The calendar has flipped to May so it's time to really start breaking down what we can expect for the 2026 football season.

We've already seen a lot of transfers, and more are sure to come this summer. But what we can do is begin analyzing who will be the MVP for every team in the SCHSL as it stands today. This is just a guess as we don't know yet who might emerge over the summer.

Here are our best assumptions for Region IV-3A.

AIRPORT EAGLES

[player_tooltip player_id='1819887' first='Justin' last='Conyers'] LB, 2027

The Eagles suffered through a winless season last year but there's building blocks in place to make sure that doesn't happen again. The defense is going to be a key to the Airport turnaround and Conyers is a solid place to begin. He's a solid run stopper but he also can get after the passer when needed. Conyers is a solid 6-foot, 200 pounds and he flies around the field making plays all over the place. It's going to be key for Conyers to be successful for the Eagles to begin a turnaround.

BROOKLAND-CAYCE BEARCATS

[player_tooltip player_id='1816457' first='Andrew' last='Frick'] QB, 2028

All you need to do is speak to Bearcats QB coach GA Mangus (former QB coach at South Carolina) for a few minutes to understand how excited he is about the future for Frick. As a sophomore, the B-C signal caller threw for 2,576 yards and 18 touchdowns and he's going to have plenty of weapons around him to improve on those numbers. He's tall (6-foot-3) and is fearless in the pocket. He's got a strong arm and good poise and that should benefit the Bearcats greatly.

CAMDEN BULLDOGS

[player_tooltip player_id='1354590' first='Greyson' last='Rimpf'] QB, 2027

You have to go with the Bulldogs Offensive MVP last season as the overall MVP heading into 2026. Rimpf (pictured above) is poised to have a huge senior season with just over a year of starting experience under his belt. He's already amassed 14 varsity victories and thrown for over 3,000 career yards with 34 career touchdown passes. He might come close to matching those numbers in this season alone. If he falters, the coaching staff will have to scramble to make alternate plans.

GILBERT INDIANS

[player_tooltip player_id='1664620' first='Gavin' last='Elliott'] DB, 2027

Elliott is a two-year starter and a captain of the team. Gilbert coach Ozzie Exume characterized Elliott as the heartbeat of the team that combines speed, high football IQ and physicality to be a complete team player. He's 6-foot, 190 pounds and plays with high intensity and a high motor. He had 95 tackles a season ago with two interceptions and those numbers could easily increase this season. He's going to need a huge season if the Indians want to improve on the six wins from a season ago.

LOWER RICHLAND DIAMONDS

[player_tooltip player_id='1817639' first='Raymond' last='McLaughlin'] QB, 2028

If nothing else. McLaughlin is going to get the “Wow” whenever he walks onto the field. The rising junior is already 6-foot-6, 230 pounds with an arm to match his stature. He can make all the throws from short to intermediate to deep throws with precision and accuracy. He gained valuable experience last season even though he was raw. He showed his potential with a four-touchdown effort against Hartsville. More days like that are in his future and his development is going to be fun to watch.

SWANSEA TIGERS

[player_tooltip player_id='1816291' first='Trace' last='Selfridge'] ATH, 2027

It's safe to say that Selfridge might have to get his bus license before the season is over because he's likely to do a little bit of everything else for the Tigers. Running back – check. Receiver – check. Defensive back – check. Special Teams – check. Obviously, he's very versatile and while it's going to be difficult to lock him into one role, he's going to make an impact wherever he lines up. He's 6-foot-1, 175 pounds and packs a wallop regardless of what position he's playing.

The calendar has flipped to May so it's time to really start breaking down what we can expect for the 2026 football season.
