With July officially upon us and half the year already in the rearview mirror, the sense of urgency among those grinding to be great starts to go off the charts. There has been a lot accomplished to date but there is still plenty left to do.

And, if the blink-of-an-eye thing doesn't get you out of your chair, just know the competition is using this time...and grinders don't get out-worked.

You didn't come this far to lose the competition before the season even starts.

In this report we are taking a quick look at five guys who have shifted into overdrive for June and July and are getting ready to deliver an apex performance when August rolls around. All five below are seasoned vets who have been laser focused all year and are going to be ready to go full throttle this fall.

So, without further adieu, let's take a look at what these guys have been doing in the off-season:

[player_tooltip player_id='1585174' first='Brody' last='Chambers'] , 6'1, 280, OL/DL, SE Saline '26. He is coming off a standout junior season when he helped lead his team to the 2A state championship with a big win over Nemaha Central 36-28 and wrecked havoc along the way. A two-way trench warrior, he is a pile-driving offensive lineman who can play guard or tackle and on defense plays anywhere between the tackles. He brings a dominating style of play to both sides of the ball as he uses his strength, leverage, and quick feet to deliver pancake blocks on offense, while overwhelming blockers on defense blowing through double teams and stacking up inside gaps. Last year he was active, piling up 77 tackles, 22 tackles for loss and had six sacks. This guy is a wrecking ball along the line of scrimmage and is getting ready to shift into destroyer-mode this fall.

[player_tooltip player_id='1355716' first='Ryder' last='Newton'] , 6'0, 215, LB/RB, Ft Scott, '26. He is coming off a solid junior season as a versatile two-way playmaker who is a punishing running back on offense and headhunter linebacker on defense. With his powerful frame and low center of gravity, he tramples would-be tacklers and has the burst to turn the corner. On defense he can play any of the linebacker positions or come charging off the edge, but where he really shines is as an aggressive outside linebacker with great instincts and a nose for the ball. He steps up to plug gaps along the front lines and takes out backs trying to hit the perimeter. His off-season spring-summer training has been busy, hitting camps and junior days at Pitt State, Washburn and Fort Hays State earlier. This guy is going to terrorize southeast teams this fall.

[player_tooltip player_id='1351463' first='Jalik' last='Armstrong'] , 5'10, 170, RB/DB, Wellington, '26. He is a two-way baller who picked up 500 yards rushing at 6.2 yards per carry and scored 11 TD's, while also catching 9 passes for 161 yards and a pair of scores last fall. On defense he is a ballhawk defensive back who had 40 tackles and picked off two interceptions. In the Crusader's high-octane offense he is used in a variety of ways and with the ball in hand, turns on the afterburners and outruns the defense to paydirt. On defense he uses his read and react skills and top-end closing speed to disrupt offenses. His off-season has been busy as he has put on weight while getting even faster, and has hit camps at Arkansas Tech and Missouri Western, with Ottawa, Southern Nazarene and McPherson in July. This guy is going to be smoking hot this fall.

Dominick Hernandez, 6'4, 175, WR/CB, Russell, '26. He is another sleeper who has been flying under the radar in western Kansas but is getting ready to surprise some people this fall. With his prototype size and speed, he is a weapon split wide who can burn through coverages and uses his next-level catch radius to high-point passes in the endzone. On defense he uses his length and athleticism as a smothering cornerback who can play lock-down defense at the line of scrimmage or float in zone and fly to the football. He is also not afraid to mix it up and is an aggressive open-field tackler when collapsing down on the run. His off-season has been positive, putting on weight while increasing speed. He is still deciding on which camps to hit in July to get his name out, but in the meantime, get this guy on your watchlists as he is going to go off this fall.

JJ Remy, 6'0, 215, LB/DE, Andover, '27. He is another versatile defender coming off a good sophomore season and is the only representative for the class of '27 in this report. On offense, he can play tight end as needed, but really stands out on defense where he can play any of the linebacker positions or excels as a pounding defensive end who storms the gates coming off the edge. With an explosive base, heavy hands and a quick first step he uses good pad level and body lean to slide by blockers and get in the backfield. He has been busy in the off-season lifting, usually training twice a day doing his speedwork and agilities and working on the nuances and mechanics associated with aggressive pass-rushing techniques. The word is just getting out but get this guy in your sights as he is going to be a disruptive force this fall for the Trojans.

In conclusion, get out and follow their progress – you will not be disappointed. And, as always, if you run across any teams or players flying under the radar give me a shout via DM on X.

And, as usual…

Keep grindin'
