Moving on to the defensive side of the ball in Jamestown, as we dig in with our live evaluations that we got at the Jamestown Prospect Camp last Thursday. With new names, camp risers you can only see at camp,, a few MVPs and Alphas in each group and more.

Parnell was a defenisve end that was hard to miss just looking at the length of his wingspan that we saw going into the Jamestown Camp, as he showed the upside on using it for his advantage the deeper we got into camp. He was one defensive end that I couldn't miss during any his drills I watched in Jamestown, due to how he finished every drill and showed the example of how it's done duirng a camp setting when you realize every one is watching your every move. He was one of the only underclassmen to get on my board amongs the defenisve line group for a reason, as Parnell also showed off an intriguing get off of sound quickness when watching his first step. What else impressed me with Parnell during the live eval in Jamestown was his coachability, which at this point in the summer might be an overly stated term, but you have to have all of it if you want to play at the next-level. The pass rush moves I could tell got more natural over time from Parnell which was a great sign to end the 1v1 reps at hte Jamestown Prospect Camp as I can't oversate it, I love this kid's upside heading into his junior season with the Spartans.

Gage is a prospect I got some good looks during the 9-man state finals in Minnesota this past 2024 fall season, and is one that after watching him in Jamestown I feel possessed the position flexibility to play on either side of the trenches, as in my eyes the defensive line is one that has his highest upside. He's one that I like the development he could grow when watching his pursuit angles during the live eval, as one that I feel with coaching could pay off some dividends at the next-level. If we are talking best fit, Gage to me looks like a defensive tackle at the next-level as one that I feel has the long arms and good range to slow down the run game. He's one that is still waiting on his first offer but has the tools to play at the next-level.

Most of the live reps I have ever seen from Preston has come at the tight end position, but seeing him in the defenisve line group had me intrigued to watch his reps in Jamestown last Thursday and he did not dissapoint there. Preston showed off the mix of speed, power, and showed that he knew how to use his length as an advantage in teh reps I watched. He's one that had some "clockwork" like reps during 1v1s that surely caught my attention as I came away intigued too with the power generation he had in his hands as well. Great minds think alike, as the Jimmies threw him an offer after their camp for what he showed off.

Brady is the defensive linemen I would consider the "alpha" as [player_tooltip player_id='1292679' first='Oliver' last='West'] would say for best at their position as they say the tape doesn't lie, the amount of notes in my noetbook doesn't lie either when watching his 1v1 reps. He showed off the fastest get off hands off his blocks as a pass rusher, as that remained pretty consistent from what I watched from Brady throughout the afternoon in Jamestown. Not only were his hands quick, but they were relentless as well, as even when I wasn't watching the DL gorup, Brady brought the noise with how fesity his hands were in a strong way. Another area of skillsets you want from your pass rusher, is the speed off the snap, which Brady brought out on numerous ocassions last Thursday. I was surprised to learn, that this young man just has one NAIA offer thus far.

The linebacker group might have not been the biggest, but Joren Flores of Pueblo West seperated himself from the rest of the pack on a few reps I watched at the Jamestown Prospect Camp. The natural instincts were evident when I watched his indy and 1v1 reps later, as this young man had the eye-catching vision that pounced on the ball whenever it came his way and "pounce" is a good way to describe his physicality on contact with a few more reps I watched. The verified 5'11 208 pounder flashed even swifter change of direction too during the live reps I watched which appeared faster than the 4.59 he ran in the pro agility during testing. Clearly the Jimmies staff saw what I was seeing too, as he landed his first offer after camp on Thursday.

The defensive back group wasn't a big one, but as far as prospect value at the next-level it was a good one, as [player_tooltip player_id='1257223' first='Sawyer' last='Thomsen'] of Spring Lake Park was one of a couple in the gorup that intrigued me last Thursday in Jamestown. Sawyer in my eyes, had the best instincts that I watched in this DB group as it didn't take long to see the football IQ come out in the reps I watched as he showed off a smooth nose for the ball. Not only was he progressive in pass coverage, but man did this young man light up a spark when he made contact with the ball carrier, as I recall Sawyer having one of the hardest hits during camp which really caught my eyes even more. Sawyer has now three offers on his recruiting trail as one defensive back that is trending upwards in Minnesota.

Business was booming on the recruiting trail last week for Charlie, as he logged three offers in 5 days including the one he got for his camp performance at the Jamestown Prospect Camp. He started off his day by showing off some of the best footwork I saw out of the defensive back group as it certainly didn't take long to notice from my eyes. Charlie also intrigued me with his ball tracking ability during the 1v1 reps I got to watch as another defensive back that I loved the football IQ I could tell he played with on every rep I got to watch. If you like defensive backs that could lay the wood on contact, this group was one that did all that as Charlie also had a hit stick of his own on one particular rep I watched to end camp with a literal bang.

I cannot lie, a 2026 athlete that came out of nowhere at the Jamestown Prospect Camp out of South Dakota was Holden Wollman out of BEE. We got the "whoa" glimpses of what Holden looked liked athletically in the triple broad jump in which he jumped nearly 31 feet, back to back which helped me identify the athletic traits that were there. The 6'0 165 pounder also ran a 4.49 in his pro agility to add to that athletic profile. Getting into the indy and 1v1s, I could see the natural twitch this young possessed when watching him get over the top of the WR on crossing routes, getting to his angle to attack the ball quickly. Another can't miss area that Holden popped out duirng the Jamestown Camp, was how he finished every rep I watched, as he showed off the determination to show every ounce of juice he had in his tank on every rep I watched. Surely a prospect that to me that can play on Saturdays and one that is going to be a sure-fire rankings riser in this new 2026 rankings update in South Dakota I am putting together.

If I had to give out an MVP for best all-around performance on both sides of the ball, my vote would certainly go for Grand Forks Red River 2026 athlete [player_tooltip player_id='929962' first='Matthew' last='Dosch'] at the Jamestown Prospect Camp last Thursday. As a pass-catcher, he showed off one of the biggest catch radiuses I saw at camp as Matthew showed throughout camp with the Jimmies the still soft hands whenever the ball was thrown his way. The 6'3 200 pounder, also had some defensive back reps that caught my attention as you could gauge super quickly how rangy Matthew was in the secondary, showing off how quickly he could get to the ball and get his hips turned on the ball at the proper angle. Regardless on which side of the ball he was on, he played with an excellent presence on every rep and it's not the first time this summer his name has come up in one of our reports, as Midwest Scouting Director [player_tooltip player_id='1292679' first='Oliver' last='West'], was impressed with him at the UND Flagship Camp too this summer. Surely one that you needed to see at camps this summer which is why I love camp season so much, as you don't realize the prospect value for athletes like Matthew unless you get on the road and get that live eval.
