Brick Wall Breakouts: Defenders Owning Week 3

Tate has been having himself a year, and it continued against the 20th ranked team nationally. He had 10 total tackles, (2 solo, 8 assisted), 2 INT, and 1 pick 6. He has very good athletic ability due to very good acceleration, speed, lateral quickness, and good jumping. Matthews has very good read and reaction speed and it showed on the pick 6. He read the RPO bubble, used his very good block shedding to win against the WR, picked the ball, and took it to the house. On another play, he got another interception off a tipped ball. Matthews is a smart player, and is patient on read options and swing passes. Very good in pass coverage and demonstrates his anticipation for the ball. Very good blitzer. With his take off speed and good bull rush. Very good strength and very good pursuit. He's also a sure-fire tackler. Matthews is the full linebacking package, and deserves to be recruited way more than he currently is.     Dodge had himself a massive interception game that propelled him to the top of CO's INT leaders. He measures in at 6'0 150 pounds. Against La Junta, he had 3 INTs, with 1 tackle. He has good athletic ability due to very good jumping, acceleration, good speed, and change of direction. Good jamming the wide out at the line of scrimmage. He stays physical throughout the route, and stride for stride with the receiver. Dodge has very good ball tracking skills, and catching. He extends his arms and uses his suction hands to come down with the catch. Dodge has shown to be a defensive weapon, and offenses need to keep an eye on him throughout the season.     The 6'4 210-pound defensive end had himself a day against Thornton. The Northglenn edge rusher had 9 total tackles, 5 TFL, and 5 sacks. He has good athletic ability due to very good acceleration, lateral quickness, good speed, and jumping. Martin utilizes his quick hand speed at the line of scrimmage to gain the upper hand on the OL. Good hand placement and very good hand strength. Martin has a good bend around the edge and goes between a bull rush and a spin move. Keeps the tackle on his toes. Very good block shedding. Good tackling, and relentless pursuit. He played through the whistle, and consistently helped teammates finish up tackles. I'm very excited to see Martin continue this level of play throughout the season.     Kaveney had a season high game with 10 total tackles (all solo!), 1 TFL, and 1 sack. Kaveney was all over the field this past game and it showed his good range. He has good athletic ability due to very good acceleration, speed, good change of direction, and jumping. Kaveney demonstrates a quick twitch and explosiveness when blitzing. Very good take off speed. He brings that same fire to pass coverage as well. He has the athletic ability to cover tight ends out in space and go stride for stride with them. Good tackler. He wraps up the ball carrier and rips them down to the ground. I'm very excited to see how Kaveney continues playing throughout the season.     Basham goes between cornerback and safety, and his versatility helps bring the Chaparral defense to another level. Throughout the season, the 6'1 DB has 3 INTs including a pick 6. He has good athletic ability due to very good speed, lateral quickness/COD, good jumping, and acceleration. Presses WRs at the line of scrimmage to jam them up. Good back pedal. Fluid hips. In man coverage, he locks up the WR and stays stride for stride with them. Good closing quickness. Very good ball tracking skills. He uses that timing to swat the ball away for pick the ball off. He'll extend his entire body and put it on the line to get the INT. Basham is a good tackler and has good strength as well. Keep an eye on him, because this junior has caught my eye.
