It was another strong week of high school football in the state of Tennessee as I was in Nashville to watch a district showdown between Baylor and CPA. After catching the action, here's my full game recap as well as my top performers.

Top Performers

In the first place spot on my list is [player_tooltip player_id='1210671' first='David' last='Gabriel-Georges'], a running back at the Baylor School. Gabriel-Georges was unstoppable on the ground, blasting into the endzone for three touchdowns on the night. What impresses me the most about Gabriel-Georges is his strong footwork, ability to juke out the defense and his overall athleticism. At one point, Gabriel-Georges even hurdled a defender on his way to the house.

I was additionally impressed with [player_tooltip player_id='222957' first='Briggs' last='Cherry'], a quarterback at the Baylor School. Cherry was extremely impressive at the helm of the Red Raiders' offense, proving his ability to scan the backfield and easily connect with his receivers anywhere on the field. Cherry also caught my attention with his arm strength and pin-point accuracy, throwing for multiple touchdowns on the evening.

Claiming the number three spot on my list is [player_tooltip player_id='958217' first='Jamyan' last='Theodore'], a defensive back at the Baylor School. Theodore was unstoppable on both sides of the ball, proving he can both haul in the challenging touchdown pass and shut down receivers on the other side of the ball. What makes Theodore so explosive is his deceiving speed and strong footwork, proving he can pull ahead of receivers offensively and swat the ball to the ground on the defensive end.

Another skilled prospect that made a good impression was [player_tooltip player_id='824736' first='Owen' last='Cabell'], a wide receiver at Christ Presbyterian Academy. Cabell came in clutch in the first quarter, hauling in a challenging touchdown pass despite being guarded by a Tennessee commit in the backfield. Cabell's durability was on full display, fighting his way into the endzone after the catch.

Coming in at number five on my list is [player_tooltip player_id='328897' first='Kolby' last='Barrett'], a defensive back/linebacker at the Baylor School. Barrett made his presence known defensively in the first half, reading CPA's offense like a book as he recorded the clutch pick-six. Barrett's ability to pick up speed after the interception made a huge difference as he used his speed to beat the defense from along the edge and put another six on the scoreboard for the Red Raiders.

Also worth mentioning is [player_tooltip player_id='1300097' first='Kaiden' last='Dewey'], an athlete at the Baylor School. Dewey caught my attention in the second half, closing out the game for the Red Raiders with a touchdown at the bottom of the third quarter. Dewey's size and electric speed off the snap makes him hard to stop after the catch as he marched past CPA's defense and took it all the way to the house for the touchdown.

Game Recap

The Red Raiders found the scoreboard on their opening drive as a quick handoff from [player_tooltip player_id='222957' first='Briggs' last='Cherry'] to [player_tooltip player_id='1210671' first='David' last='Gabriel-Georges'] resulted in an early 7-0 lead for Baylor with 7:46 remaining in the first quarter. The Red Raiders would quickly extend their lead as Gabriel-Georges would run in another touchdown to give Baylor the 14-0 advantage over the Lions. CPA responded with less than a minute remaining in the first quarter as Jack VanOrman connected with [player_tooltip player_id='824736' first='Owen' last='Cabell'] for the touchdown. The Lions trailed the Red Raiders 14-7. Baylor responded at the top of the second half as Cherry connected with [player_tooltip player_id='958217' first='Jamyan' last='Theodore'] for the deep touchdown pass. The Red Raiders pushed their lead up to 21-7. Gabriel-Georges would score again with less than four remaining in the first half, slipping past the defense to put up his third touchdown of the night. Baylor would also score a defensive touchdown before the end of the first half as [player_tooltip player_id='328897' first='Kolby' last='Barrett'] took the interception all the way to the house for the pick-six. Baylor held a 35-7 lead over CPA at halftime. The Red Raiders would close out the game in the second quarter as [player_tooltip player_id='1300097' first='Kaiden' last='Dewey'] would escape the defense and punch into the endzone for the score. Baylor went on to defeat CPA 48-7.
