The Lowcountry as a whole won't be writing its history books based on this week's games.

It's going to be a relatively light Friday by all accounts, as many teams are using Week 5 for off weeks and others are heading out of the zone. That's just how it goes this time of year. But don't tell any of these eight teams playing games between Charleston and the Hilton Head area this Friday won't be important.

Notable: These two teams are in very different ends of the contender spectrum in their respective classes. But how Oceanside responds to its huge win over Class 5A powerhouse Dutch Fork makes this one extremely interesting. Specifically, we want to see exactly how the Landsharks run the football to start setting this team up for region play and then the playoffs. After [player_tooltip player_id='1664501' first='James' last='O'Connor'] went down, senior [player_tooltip player_id='1821532' first='Zakhi' last='Muncey'] stepped up in a big way. He made the transition from receiver and has run for 488 yards and three touchdowns. On top of that, junior [player_tooltip player_id='1824235' first='Michael' last='Strickler'] and Johnson take turns in the team's wildcat formations. Strickler had five touchdowns in his first 11 carries. We all know what Manavian is capable of; he reminded anyone who forgot last week against Dutch Fork. But at some point Oceanside will need to know it can run the ball when it wants, and more importantly, needs to.

Notable: In a game that was lost due to last year's late-September storms, Georgetown is much more prepared to make a game of this than it was 12 months ago. Deas, Burroughs, McNeil and Washington have made it much more difficult for opponents to just pound the ball between the tackles and make it look easy. The Bulldogs are 0-4, but three of those games could have easily gone the other way. Much of that has to do with Parker, who has chewed up a ton of yards while running the offense in his own way. On the flip side, we know May River is still going to rely on what it does best, and that's run the ball. Mitchell, Johnson, Tran and Cooper have accounted for just shy of 1,400 yards rushing this year already, and they're collectively averaging six yards per carry. Which every line of scrimmage controls the game will also control the outcome.

Players to watch: WK - QB Jhais McKiever WR/DB [player_tooltip player_id='1025815' first='Caleb' last='Geronomi'] DB [player_tooltip player_id='1824733' first='James' last='Smith'] LB [player_tooltip player_id='1592362' first='Josue' last='Esiki'] RB [player_tooltip player_id='1036740' first='Tiyon' last='Fanning'] FD - LB [player_tooltip player_id='1271486' first='Savon' last='Garrett'] DB Jeff Jefferson LB [player_tooltip player_id='1590515' first='Josiah' last='Singleton'] QB [player_tooltip player_id='1818375' first='Thomas' last='Adamsky'] RB [player_tooltip player_id='485450' first='Mykell' last='Warthen']

Notable: The Timberwolves will be heading back to the Charleston area after taking care of Cane Bay a week ago. And while White Knoll should be considered a heavy favorite, the trick for Fort D will be to get some offense going. That won't be easy against a stout defense. Adamsky will need to get comfortable in a hurry after some back-and-forth games early in the year. Getting Warthen the ball in the game to keep White Knoll's edge rushers honest will also be key, as Smith, Geronomi, Esiki and the rest of the defense are proving to be a dangerous bunch. They led a charge that has allowed just 12 points per game through four weeks of games. More importantly, they've done so against four very different looking offenses. The Patriots' biggest hope is that another player or two that White Knoll hasn't scouted can impact the game by helping Fort D get some first downs before this offense is playing from a deficit.

BLUFFTON-HILTON HEAD

Last year: Hilton Head 42-7

Players to watch: B - QB [player_tooltip player_id='1394988' first='Aedan' last='McCarthy'] WR [player_tooltip player_id='402486' first='Carnell' last='Warren'] WR [player_tooltip player_id='1036774' first='Amare' last='Patterson'] LB [player_tooltip player_id='1664526' first='Malcolm' last='Gordon'] DL [player_tooltip player_id='1639730' first='Chris' last='Doyle'] HH - QB Derrick Raniszewki RB/LB [player_tooltip player_id='1603740' first='Thaddeus' last='Czarnecki'] WR/DB [player_tooltip player_id='1820333' first='Jeremiah' last='Walters'] LB [player_tooltip player_id='1172368' first='Andrew' last='Massey'] LB/RB [player_tooltip player_id='1422535' first='Jayvin' last='Risher']

Notable: The Bobcats and Seahawks couldn't have much different offensive styles. Bluftton has relished Patterson's time at the school after transferring in from Beaufort. The junior has already hauled in 28 catches for 423 yards and six touchdowns What's done is taken pressure off Warren (33, 600, six), the team's top target each of the last two seasons. As it stands, both of them and McCarthy are in line for their career best production, and it doesn't even seem like it'll be all that close. Not to be lost in the shuffle in the team's third receiver. [player_tooltip player_id='1820466' first='Roman' last='Benjamin'] has already put up 31 catches of his own for 375 yards and four scores. How does Hilton Head combat that? The Seahawks are going to attempt to lock down the Bobcats' offense by keeping it off the field. Czarnecki and Risher might each get 15 offensive touches and Raniszewski might only take a handful of big shots. The contrasting styles will make the back-and-forth between these two telling for the rest of the way.
