<p><strong>Teams of the Week</strong>: <strong>Hobbs</strong> (6A), <strong>Highland</strong> (5A), <strong>Portales</strong> (4A), <strong>Hatch Valley</strong> (3A), <strong>McCurdy</strong> (2A).</p>

<p>Hobbs (4-2) picked up their first District 6A-3 win of the season with a 47-26 victory over Alamogordo, overcoming a combined 232 rushing yards by Tigers QB <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1600835' first='Nathanael' last='Best']</strong> and RB [player_tooltip player_id='1605059' first='Bryson' last='Bloom']. Hobbs jumped out to a 27-13 halftime lead by scoring 3 TD in the second quarter. Eagles RB <strong>Demarcus Hill</strong> opened the scoring with a 16-yard touchdown run. Hill would go on to score 4 TD in the first half and finished with 5 for the night. Hobbs scored the first two TD of the third quarter to take a 41-13 lead. After Alamogordo cut the deficit to 41-16, Hobbs sealed the win Hobbs sealed the win with a TD pass from QB <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1605057' first='Junior' last='Medrano']</strong> to WR <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1599800' first='Justice' last='French']</strong>. </p>

<p><strong>Highland</strong> (4-2, 2-1) rushed for 501 yards in an impressive display of offensive firepower as the Hornets spoiled Valley's Homecoming with a 48-20 victory at Milne Stadium. Highland raced (literally) to a 42-7 halftime lead and cruised home from there. Senior <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1137423' first='Jose' last='Tapia']</strong> finished with 351 yards and 4 TD on a workhorse 36 carries (!) to propel the Hornets to the District 5A-1 win. Tapia had over 280 yards rushing in the first half alone. Highland ran the ball 55 times and attempted just 3 passes. They averaged over 9 yards per carry. </p>

<p><strong>Portales </strong>won its first game of the season with an emphatic 51-14 road victory over Valencia. Freshman QB <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1581314' first='Kingston' last='Lee']</strong> led the Rams to the impressive win. Portales converted a pair of early Valencia turnovers into touchdowns, one of them on a scoop-and-score fumble recovery, and went on to the win. </p>

<p>McCurdy QB <strong>Julian Nino</strong> rushed for 204 yards and 3 TD on just 12 carries (17.0 yards per attempt) and made 6 tackles on defense to lead the Bobcats to a 30-18 victory over Newcomb, spoiling the Skyhawks' Homecoming. RB <strong>JJ Vigil </strong>added 103 rushing yards and 1 TD on 13 carries. Nino and Vigil both had interceptions for McCurdy. </p>

<p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1267035' first='Tru' last='Camejo']</strong> rushed for 113 yards on 13 carries + 3 passes defended on defense to lead Ruidoso (3-3, 2-0) to a close win at Hot Springs. The Warriors rallied from a 21-7 halftime deficit, outscoring Hot Springs, 18-0 in the 2<sup>nd</sup> half. The comeback began with <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1613409' first='Mason' last='Fikany']</strong>'s 1-yard TD run midway through the 3<sup>rd</sup> quarter. RB <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='854298' first='Ashdyn' last='Urban']</strong> scored on a 1-yard run with about 7 minutes left for the game-winning TD. Hot Springs drove inside the red zone in the final minutes but was stopped on fourth down. Fikany had 153 all-purpose yards for the Warriors. Ruidoso amassed 238 rushing yards and 4 TD on 37 carries. </p>

<p><strong>Sophomore of the Week</strong>: <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1686972' first='Chris' last='Lopez'], La Cueva</strong>. The speedy Lopez scored the first THREE touchdowns of his varsity career Friday night as La Cueva (3-2) won its third game in a row after an 0-2 start with a convincing 49-0 victory over West Mesa. Lopez caught a 13-yard TD pass from QB [player_tooltip player_id='1183085' first='Monty' last='Melendez'] on La Cueva's first possession of the game and later a 14-yard TD in the 2<sup>nd</sup> quarter. The Bears also scored on a blocked punt. La Cueva built a 35-0 halftime lead and the entire 2<sup>nd</sup> half was played with a running clock. La Cueva's next two games are against rival Eldorado and Los Lunas. </p>

<p><strong>Freshman of the Week</strong>: <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1720592' first='Julian' last='Fernandez']</strong>, <strong>Grants</strong>. Fernandez rushed for 90 yards on 7 carries and 2 TD in the Pirates lopsided win over Aztec. Fernandez is already in his his second season with the Grants varsity as he saw action as an 8th-grader in 2024. </p>

<p><strong>Who's Still Unbeaten</strong>: Three teams are 6-0 heading into Week 7 – Las Cruces, Los Alamos and St. Michael's. One team is 5-0: Santa Rosa. Thursday night at Milne Stadium, RB <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1604744' first='Jordan' last='Herrera']</strong> rushed for 272 yards and 4 TD to lead Los Alamos to a 62-12 mercy rule win over Del Norte. With four games remaining, Herrera has eclipsed 1,000 rushing yards and with the Hilltoppers likely to earn a spot in the 5A playoffs, he could reach 2,000 yards before the season is over. Los Alamos struck quickly when <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1787566' first='Carlo' last='Baca']</strong> returned the opening kickoff 85 yards for a touchdown. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1606095' first='Ben' last='Brousseau']</strong> scored 2 TD for Los Alamos in the 1st quarter. <strong>Keandre Wyatt</strong> rushed for 11 1total yards on 10 carries for Del Norte. </p>

<p><strong>Class 6A Roundup</strong>: Las Cruces QB <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='853029' first='Gunnar' last='Guardiola']</strong> continued to shine for the Bulldawgs as he was a perfect 13-of-13 for 259 yards passing and 5 TD to lead Las Cruces to a 55-0 mercy-rule win over Organ Mountain in a District 6A-3 contest at Field of Dreams. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1142363' first='Francisco' last='Winnikoff']</strong> had 2 receptions for 125 yards. DT <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1600974' first='Carlos' last='Gamboa'] </strong>caught a TD pass from Guardiola in the third quarter. Defensively, Organ Mountain stacked the box to contain the Bulldawgs running game but that ploy opened up the passing lanes and Guardiola took full advantage. . .Eldorado amassed 562 yards in total offense to beat Santa Fe in a high-scoring District 5A-2 contest at Ivan Head Stadium. Dynamic WR/KR <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1155116' first='Jahari' last='Morehead']</strong> scored 5 TD (2 rushing, 3 receiving) and totaled 254 yards for the Eagles. Eldorado trailed, 10-0, early before Morehead raced 75 yards on a sweep to get the Eagles on the board. Morehead's 51-yard TD reception gave Eldorado a 17-10 lead with 9 minutes left in the 2Q. After a Pick-6 by Santa Fe, Morehead's 18-yard TD run late in the second quarter tied the score, 25-25, at halftime. . .Piedra Vista traveled to Canyon (TX) for a cross-border battle and suffered a 49-13 loss. The Panthers were outscored, 35-6, in the second half. .Carlsbad evened its record at 3-3 with a 41-16 victory over Clovis on Homecoming. . .Atrisco Heritage QB <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1633802' first='Gianluca' last='Ramirez']</strong> threw for 173 yards and 2 TD but it wasn't enough as the Jaguars fell to Sandia, 37-13. Sandia sophomore [player_tooltip player_id='1613284' first='George' last='Smith'] caught 2 TD passes and ran for 1 TD for the Matadors, who won their second straight game following an 0-4 start.</p>

<p><strong>Class 5A Roundup</strong>: Artesia QB <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1672571' first='Derrick' last='Warren']</strong> completed 20-of-31 passes for 241 yards and 4 TD and RB <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1139144' first='Bryce' last='Parra']</strong> rushed for 150 yards on a workhorse 22 carries as the Bulldogs jumped out to a 21-0 lead after the first quarter and cruised to a District 5A-2 victory over Lovington at the Bulldog Bowl. Parra's 7-yard run, <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1266497' first='Tootie' last='McNeil']</strong>'s second Pick-6 in two weeks and <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1750200' first='Jack' last='Byers']</strong>' 16-yard YD reception created the big lead after the 1<sup>st</sup> quarter. Artesia scored the first two TDs of the third quarter to take a 35-8 lead. . .Roswell made the long trip to Santa Teresa and mercy-ruled the Desert Warriors, 54-0. The big news to come from this game was the season-ending injury suffered by Santa Teresa QB <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1137846' first='Nicholas' last='Vierra']</strong>. . .Mayfield (2-4) scored 28 points in the second quarter to take a 35-14 halftime lead and the Trojans went on to a 55-35 road victory at winless Deming. Mayfield led, 7-0, after the first quarter but quickly increased the lead to 21-0 in the first three minutes of the second quarter on a punt return for a TD and – following a Deming fumble on the ensuing kickoff – an 8-yard rushing TD by <strong>Marcus Castillo</strong>. Minutes later, Mayfield intercepted a Deming pass, which led directly to <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1599566' first='Xavier' last='Ochoa']</strong>'s 7-yard TD run for a 28-0 lead just past the midway point of the second quarter. . .The Capital defense rose up with 11.0 TFL, 4.0 sacks, 16.0 QB hurries and 3 forced fumbles in the Jaguars' 33-0 victory over Rio Grande.</p>

<p><strong>Class 4A Roundup</strong>: Unbeaten St. Pius X (4-0) didn't have injured QB <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1154948' first='Isaiah' last='Carpenter']</strong> available, so they did the next best thing and handed the ball off to FBS caliber RB <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1154954' first='Hershul' last='Olloway']</strong>, who rushed for 3 TD in the first quarter alone and led the Sartans to a key 34-14 road victory over Silver. The Colts had played solid defense all season long but had few answers for Olloway, who had over 200 yards rushing and scored 4 TD. Carpenter suffered a shoulder injury in St. Pius X's recent win over Organ Mountain. . .Bloomfield (5-1, 3-0) scored 51 unanswered points, including 38 in a high-scoring second quarter, to cruise past Taos, 65-13, in a District 4A-1 contest. Bloomfield led, 14-13, late in the 1<sup>st</sup> quarter when RB <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='853022' first='Peyton' last='Duncan']</strong> started the 51-point surge with a 34-yard rushing TD. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1599958' first='Cole' last='Gosnell']</strong> scored on a 17-yard run to make it 27-13 midway through the 2<sup>nd</sup> quarter. The Bobcats seized control of the game over the final 6 minutes of the second quarter, scoring a staggering 32 points during that stretch for a 59-13 halftime lead. The final TD of the half came on <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1599979' first='Deasyl' last='Priddy']</strong>'s 65-yard punt return. Bloomfield QB <strong>Manual Chavarria</strong> threw for 2 TD and ran for 3 touchdowns. . .Chaparral (5-1) won its fifth straight game with a 27-16 home victory over Manzano. The Lobos scored in each of the first two quarters to take a 14-0 halftime lead. The Monarchs got on the board when <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1613352' first='Broden' last='Price']</strong> raced 45 yards for a TD early in the 3<sup>rd</sup> quarter. But Chaparral responded with a TD drive to expand the lead to 21-8 midway through the 3<sup>rd</sup> quarter. When Manzano scored early in the 4<sup>th</sup> quarter, the Lobos again responded with a TD drive to make it 27-16. The Lobos defense sealed the win by stopping Manzano on downs with about 3 minutes left. . .Helped by a Goon Squad defense that came up with two interceptions and a fourth down stop, Bernalillo (4-1) scored 27 points in the second quarter on the way to a convincing 41-12 victory over Espanola Valley at BHS. QB <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='853757' first='Ulisses' last='Castro']</strong> rushed for 2 TD and threw a 14-yard TD pass to a leaping <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1599893' first='Joseph' last='Duran']</strong> in the second quarter alone. Castro added a 21-yard rushing TD in the 3<sup>rd</sup> quarter to expand the lead to 34-0. . .The Grants (5-1) defense recorded 4.0 TFL, 6 QB hurries and 3 sacks in a 51-0 mercy-rule victory over Aztec. DE <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='851894' first='Gary' last='Chavez']</strong> had 3 QB hurries. Freshman <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1720592' first='Julian' last='Fernandez']</strong> and senior <strong>Joe Clawson</strong> each scored a pair of rushing touchdowns for the Pirates.</p>

<p><strong>Class 3A Roundup: </strong>St. Michael's won its 26<sup>th</sup> straight game Saturday as the Horsemen routed former district rival Raton, 54-0, in Santa Fe. St. Michael's led, 28-0, after the 1<sup>st</sup> quarter and finished off the overwhelmed Tigers late in the 3rd quarter on QB <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1600843' first='Kamal' last='Stith']</strong>'s 58-yard TD run. RB <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='853063' first='Isaiah' last='Dominguez']</strong> rushed for 86 yards and scored 2 TD for the unbeaten Horsemen (6-0). <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1155019' first='Ryan' last='Hunt']</strong> caught a 24-yard TD pass from Stith in the second quarter. Stith also threw a 27-yard TD pass to WR <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1826301' first='Victor' last='Corral']</strong>. St. Michael's led, 41-0, at halftime. Raton played without leading rusher [player_tooltip player_id='1604784' first='Cael' last='Walton']. . .<strong>Alex Orozco</strong> returned the opening kickoff 80 yards for a TD and NMMI went on to blank Socorro, 41-0. <strong>Konstantino Scopelitis</strong> had a 20-yard rushing TD to give NMMI a 14-0 lead after the 1<sup>st</sup> quarter. NMMI added 3 more touchdowns in the second quarter for a 35-0 halftime lead. . .<strong>David Dumas</strong> rushed for 114 yards and 2 TD on 10 carries as Hatch Valley beat Cobre, 45-12. Six different players scored TDs for the Bears. . .Tohatchi crushed Crownpoint, 54-6. . .Shiprock fell to cross-border rival Montezuma-Cortez, 57-6. . .Wingate trounced Zuni, 48-0. . .Thoreau beat Gallup, 31-6. . .Hope Christian (5-1) mercy-ruled Santa Fe Indian, 50-0, Saturday in the state capitol. The Huskies now prepare for a Week 7 showdown against St. Michael's on Saturday at Wilson Stadium. . .Six-foot-5 Robertson QB <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1155256' first='Nathan' last='Gonzales']</strong> completed 13-of-19 passes for 190 yards and 1 TD as Robertson (5-1) made the long trip to Tularosa and rode home with a 28-10 victory over the Wildcats. Cardinals junior WR <strong>Michael Marr</strong> had 4 receptions for 117 yards. RB <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1606130' first='Francisco' last='Lopez']</strong> had 2 rushing TD. . .Navajo Prep rallied from a 14-12 halftime deficit by outscoring Laguna Acoma, 16-0, in the second half to post a 28-14 win. Defensively, <strong>Levaughn Jim</strong> had eight tackles and a fumble recovery, while <strong>JJ Franklin</strong> had 6.5 tackles, one sack and a forced fumble. </p>
