With most of the Charleston-area games postponed and or cancelled outright, and with several more squads waiting until Week 1 to kick off their seasons, the full-fledged might of the teams in the 843 was slightly diminished during the first Friday of games.

Slightly.

We still saw some performances that will set the tone for the next few weeks of the regular season. While most of these games led to wins, some are worthy enough to qualify for this space even in defeat.

Regardless, every one of these players was more than worthy of a Week 0 Game Ball in the GSPD and Lowcountry.

[player_tooltip player_id='1422629' first='Roderick' last='Purcha'] RB and [player_tooltip player_id='797160' first='Moon' last='Gerald'] QB, Loris

In what was essentially a warm-up game against an inferior Class A opponent, Purcha and Gerald didn't waste any time getting their 2025 seasons started on the right foot. Purcha used his three carries to put up 76 yards and two touchdowns. He opened the game against Green Sea Floyds with a 44-yard scamper into the end zone less than 100 seconds after kickoff. He then wrapped up the points with a 32-yard run near the end of the second quarter. Gerald threw only five passes, but his three completions to [player_tooltip player_id='1656668' first='Khalid' last='Sherman'] [player_tooltip player_id='1592447' first='Jacobien' last='Lewis'] and Terrance Hardee went for 28-yard, 40-yard and 18-yard touchdowns.

[player_tooltip player_id='1820333' first='Jeremiah' last='Walters'] WR, and [player_tooltip player_id='1603740' first='Thaddeus' last='Czarnecki'] LB/RB, Hilton Head

As a sophomore, Walters had 305 yards worth of receptions for four touchdowns. In Friday's lopsided win over Stall, he nearly reached the halfway point of both figures. He and quarterback Derrick Raniszewki connected five times for 136 yards and two scores. Czarnecki, who now takes over the primary tailback spot, finished with 104 rushing yards and a touchdown and two receptions for 31 yards on offense and seven tackles, three tackles for loss and a sack defensively.

[player_tooltip player_id='1664624' first='Ja'Mere' last='Ross'] ATH, Johnsonville

In a 34-20 win at Chesterfield, Ross was all about the No. 47. He scored a 47-yard run and then a 47-yard reception on back-to-back series for the Flashes. It was a nice start for a player who had 500 rushing yards as a sophomore and factors to be in an even bigger role in Johnsonville's run game.

[player_tooltip player_id='1595007' first='Khayel' last='Sam Fong-Talia'] QB, and [player_tooltip player_id='1165163' first='Zamaurious' last='Robertson'] WR, Dillon

While the end result was a three-point loss to Scotland (N.C.), the Wildcats had to be pleased with the first game action between their freshman quarterback and North Carolina commit senior receiver. Fong-Talia (pictured) finished his high school debut 15-of-22 for 187 yards and two touchdowns. Ten of those completions when to Robertson, who ended the game with 167 yards and two touchdowns. His haul for the evening included a 61-yard touchdown and another from 48 yards.

[player_tooltip player_id='473015' first='Tyleek' last='Dukes'] RB/DB, Kingstree

Dukes kicked off his senior season by doing much of what he has on both sides of the ball for the last three seasons. He flashed some of his defensive ability with a pick six in the 24-23 win against Kingstree. He also had 11 carries for 77 yards and a touchdown on the ground and hauled in three passes for another 36 yards. Dukes' total defensive numbers weren't immediately available, but his role for Year 4 seems pretty clear. Do a bit of everything.

[player_tooltip player_id='1734397' first='Trenton' last='Parker'] ATH, Georgetown

In the narrow loss to Kingstree, Parker put up an individual performance he'll likely never forget. The senior tailback and receiver had 31 carries for 292 yards and a pair of touchdowns. He also caught two passes for 37 yards and returned a kick for 24 yards. Those 353 all-purposes yards were more than the Bulldogs have put up total in more than half of their games the last five seasons.

Zavion Sims [player_tooltip player_id='1172365' first='Crawford' last='Poole'] [player_tooltip player_id='1271257' first='Nick' last='Gordon'] [player_tooltip player_id='1321038' first='Justyn' last='Joint'] and [player_tooltip player_id='781859' first='Kadin' last='Thomas'] Cheraw

In what was essentially little more than a tune-up of a season opener against McBee, a bunch of the Braves' stars took turns doing their thing. Sims had four tackles, three tackles for loss nd a sack. Poole, playing less than two full quarters, had three tackles, a sack and a forced fumble. Gordon returned a punt for a touchdown while adding a receiving score. Joint went over 100 yards on the ground to go along with two touchdowns. And Thomas threw for four touchdowns in the 48-7 victory.

[player_tooltip player_id='1820453' first='Elijah' last='Creighton'] DL, Bluffton

Opponents have known about fellow lineman [player_tooltip player_id='1639730' first='Chris' last='Doyle'] for some time. Creighton let everyone know the trenches will be even more stout this fall, too. In the 49-0 win against Whale Branch, Creighton had seven total tackles, a tackle for loss, a sack and a forced fumble. Combine that with Doyle (nine tackles, two TFL, sack) and all of a sudden it's looking like the Bobcats' defense has more pieces than previously known about.

[player_tooltip player_id='1267229' first='Antonio' last='Brown'] LB/RB, Myrtle Beach

Brown continued right where he left off from his junior season. The Seahawks' starting middle linebacker finished off the win over Lake with with seven tackles (four solo) and two tackles for loss. Myrtle Beach's run game also got a boost from him. In six carries out of the heavy-set Rhino package where he takes direct snaps, he put up 54 yards and three touchdowns. That gives him 20 rushing touchdowns in his last 11 varsity games dating back to the start of last season.
