Preseason Review - Seguin Matadors

The Seguin Matadors was lead by head coach Craig Dailey, the Seguin Matadors are aiming to flip the script after a 5-6 overall record and a 4-3 district finish last season. In a competitive district, the Matadors showed flashes of what they could be gritty, tough, and capable of hanging with anybody on any given Friday. Now, with another year under Dailey's leadership and a roster full of experience and hunger, Seguin enters the 2025 campaign with unfinished business on their mind. The matadors keys players for this season:    Corey , a Pitt quarterback commit, is a polished passer with high level arm talent and poise beyond his years. He throws with confidence and touch, showing the ability to drive the ball into tight windows and stretch the field vertically. What stands out most is his presence in the pocket he's calm under pressure, moves with subtlety, and keeps his eyes downfield. Mechanically sound with quick feet and a clean release, Corey can make plays both in structure and on the move      Ian is a productive and tough-nosed running back who put together a strong season with over 1,200 rushing yards and 8 touchdowns. He runs with great vision and patience, allowing blocks to develop before hitting the hole with purpose. Ian's low center of gravity helps him stay balanced through contact, and he consistently falls forward for extra yards. He has a quick first step and can make defenders miss in space, but he also shows the physicality to finish runs. Whether he's grinding out tough yards or breaking off chunk plays, Ian is the kind of back you can lean on to carry the load and set the tone for an offense. He's the type of back who doesn't need a high volume of touches to leave a big impact.     Ayden is a smooth and reliable wide receiver who brings consistency and playmaking ability to the offense. He runs crisp routes, creates separation with ease, and has dependable hands in traffic. Whether he's working the middle of the field or stretching it vertically, Ayden shows great awareness and body control. He's a quarterback's best friend always in the right spot and ready to make a play when his number is called.      Elliot is a playmaking wide receiver who brings energy and impact every time he's on the field. He's the type of athlete who doesn't need many touches to leave his mark whether it's a deep shot, a quick screen, or a scramble drill, Elliot finds a way to make something happen      Marcus is a confident and instinctive defensive back who plays with a physical edge and a nose for the football. He shows great awareness in coverage, reads routes well, and has the ability to break on the ball with timing and aggression. Whether he's locking down receivers in man or making plays in zone, Marcus competes on every snap. He's not afraid to come downhill and help in the run game, and his energy on the back end sets the tone for the defense.      Julius is a compact and powerful linebacker who plays with intensity and a high motor. Despite not having prototypical size, he overcomes it with physicality, quickness, and smart play. He's quick to diagnose plays and isn't afraid to shoot gaps and make stops in the backfield. Julius brings a strong presence to the middle of the defense, delivering solid tackles and setting the tone with his aggression. He moves well sideline to sideline, shows good awareness in coverage, and consistently finds himself around the ball. His leadership and communication skills help keep the defense organized and energized, making him a key part of the unit.      Damian is a relentless linebacker who flies to the ball and hits hard. He's quick off the snap, reads plays well, and isn't afraid to take on blockers. Hunter may not be the biggest defensive lineman on the field, but he plays with relentless effort and great technique. Caleb isn't the biggest defensive back, but he makes up for it with his quickness and smart play. He has sharp instincts, stays disciplined in coverage, and competes hard on every snap. Caleb's speed and agility help him stay tight on receivers and make plays across the field.        Jordan is a strong and technically sound offensive lineman who consistently wins his matchups. He shows good footwork and balance, which allows him to anchor well in pass protection and drive defenders off the line in the run game. Jordan's physicality and work ethic make him a reliable foundation for his team's offense. Expect Damon to be a Nickel during the season.       Seguin High School enters the 2025 season with a solid foundation and plenty of potential.
