I went back and watched the TV copy of the Brighton vs. Howell game from last Friday so I could scout a few players I wanted to get my eye on, and I am glad I did! Below are a few quick notes on a few guys I really wanted to get a look at.

Jackson absolutely passes the eye test. Strong lower body, able to dig in and move guys out of the way at the point of contact as a blocker on the offensive side of the ball. Defensively, he was a nightmare to block. Great get off speed, doesn't get moved by weak block attempts and has the ability to crush down any semblance of a gap. The Air Force commit showed exactly why Howell holds teams to low scoring numbers routinely- they allow NOTHING up the middle, and it starts with Pahl.

Bryce is really an impressive player on this Howell offense. At 6'4, it's impressive with the speed and agility he is able to run with. His long arms make his stiff arm absolutely lethal, as the defenders have a really hard time getting to his body to wrap him up. Once he breaks into the open field, he shows off a nice burst and acceleration. As you can probably guess, he's also a great blocker. He delivered a few devastating blocks on Brighton defenders, and you could tell they were getting tired of it by the end of the game. I have no idea what kind of hands he has, but I would imagine he will project more as a WR due to the height. Tremendous athlete that more people should be talking about!

I think Dom brings a lot to the table. He's still young and is absolutely still learning, but you can see the flashes. He's confident in the pocket and knows exactly where he is going with the football. A couple of times I think he telegraphed it a bit too much and it cost them, but overall he understands concepts and what he should be doing. I think the mental side of the game is there for him, he just needs to deep developing physically and he will be a hot prospect in the making. I watched him get coached on the sidelines after each drive, and he seemed to take it well and apply it, which is huge.

For and underclassman, it seems like Nauss is beyond his years right now. Great size, good power and vision. I love how hard he hits the hole. The second there's a gap, he hits the gas and blows through the line with a tremendous burst. He is willing and able to participate in the passing game, as he was able to be effective on screens at getting behind his blocks, making a man miss and getting some tough yards. Whether it's inside the tackles or out in space, Nauss has the tools necessary to be a home-run threat. A nice prospect that I will be watching closely over the coming years.

Storm looked really physical and dominant. I was surprised to see that Howell brought a couple of stunts his way, and he appeared to handle it really well. He picked up blitzes and stunts with relative ease, showing that he has the mental side of it down. He is coming along nicely physically well, as he is looking bigger and leaner than ever before. I love his pure aggression. A couple of plays I watched him knock a defender down and just keep trucking into the secondary to find someone else. He absolutely has the mentality you want to see!
