A sleeper team in Class AAAA this season may be the George Washington Patriots, who may be flying under the radar as a team heading into the 2025 season. They have top talent at every position on the field with playmakers and a strong linemen group to lean on. They boast a tough schedule that they'll have to navigate to determine their final playoff seeding, but the Patriots have the potential to be a difficult out in the postseason.   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">2025 Schedule</h2>   8/29: vs Spring Valley 9/5: vs Hurricane 9/12: at Cabell Midland 9/19: vs South Charleston 9/26: at Barnesville 10/3: at Parkersburg 10/11: vs Jefferson 10/17: vs Huntington 10/24: at Capital 11/7: vs Woodrow Wilson   2024 Record: 7-4 2025 Prediction: 7-3    [player_tooltip player_id='894640' first='Johvon' last='Davis'] is an intriguing prospect in the 2026 class who has transformed a lot over the past three years. Formally highly ranked as an offensive lineman, Davis has lost significant weight and is projecting better as a defensive line prospect heading into his senior year. He has the length and athleticism to develop into a future high-level college player at that position once he builds back up his frame with good mass.      [player_tooltip player_id='1227640' first='Clyde' last='May'] is a 2026 defensive prospect who deserves more college attention heading into his senior year. We project him as an EDGE rusher at the next level, but he may get more traditional linebacker reps as a senior. May has the frame and athleticism to develop into a disruptive EDGE in college, with the potential to thrive as a MLB or OLB, too, depending on just how athletic he is.      We're anticipating 2026 George Washington QB [player_tooltip player_id='926292' first='Cy' last='Persinger'] to have a breakout senior year for the Patriots this season. Going into the season as the full-time starter and a year of experience under his belt should allow him to prove his ability on a greater scale in his final season. Persinger has made great progress over the off-season, which should translate well during the season.   Here's what we recently said about Persinger in our <a href="https://prepredzone.com/2025/07/new-additions-to-the-2026-top-100/">2026 Rankings New Additions article</a>:   "We got game film of 2026 George Washington QB [player_tooltip player_id='926292' first='Cy' last='Persinger']<a href="https://prepredzone.com/player/cy-persinger/"></a> after our last rankings update was posted, and he quickly rose to our #3 quarterback in the class. Persinger had a quality junior season for the Patriots, showing a glimpse of what he's capable of, but he has the upside and potential to showcase a much higher level of play and production as a senior this fall. He has the ideal frame for a scholarship-level quarterback, with the arm talent to warrant plenty of looks this fall. Persinger is building momentum throughout 7on7s this summer and should receive college attention quickly this fall."      2026 George Washington OL [player_tooltip player_id='864575' first='Brayden' last='Edwards'] will help anchor a talented offensive line group for the Patriots this season. He's a versatile lineman who could line up at all three positions on the line and has experience at all of them. Center or guard is where his future is at the next level, with long snapping ability as well. Edwards has steadily grown into his body, which likely keeps him along the offensive line at the next level, and he's made a lot of progress at that spot during his career.      2026 George Washington ATH [player_tooltip player_id='894638' first='Grant' last='Uldrich'] is a versatile athlete who could end up at a few different positions in college. He's a bit of a linebacker/safety hybrid type of player with a good frame and athletic build to mold into either spot. That versatility should intrigue colleges this season as a prospect who has been quiet on social media regarding his next-level interest. Uldrich is comfortable playing as a box safety or outside linebacker who flies to the ball or can drop into coverage effectively.      George Washington will need some linebackers to step into bigger roles in 2025, and 2026 LB [player_tooltip player_id='1139383' first='Casey' last='Adkins'] appears to be a prime candidate to do so. He's undersized for the position, but did a nice job with his opportunities as a junior and should have his best season as a senior.   Here's what we recently said about Adkins in our <a href="https://prepredzone.com/2025/07/new-additions-to-the-2026-top-250-pt-1/">2026 Rankings New Additions article</a>:   "George Washington graduated a pair of D1 linebackers from a season ago, which will open the door for more opportunities for athletes like [player_tooltip player_id='1139383' first='Casey' last='Adkins']<a href="https://prepredzone.com/player/casey-adkins/"></a> this season. He produced when his name was called upon as a junior, and Adkins should fill in at one of those vacant LB spots as a senior. You can line him up at middle linebacker, where he's a strong run-stopper between the tackles, or rush him off the edge. That versatility should have Adkins starting in some role this season, with the potential to climb the rankings."      The second linebacker candidate to step into a bigger role for the Patriots this season is 2026 LB [player_tooltip player_id='1677147' first='Landyn' last='Hamilton']. He caught our eye at a camp this summer and has limited film available right now, which has him under the radar as a prospect. If he can get more film as a senior, expect Hamilton to garner D3 interest this fall.   Here's what we recently said about Hamilton in our <a href="https://prepredzone.com/2025/07/new-additions-to-the-2026-top-250-pt-1/">2026 Rankings New Additions article</a>:   "Another 2026 George Washington linebacker to know is [player_tooltip player_id='1677147' first='Landyn' last='Hamilton']. He caught our eye at one of the GCOH Exposure Camps this summer as a stocky athlete who made some plays in pass coverage during the camp. Just like classmate [player_tooltip player_id='1139383' first='Casey' last='Adkins'], Hamilton will benefit from two big graduation losses in the Patriots' linebacker group and should have increased opportunities to showcase his ability this fall. He's also versatile in being able to play in the middle or line up as an OLB/EDGE rusher, with upside at both alignments."      [player_tooltip player_id='894639' first='Sameje'' last='Wesley'] has been on our radar since his freshman year, but has had to wait his turn to become a bigger part of the Patriots' varsity squad. That bigger opportunity should come during his senior season as a late-blooming prospect who has the ability and potential to receive college interest. Wesley is another weapon that the Patriots could utilize on offense, but he may make his biggest mark as a defensive back this season. Growing into his body was the biggest area that Wesley needed to work on over the past three years, and he's done a nice job of making significant progress in that regard, which should pay off in his final year.      A 2027 George Washington prospect who we are very high on and expect big things from over the next two seasons is OL [player_tooltip player_id='1616167' first='James' last='Payne']. He skyrocketed up our rankings this summer after getting updated film and measurements for him. Payne is a future D1 prospect in our eyes and should begin to receive college attention after this season.   Here's what we recently said about Payne in our <a href="https://prepredzone.com/2025/07/2027-summer-rankings-update-offensive-stock-risers/">2027 Rankings Stock Risers article</a>:   "2027 George Washington OL [player_tooltip player_id='1616167' first='James' last='Payne']<a href="https://prepredzone.com/player/james-payne/"></a> impressed us with the limited amount of film and information we had of him in our last update, but a full season highlight tape and updated measurables quickly surged him up the rankings. Payne is now a Top 15 prospect in the 2027 class in our eyes as the #3 OL prospect and a bright future coming for the 6'4 250 big man. He's a standout wrestler for the Patriots as well, and it shows in his level of physicality on the football field. Payne is a future D1 prospect in our eyes as he makes his name more known over the next two years."      Is this the year that 2027 George Washington WR/DB [player_tooltip player_id='1154939' first='Kai' last='Martin'] proves the potential we've seen in him since his freshman year? That's the biggest question for him heading into his junior year as he's waited for expanded opportunities on the varsity team. Martin has high-level upside in our eyes, but it needs to translate on Friday nights over the next two seasons. The size, athleticism, and raw ability are present in Martin's game, which is bound to eventually allow him to emerge as a playmaker as a now upperclassman.
