Edna Karr continued to bolster its résumé and case as Louisiana's top team again in Week 5 with a top-five victory in a high-profile showdown.

The Cougars built a two-score lead by halftime, then took full control early in the third quarter with a goal-line stand and field-length drive en route to a 42-21 defeat of Catholic League rival St. Augustine.

Here's a look at 12 of the notable eye-catchers from the contest, although that's just a tip of the iceberg in a matchup of two of the state's most talented teams.

[player_tooltip player_id='920629' first='John' last='Johnson'] — 6-0, 170 QB — Edna Karr (2026)

The senior quarterback led the Cougars with five total touchdowns — a pair rushing and three passing to three different receivers. Johnson was unfazed by an early interception, any other instances in which St. Augustine seemed to start building some momentum or any other challenging in-game circumstances. He maintained poise throughout, including several third-and-long conversions and a nearly 100-yard march down the field in the third quarter to help particularly tighten the team's grip on the lead.

[player_tooltip player_id='1737078' first='Floyd' last='Jones'] — 5-10, 175 WR — Edna Karr (2026)

Johnson's fellow senior, continuing a great season breaking into a more focal role, was on the receiving end of a few of those timely third-down moments, as well as a focused catch of a deflected pass he managed to adjust to and haul in for a touchdown. He, [player_tooltip player_id='1348420' first='Anthony' last='Thomas'] and Fresno State commit Xavier Owens all found the end zone, and [player_tooltip player_id='1581312' first='Greg' last='Wilfred'] provided multiple big plays and appeared touchdown-bound at one point as well before an injury called the play back.

[player_tooltip player_id='1011625' first='Romeo' last='Brown'] — 6-3, 230 EDGE/DL — Edna Karr (2026)

and [player_tooltip player_id='955469' first='Nigel' last='Marshall'] — 5-11, 265 DL — Edna Karr (2027)

St. Augustine used consistent double teams to ensure LSU-committed Edna Karr defensive tackle [player_tooltip player_id='710991' first='Richard' last='Anderson'] wouldn't completely wreck the game from start to finish. But the elite anchor up front is not alone in the Cougars' wealth of talent in the box, and his teammates took advantage of their opportunities with the Alabama A&M-committed Brown making plays off the edge and getting into the backfield and Marshall complementing Anderson well clogging up the middle — including helping wrap up the big fourth-down stop on the goal line.

[player_tooltip player_id='401932' first='Aiden' last='Hall'] — 6-2, 185 DB — Edna Karr (2026)

The Cougars' defense features future college players flying around all over the field, but the LSU-committed safety consistently stands out. Hall brings a palpable swagger, intensity and physicality to the field. He plays fast, violently and with passion and follows up one big play after another with a pose or dance or jawing that he, his teammates and the crowd feed off. And he helped punctuate all the tone-setting with a goal-line interception in the fourth quarter that effectively put the dagger into the victory.

[player_tooltip player_id='1601790' first='Kevin' last='Martin Jr.'] — 6-0, 190 LB – Edna Karr (2026)

and [player_tooltip player_id='1240838' first='Jamichael' last='Quinn'] — 5-10, 190 LB — Edna Karr (2027)

Speaking of flying around, making hard-hitting plays and setting the tone, a couple of the Cougars' linebackers seemed to be all over the field. Quinn, the junior, was repeatedly in the mix for big stops on the outside. And as much as Martin, the Alcorn State-committed senior, patrolled the middle of the field, he also provided one of the biggest highlights of the night all the way out on the sideline with borderline-bodyslam of a stop.

[player_tooltip player_id='1602024' first='Torrence' last='Sanders'] — 6-1, 180 DB — Edna Karr (2026)

The South Alabama commit was another of the players whose name was a bit of a chorus on the public-address spears as St. Augustine tried to test him deep and he managed to come away with a few deflections down the field. The Cougars' secondary is so loaded with talent from its FBS-bound senior quartet to their already-emerging younger teammates that guys can get overlooked or under-appreciated from the outside, but "Toe" has been a great piece of the defense the past couple years.

[player_tooltip player_id='1618856' first='Darren' last='Coates Jr.'] — 6-0, 205 EDGE/LB — St Augustine (2028)

and Dylan Davis — 5-11, 290 DL — St. Augustine (2027)

The strong performance by Johnson was all the more impressive when considering some standout performances from St. Augustine front seven. Davis, the junior defensive tackle, and Coates, the sophomore edge rusher, were particularly active with a few plays each at or behind the line of scrimmage to help at least slow down the Cougars' high-powered attack at times — even if only briefly.

[player_tooltip player_id='1601952' first='Syre' last='Gilmore'] — 5-9, 175 DB — St. Augustine (2026)

Another major defensive eye-catcher for the Purple Knights, the senior safety snatched an interception early in the second quarter, reading an under-pressure throw to the sideline from a mile away, making a great break on the ball for the leaping catch and the short return to the end zone for his team's first score.

Christopher Dupuy — 6-2, 210 TE — St. Augustine (2027)

The duo of [player_tooltip player_id='1323402' first='Miguel' last='Whitley'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1356127' first='Ray'Quan' last='Williams'] rightfully garner a ton of ink on Prep Redzone Louisiana and other media outlets, and [player_tooltip player_id='1356128' first='Verchaun' last='Simms'] Jr. and Derrick Bennett were among other junior receivers who once again joined them in big plays during the course of the latest game. But the emergence of another 2027 prospect at tight end, including a second-half touchdown for the Purple Knights, is notable for senior quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='1348424' first='Vashaun' last='Coulon'] and the offense — particularly as a big target in the red zone.
