An Iowa baseball commit, Garrett Luett Garrett Luett 6'3" | 205 lbs | QB Underwood | 2026 State IA has put his pitching arm to work for Underwood this season. The senior and seventh-ranked QB in the class of 2026, Luett ranks in the top five in 1A in completions (147), passing attempts (243), passing yards (2,222), passing touchdowns (25), offensive yards (2,877) and offensive touchdowns (36).

A quarterback through-and-through, Luett only plays one side of the ball for the Eagles, but with numbers like that, he and his arm have earned the right to lead his team solely from the offensive side of the ball.

With a near three-hour drive from Underwood to West Lyon, Luett will have plenty of time to let his arm rest on the bus ride — the Eagles will need all they can get from him on Friday if they’re going to return to the UNI-Dome for the state semifinals.

The top passer in 1A that played in the class last fall, Garrett Luett Garrett Luett 6'3" | 205 lbs | QB Underwood | 2026 State IA of Underwood threw for 2,184 yards and 22 touchdowns in 2024. Luett possesses an effortless throwing motion that allows him to flick the ball and send it deep. Reminiscent of former Northern Iowa quarterback, Theo Day, Luett can put the ball where it needs to go in the short game but can also launch an easily caught long ball to take the top off the defense.

Committed to play baseball at Iowa, Luett will play his final year of organized football this fall.

Luett led the division with 2184 passing yards to go with 22 touchdowns to 12 picks. He also ran for 410 yards and 8 touchdowns. Being heavily relied on to progress the offense, he did end up making mistakes trying to get the ball down the field, but he hit his targets well more than he missed, and he remains to be sneakily dynamic as a dual-threat. Underwood will benefit having Luett under Center for one more season.

Luett finished with over 2100 passing yards, 22 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions, while rushing for 410 yards and 8 touchdowns. Luett’s progressions are still a work in progress, but when he hits, he’s hitting darts at balloons. Luett continued to showcase impressive throwing power and sharp accuracy at all three levels of the field. Luett already has solidified his future playing baseball for the Hawkeyes, but he has just as much talent on the gridiron, and he’ll look to finish off his time at Underwood by helping the team to the state championship.

While Garrett Luett Garrett Luett 6'3" | 205 lbs | QB Underwood | 2026 State IA wasn’t able to overcome the tenacity of the Blackhawks’ defense on Friday night, Luett gave an excellent effort to drive his team down the field with his dual-threat abilities. Luett finished the night 20 of 35 for 208 yards, a touchdown, and 2 picks, while rushing for an additional 88 yards on 19 carries and a rushing touchdown, accounting for both of Underwood’s scores in the loss. Much of Luett’s production on the air came on quick short passes, and he continued to prove to be reliable running the ball, particularly on the QB draw, in which he scored the first touchdown of the game to put Underwood ahead. The future Hawkeye baseball commit finishes his season with over 2200 passing yards, 22 touchdowns, and 8 rushing touchdowns to finish what has been a stellar junior campaign, and we should expect bigger things from Underwood heading into 2025!

One of the top two-sport athletes in the state, Garrett Luett Garrett Luett 6'3" | 205 lbs | QB Underwood | 2026 State IA enjoyed a solid senior campaign leading the Eagles’ offense, and he saved one of his best games of his career for the end of the regular season. Against Red Oak, Luett finished 16 of 19 for 282 yards and 3 touchdowns while adding 4 carries for 34 yards and a rushing touchdown. Luett showcased his outstanding arm throughout the night, with sharp reads, great accuracy, and his arc on his throws looked as pristine as I’ve seen for a top QB recruit. Luett has already committed to playing baseball at Iowa, but hopefully we’ll get to see one last effort from Luett to help Underwood back to the state title game against the odds.
