The 2025 high school football season is less than two weeks away — during which time Prep Redzone Louisiana is in the process of releasing rankings updates for the 2026, 2027 and 2028 recruiting classes and the first watch list for the incoming 2029 class.

A new 100-man list for the 2028 cycle hits the site this week. And, along with the update, we will count down the top 30 prospects in greater detail, including some familiar faces but also a several new additions as more players continue to emerge.

Here's a look at the top 10, which notably includes six highly ranking debuts.

No. 10 — [player_tooltip player_id='409932' first='Hayden' last='Monroe'] — 6-4, 220 EDGE/TE — Carencro

One of the prospects who holds down a top-10 position as the rankings list doubled in size with so many promising young athletes continuing to emerge, the Bears' multisport standout has enjoyed an offseason full of development. Monroe has transitioned from primarily a pass-catcher to start high school to now a greater focus on defense and heads into sophomore season about 40 pounds stronger. In addition to bulking up his long, athletic frame, he has spent the summer working on his technical development on that side of the ball and is expected to play a notable role for the Carencro unit out of the gate this fall.

No. 9 — [player_tooltip player_id='1397984' first='Zion' last='Batiste'] — 6-2, 150 WR — Lafayette Renaissance Charter

As has been mentioned in prior segments of the countdown, Louisiana's 2028 class is becoming increasingly loaded with major talent at the wide receiver position. And Batiste is one of the notable new debuts to that growing storyline after productive offseason on the 7-on-7 circuit and recruiting trail. The Tigers' weapon is a long, lean athlete with a knack for making plays in the air and over defenders, but has also shown some flashes of being a smooth route-runner and well-rounded receiver. Vanderbilt, Tulane and UTSA have offered early.

No. 8 — [player_tooltip player_id='1619260' first='Andrew' last='Shofstahl'] — 6-4, 315 OL — St. Paul's

"Big Shof" is one of the top tier of young offensive linemen in Louisiana already making their presences felt at a high level early in their careers. The Wolves' young star, who garnered all-district honors as a freshman, is an interior mauler who is as powerful as any member of state's O-line class as he explodes out of his stance, pops defenders back with his initial punch and then continues to drive with a strong base and good motor. Tulane and Georgia State have extended early offers, and a slew of other programs that includes LSU and Mississippi State have shown interest.

No. 7 — [player_tooltip player_id='1802121' first='Raymond' last='Hughes'] — 6-5, 335 OL — Archbishop Rummel

Another new addition to the list already with notable early offers in tow, the Raiders' big offensive lineman earned playing time this past fall as a freshman, a somewhat-rare distinction in the trenches in the New Orleans Catholic League. Hughes, working at left tackle, has great size for next level, including a strong lower-body base, and shows good mobility and bend at his size. Ole Miss, Auburn, Tulane and Nicholls State have already extended offers, and LSU and other programs have shown interest.

No. 6 — [player_tooltip player_id='1372221' first='Cayden' last='Lancelin'] — 6-0, 175 WR/DB — Westgate

The explosive Westgate weapon remains in the thick of the top 10 and fits well in the growing theme of wide receivers helping headline the class. Notably his positional distinction flips in this rankings update from "DB/WR" to "WR/DB" as he continues to play a focal role on offense heading into sophomore year, though we continue to love his potential at safety as well. Lancelin is a well-rounded, rangy athlete with good speed, a springy leap, long catch radius at his height and great hands. He consistently creates separation, but also shows the ability to make even acrobatic grabs is tighter coverage. And on defense, his instincts and timing stand out as he reads plays and slams windows shut for interceptions and breakups. Miami, Mississippi State, Texas A&M, Baylor, Houston, Auburn and Tulane have all extended early offers.

No. 5 — [player_tooltip player_id='1845257' first='Dalen' last='Powell'] — 6-1, 170 RB/ATH — Ruston

The Bearcats' young running back debuts as the highest-ranking prospect at the position in this round of updates ahead of what we anticipate as a breakout sophomore season. Powell has great size for the next level, a strong build, an explosive burst upfield and breakaway speed to be on his way to the end zone in the blink of an eye. His 40-yard dash is currently listed at 4.6 seconds, a great range at this stage in his development and a number we expect to see continue to come down. And he appears to have the tools to also be an effective weapon in the passing game with his hands and vertical leap to help further round out his intriguing athletic profile.

No. 4 — [player_tooltip player_id='1845260' first='Jarvis' last='Stevenson'] — 6-5, 190 WR — John Curtis

The tall, long and springy multisport athlete is among Louisiana's top young football and basketball prospects with the height, catch radius, fluidity and above-the-rim ability to be a contested-catch maven capable of consistently winning reps even in tighter coverage. His college offers list is already exploding, including Tulane, Auburn, Michigan, Troy, Arkansas and Florida on the football side. And he has expressed a passion for attention to detail in his route-running that, once he fully returns from an offseason injury, should serve him well as he works to continue developing as a well-rounded all-around receiver.

No. 3 — [player_tooltip player_id='1804134' first='Jacolby' last='Campbell'] — 6-1, 170 WR — Abbeville

The highest ranking debut in this round of rankings updates, Campbell is right near the top — if not the top — of the smoothest and most explosive athletes in the increasingly star-studded cast of wide receivers in the class with a highlight reel loaded with clips of him creating separation in his route-running or with the ball already in his hands and destroying defenders' angles as he glides by for huge yards after catch. Campbell has the size and ball skills to go up and win tougher catches and is a threat to find the end zone any time he touches the ball. The Wildcats' standout already boasted a half-dozen offers, including Mississippi State, Arkansas, Penn State and Houston.

No. 2 — [player_tooltip player_id='1372155' first='Calvin' last='Ursin'] — 6-2, 190 WR/ATH — Live Oak

The Eagles' two-way standout holds steady at the No. 2 overall spot and distinction as the top receiver in the latest rankings update. "Deuce" is a thickly built and fluid athlete with long arms, great instincts and ball skills, including his timing, leap and body control to go up over defenders and make strong plays at the catch point in tight, physical coverage. Ursin was Louisiana's first prospect in the class to see his recruitment start taking off last summer with offers from Florida State, Tulane and Southern, and that process hasn't slowed down, including earning LSU's first in-state offer in the class this spring.

No. 1 — [player_tooltip player_id='1372214' first='Chance' last='Archangel'] — 6-3, 225 EDGE/DL — Westgate

The big defensive lineman holds down the top spot heading into sophomore year after his solid debut season this past fall at a premium position as an edge-rusher. Archangel has a long frame, solid build, explosive get-off and good overall athleticism at his size and has the potential to be effective anywhere across the defensive front. He finished his freshman campaign with 33 tackles, including 14 for loss, seven sacks and three fumble recoveries, plus an all-district second-team selection and a highlight reel that has helped earn offers from Texas A&M, Houston, Mississippi State, Baylor and SMU.
