As we enter the final two weeks of the 2025 regular season, we return to check on Class 1A Iowa, where there remains to be 3 undefeated teams and a close-knit group of contenders that will be fighting for spots in the postseason in which they've proven that they deserve a shot to make a run for the state title this season. We recap what went down in Class 1A Iowa over the weekend as we start our week 6 recap!

Top Games:

Union Community vs. Hudson: 27-18

The biggest upset of the week in the conference, the 5-0 Knights went on the road hoping to spoil Hudson's homecoming. However, Hudson came out swinging, thanks to a steady and elusive passing attack, the Pirates erupted with 326 total yards of offense on the Knights. Not only scoring more points than any team against Hudson, but the Pirates also limited the Knights to their lowest scoring game of the season. Hudson refused to let their homecoming be squandered and instead, came away with one of the biggest wins in the state as they are now sitting with a 3 game winning streak following an 0-3 start.

Top Performer: Tade Roberts (SO) - Roberts continues to show why he will be a dangerous name to watch out for in this conference going forward. Roberts finished 17 of 24 for 240 yards and 2 TDs while rushing for 49 yards on 13 carries and 2 rushing TDs.

South Hardin vs. Grundy Center: 21-12

Homecoming night for the Spartans was an exciting one with one of the most anticipated matchups in the state as they hosted #4 ranked South Hardin. It wasn't a pretty game for the Spartans, with missed opportunities and scoring plays called back on penalties, but ultimately, the Tigers were not able to capitalize off of opportunities from their defense, and even though the Tigers outgained the Spartans (308-248), the Spartans did their job in holding the Tigers to just 12 points while finding their rhythm in the second half to put the game away. The Spartans extend their historic win streak to 45 straight games as they continue to prove why they are the best team in Class 1A right now.

Top Performer: [player_tooltip player_id='1614184' first='Judd' last='Jirovsky'] (SR) - The do-it-all standout for the Spartans, Jirovsky was able to eat away the clock by organizing long, sustaining drives. Jirovsky finished 7 of 13 for 58 yards and a TD while rushing for 134 yards on 21 carries (6.4 YPC) and a rushing TD. He added 3 tackles on defense and punted 4 times, averaging 39.3 yards per kick.

Manson-NW Webster vs. Emmetsburg: 36-22

Another homecoming spoiled as the Cougars came onto the road in hostile territory taking on the #8 ranked E-Hawks. Signs of an upset came when the Cougars broke for an early 64 yard rushing TD to take the first lead. Tied at 14 through 3 quarters, the Cougars came away with several explosive offensive plays, combined with some huge defensive stands, the E-Hawks ultimately weren't able to keep up as the Cougars ultimately overwhelmed the E-Hawks defense in the 4th quarter en route to a 36-22 victory. Since starting the season 0-2, the Cougars have now won 4 straight as they have re-inserted themselves very much into playoff contention in the conference.

Top Performer: Jack Hoeppner (SR) - While the Cougars ran for 251 yards on the ground, it was Hoeppner who was responsible with the 2 biggest plays in the passing game, racking up 122 receiving yards as he took both of his receptions to the house. He added 3 tackles and an interception on defense.

South Hamilton vs. Pocahontas Area: 43-36

The matchup between two struggling units in the conference was one of the most engaging affairs in Class 1A last week. This game was determined largely in the trenches as the two units combined for 514 yards of total rushing. Pocahontas Area led 29-14 early in the 3rd quarter when the Hawks erupted with 22 unanswered points, claiming the lead with 10 minutes remaining. Pocahontas Area scored to tie the game with 6 minutes remaining, and after getting the ball back, carefully chewed the clock out before punching in the game winning score with 9 seconds to go. Their 43 points were the most the Indians scored in a single game since 2020 as they now have surpassed their win total from last season with their second on the 2025 year.

Top Performer: Blake Bunda (SO) - Bunda's leadership on the air and on the ground proved critical for the Indians' highest offensive output since 2020 as he finished 9 of 19 for 119 yards, 1 TD, and 1 INT while rushing for 96 yards on 10 carries, 3 rushing TDs, and 1 2PT conversion.

Aplington-Parkersburg vs. Jesup: 20-19

Having been winless across the first 5 games of the season, Jesup fought through the Falcons on Friday to avoid a winless campaign. Trailing 13-7 at halftime, the J-Hawks emerged in the second half, lighting the fuse on a couple of key explosive plays, including some strong defensive stands and sloppy penalties on the Falcons which helped progress the ball down the field for the J-Hawks, the J-Hawks emerged with a 20-13 lead early in the 4th quarter. The Falcons went down the field and scored with less than 4 and a half minutes to go, but their gamble on a game-leading 2-point conversion attempt was snuffed, and while they got the ball back past midfield, the J-Hawks forced a turnover on downs, earning their first win of the season in grueling fashion.

Top Performer: Aiden Youngblut (JR) - The difference maker on all three sides of the ball for Jesup, Youngblut finished with 3 receptions, 21 yards, and a TD on offense to go with 5 tackles (3 solo) and 0.5 tackles on defense. He added 110 kick return yards and a 90 yard kick return touchdown in the upset.

Other Notable Results from Week 6:

Alta-Aurelia vs. Lawton-Bronson: 61-22

Louisa-Muscatine vs. Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont: 56-6

Underwood vs. Missouri Valley: 56-7

Cardinal vs. Durant: 56-8

Tri-Center vs. Treynor: 56-28

Hinton vs. MVAOCOU: 54-14

West Marshall vs. Panorama: 51-7

Central Springs vs. Garner Hayfield Ventura: 50-14

Red Oak vs. Shenandoah: 48-6

West Lyon vs. Ridge View: 48-7

Beckman Catholic vs. Cascade: 48-13

Ogden vs. Pleasantville: 45-7

Regina Catholic vs. Sigourney Keota: 41-7

East Sac County vs. South Central Calhoun: 40-0

Columbus Catholic vs. Sumner-Fredericksburg: 39-8

Eagle Grove vs. Clarion-Goldfield-Dows: 34-16

Northeast vs. Lisbon: 34-21

Interstate 35 vs. West Central Valley: 24-0

MFL MarMac vs. Camanche: 21-12

Top 10 Standouts from Week 6:

QB Ethan Hill (SR) - Treynor: 14/16, 209 yards, 3 TDs, 35 rushing yards on 6 carries (5.8 YPC), 2 rushing TDs

QB [player_tooltip player_id='1221934' first='Garrett' last='Luett'] (SR) - Underwood: 10/15, 207 yards, 3 TDs, 2 INTs, 30 rushing yards on 2 carries, 2 rushing TDs, 1 2PT conversion

RB Wyatt Gelder (SO) - South Hamilton: 194 rushing yards on 27 carries (7.2 YPC), 3 rushing TDs, 3 2PT conversions, 4.5 tackles (3 solo)

RB/LB [player_tooltip player_id='1466768' first='Kinnick' last='Geers'] (SR) - West Marshall: 101 rushing yards on 5 carries (20.2 YPC), 2 rushing TDs, 4 receptions, 103 yards (25.8 YPC), 1 receiving TD, 7 tackles (5 solo), 100 return yards

ATH Coy Moline (SR) - Manson-NW Webster: 73 rushing yards on 16 carries (4.6 YPC), 1 rushing TD, 2 2PT conversions, 1/1, 50 passing yards, 1 passing TD, 9 tackles (5 solo), 1.5 TFLs, 3 punts, 48.7 yards per kick

ATH Jack Hoeppner (SR) - Manson-NW Webster: 2 receptions, 122 receiving yards, 2 receiving TDs, 3 tackles, 1 INT

DL Lewis Jones (SO) - Interstate 35: 5 tackles (3 solo), 4 TFLs, 2 sacks

LB Zane Mullenix (JR) - Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont: 16.5 tackles (11 solo), 2 TFLs, 2 forced fumbles

LB Mavrick Hutton (SR) - Interstate 35: 8 tackles (7 solo), 5 TFLs, 3 sacks

ATH Christian Valenzuela (SR) - Pocahontas Area: 4 tackles (3 solo), 2 INTs, 4 receptions, 74 yards, 1 receiving TD
