KERSHAW | Andrew Jackson linebacker [player_tooltip player_id='1820142' first='Jantzen' last='Jeffers'] summed up the Volunteers 65-0 win over Chesterfield as simply as he could.

“That was fun. It was a lot of fun seeing everyone contributing,” the sophomore said.

It was so fun that all 23 players in uniform got in on the action and impacted the game in one way or another.

Let's start with Jeffers, [player_tooltip player_id='1820148' first='Antonio' last='Grant'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1395000' first='Kamron' last='McGill'] but there will be plenty more to talk about. That trio spent about as much time in the Golden Rams backfield as the three Chesterfield quarterbacks that saw action.

Jeffers (pictured, No. 13) may have had the biggest impact. His scoop and score from 12 yards out started the trend. Just before the half, Jeffers was at it again with a 42-yard fumble return for a touchdown that made it 56-0 at the break.

It was the third time in the last four games that the Volunteers defense has scored a TD.

“Once one or two of us get going, we all sort of get going,” Jeffers said. “It's our chemistry and the way we play with each other.”

But let's not give all the credit just to those three that were instrumental in holding Chesterfield to 28 total yards on 40 offensive plays. The Rams had a negative 18 yards of offense in the second half when a running clock was employed.

Add in [player_tooltip player_id='1816298' first='Nick' last='Carter'], Lex Gallman and Caden Bowers on the defensive front and it was no wonder that 16 of the Rams 40 plays went for no gain or negative yards. Bowers made a tackle in the end zone on the final play of that game for a safety.

Braylon Harley, [player_tooltip player_id='1395004' first='Jase' last='Fair'] and Ja'Cayden Miller Anthony all took turns at linebacker and the secondary and if the defensive line wasn't making the tackle, those three were right there to make sure things didn't go far.

Jayce Brown, J'Von Kelley and [player_tooltip player_id='1394996' first='Damias' last='Seegars'] held down the secondary for the most part with Brown and Seegars snagging interceptions to set up scores. [player_tooltip player_id='1820138' first='Drico' last='Curry'] played most of the second half and more than held his own.

“This gives us a lot of momentum. We will be ready to come to practice next week with a lot of energy so we play well against our next opponent,” Kelly said.

We haven't even started to mention the offense yet. They had so much fun you could have put a circus Big Top on the Battlefield as the PA announcer called it. Andrew Jackson's offense scored on six of seven first half possessions and for the most part, did it quickly.

They opened the game with a little razzle-dazzle. [player_tooltip player_id='1822649' first='Logan' last='Neal'] threw an out pattern to Brown, who flipped it to a streaking Seegars for a perfectly executed Hook and Lateral 60-yard touchdown.

On the third series, Kelly (pictured, No. 5) scored on a 16-yard run to cap a three-play, 47-yard drive. Kelly set the stage for the next TD when he stuffed a fake punt to give the Vols possession at the Rams 24-yard line. Two plays later, Neal connected with [player_tooltip player_id='1822648' first='Zeke' last='Clyburn'] on a 15-yard touchdown that made it 28-0 on the first play of the second quarter.

Seegars set up the next drive with his interception and that four-play, 40-yard drive was capped by Kelly's 19-yard TD. Seegars ended a two-play, 47-yard drive with a 44-yard touchdown run. The final offensive score of the half ended with a 5-play, 32-yard drive when Kelly scored from four yards out with just less than three minutes remaining in the half.

Kelly ran for 85 yards on nine carries with three touchdowns; Seegars added 52 yards rushing and 89 yards receiving and two touchdowns on a total of six touches. Neal completed 7-of-8 for 122 yards and two scores.

“We prepared for this all week with how we approach practice and the weight room,” Kelly said. “It feels great to come out and see our play off in such a big way.”

Andrew Jackson (4-3, 2-0) finished with 323 yards of total offense with 263 of those yards coming in the first half. The Volunteers offensive front paved the way for the dominant performance. [player_tooltip player_id='1822643' first='Ethan' last='Horton'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1820134' first='A'Darius' last='Catoe'] joined Gallman, Carter and Bowers up front along with tight end Zach Hammond in keeping Neal clean in the pocket and huge running lanes for Kelly and Seegars.

[player_tooltip player_id='1820139' first='Brody' last='Hinson'], [player_tooltip player_id='1820150' first='Eli' last='Meadows'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1820140' first='Gabriel' last='Duncan'] didn't have any fall off when they got into the game either. Zack White contributed to the rushing totals in the second half.

Kicker [player_tooltip player_id='1165169' first='Curt' last='Horton'] was perfect on seven extra points and routinely had his kickoffs sail inside the 10-yard line.

“We felt like if we got off to a fast start, it was going to be a good game for us,” AJ coach Jeremy Smith said. “Hopefully we're building some momentum. Our defense has been playing very well. Everybody is playing because we don't have that many.”

Chesterfield Notes

The Rams (3-4, 0-2) had to play three quarterbacks after starter [player_tooltip player_id='1821336' first='Bryce' last='Adams'] had to leave in the first quarter. [player_tooltip player_id='1817538' first='Mark' last='Moten'] took the bulk of the snaps. Punter Avery Moore threw a pass on a fake, but it came up short. Combined, the quarterback's finished 6-of-16 for 23 yards and two interceptions.

[player_tooltip player_id='1606964' first='Greg' last='Rushing'] carried the ball 17 times but could gain just 24 yards against the swarming defensive effort.
