The rush of college commitments before the fast-approaching season continued into August as 2026 prospects try to wrap up their recruitments prior to their senior season.

Here's a look at three of the offensive standouts who shared their next-level plans during the first half of this month, including a couple top-50 prospects from the Lafayette area — plus a couple notes on other Louisiana natives.

[player_tooltip player_id='710967' first='Chantz' last='Babineaux'] — 6-0, 185 ATH — Carencro —> Nicholls State

The Golden Bears' star has been a versatile and prolific star during the entirety of his high school career with a record-setting freshman season wide receiver and record-setting sophomore season as a quarterback among his three-phase, four-sport résumé. Home-state Nicholls State may have landed one of the steals of the class with the commitment this month of one-time FBS and even Power-Four target who appears poised to play more on the offensive side of the ball at the next level.

[player_tooltip player_id='401749' first='Cole' last='Bergeron'] — 6-4, 210 QB — St. Thomas More —> Virginia Tech

The top-ranked quarterback in Prep Redzone Louisiana's rankings entering senior year became a clear priority target for the Hokies this summer and announced his commitment to the program over Colorado, Georgia Tech, UCLA and others prior to kicking off the season. Bergeron has a great frame, build and strong arm for the next level, enough athleticism to buy time for his receivers and a cool, even-keel demeanor.

[player_tooltip player_id='401959' first='George' last='Loop'] — 5-11, 180 WR — Isidore Newman —> Dartmouth

The Greenies' speedy outside vertical threat and return man announced his commitment this month to Dartmouth, continuing Isidore Newman's longstanding pipeline to the Ivy League program. George is listed a couple inches taller than older brother Peter, a go-to target in the 2024 class, and is a crafty route-runner with speed that has made him a threat to score from anywhere on the field.

OTHER NOTES

—> Lafayette Christian wide receiver [player_tooltip player_id='924621' first='Brayden' last='Allen'] was among the highly ranked Louisiana seniors to announce his commitment in July as he pledged to home-state Tulane over Texas Tech and others. His recruitment has appeared to hit another gear since that decision, though, with Ole Miss, Colorado and Oklahoma all extending recent offers and making the Knights' all-state standouts arguably the most interesting "flip watch" candidate in Louisiana's class.

—> Former St. James star Jarmaine Mitchell became the second Louisiana native now at the JUCO level to announce a commitment to Mississippi State in the span of two weeks, joining former Beau Chene wide receiver Matthew Mayfield who shared his own plans in the final days of July. Both players were ranked by Prep Redzone Louisiana in the 2024 class and appear poised to get their SEC opportunities.
