the top players in the Mountainside program elected to leave in the offseason, including Washington Huskies commit and two-way all-state standout [player_tooltip player_id='457009' first='Sam' last='Vyhlidal'], big-time wide receiver [player_tooltip player_id='936920' first='Jasiah' last='Agnimel'] all-state-caliber offensive lineman [player_tooltip player_id='1110963' first='Aiden' last='Jakubauskas'], and expectations for the program fell with them.

But Mitchell stayed - and has continued to flourish.

Through the first four weeks of the season Mitchell collected 1,089 total yards with 16 touchdowns while completing 72 percent of his passes.

Big arm. Loyalty. Leadership. Homegrown talent.

Mitchell checks a lot of boxes and might be easier to pull away from his commitment than the second candidate.

Lake Oswego quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='402409' first='Hudson' last='Kurland'], a Washington State Cougars pledge, may be the most under-appreciated passer on the entire West Coast.

He's 6-foot-4 with a big arm and is a team leader.

Lake Oswego coach Steve Coury has seen more than his fair share of future college and NFL talents.

And he can't understand why Kurland doesn't get more love.

“He's 6-foot-4, he's got a strong arm, he's very athletic and bright as can be,” Coury said. “What else do you want?”

Washington State agrees, and jumped on Kurland early in the process, identifying him as the program's next Cam Ward or John Mateer.

Frankly, the only thing Kurland lacks is gaudy stats.

And that only comes from the fact tat Kurland has often been pulled from games as a junior and senior early in the second half because Lake Oswego is already so far ahead.

Currently, Lake Oswego is 5-0 and has outscored its opponents by an average of 37.8 to 8.2 - with wins over quality teams like Central Catholic and Tualatin.

Both Mitchell and Kurland are excellent options late in the process.

It's time to pick up the phone.

The area codes should be familiar.

Clovis (California) three-star quarterback Deagan Rose had been committed to the Oregon State Beavers for more than year when he announced he was de-committing on Tuesday.
