Throughout the month of July and even into August, we are publishing well over 100 of the most in-depth team previews that you'll find anywhere to get you completely ready for the 2025 football season. This is something that began for us at PRZ-Oklahoma in 2021 and it continues to get bigger and better every single year. We're looking forward to diving deep into the top teams across the state in every class. From defending champions, to the top contenders and plenty of dark horses and other teams to know, we'll have complete coverage every single day. There will be multiple previews dropping every single day! In this post, we take a look at the Holland Hall Dutch!

Holland Hall Dutch

Preseason Prep Redzone Ranking: UR In Class 3A

Head Coach: Brian Thompson - 2nd Season - 7-5 Record At Holland Hall

2024 RESULTS (7-5 Record - Lost In Class 3A Quarterfinals)

Aug. 30th - Lost To Cascia Hall 29-28
Sept. 6th - Beat W. Longtime head coach Tag Gross announced his retirement following the 2023 football season. The Dutch would name longtime assistant coach Brian Thompson as the next head coach at Holland Hall. For the first time since the late 90's, Holland Hall went into a season with a first year head coach. It was a rocky start as they lost a heartbreaker in the annual “Hall Brawl” with Cascia Hall in week zero. They bounced back with two straight wins but then dropped the first two district games on their slate to Idabel and Lincoln Christian. At the halfway mark of the regular season, the Dutch were 2-3 and needed to turn things around in district play. They did just that, winning four straight games to improve to 6-3 heading into the final week of the regular season. But in week ten, the Dutch hit a Stigler-shaped wall and all momentum was stopped at the worst time. They lost to Stigler 32-7 before entering the playoffs. They opened the playoffs with a 1st round win over Berryhill and then the season came to an end in the quarterfinals after they lost to Heritage Hall. The Dutch finished 7-5 in Thompson's first season as Holland Hall's head coach. But the arrow is pointing up as they head into 2025 and we're very intrigued by the players they have coming back this fall.

2025 OUTLOOK

The Dutch come into the 2025 football season with a little more than half of the starters back from last year's team. Offensively, they bring back six starters from a unit that averaged a little more than 25 points per game. The conversation starts with the quarterback position as the Dutch bring back a productive and experienced player at QB1. And it wouldn't be surprising to see Holland Hall average more points per game in 2025 as they bring back quite a bit of firepower from last season. Defensively, the Dutch also bring back six starters from last year's team. It will be interesting to see how the experienced veterans mesh with the new faces on that side of the ball. Just like with the offense, we think the defense could potentially be better than what we saw from them in 2024. The Dutch come into this season just outside of the preseason top ten but they will more than likely prove us wrong and spend the majority of this season in the top ten. Now, the Dutch will be hungry to get out to a fast start this season. They've had a couple years recently where they've stumbled out of the gate but finished strong. This season, the goal will be to start fast and finish strong. It's been a few years since the Dutch were capturing back to back state championships. Holland Hall is hungry to get back to that point.

KEY LOSSES TO GRADUATION

Cole Muir - Linebacker - All State Honorable Mention
Matthew Underwood - Tight End

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Holland Hall has a few guys to look out for on the line of scrimmage but we're going with senior [player_tooltip player_id='541611' first='Hunter' last='Collier'] entering this fall because of the impact he can have on both sides of the line. First off, defensively, he's one of the top returning tacklers from last year's team. He finished last season with 55 tackles, including ten for loss and six sacks. Collier will also impact the game on the offensive side of the line of scrimmage. Collier brings a fantastic combination of experience and production back. He'll look to set the tone for the Dutch on both sides of the line.

Senior wide receiver [player_tooltip player_id='1083768' first='Kainon' last='Gibson'] is one of many players across Oklahoma that are counting down the days to kick off the 2025 football season. Gibson looks to make up for lost time after he missed four games last season. But when Gibson was healthy, he was one of the top offensive playmakers for the Dutch at the wide receiver position. In limited action, Gibson had 23 catches, totaling nearly 450 yards and five touchdowns. We're looking forward to seeing what kind of production Gibson can have with a full season at full strength. He could be primed for a monster 2025 campaign.

While Holland Hall has a really solid senior class returning, don't overlook some of the talent they have in the other classes. Junior [player_tooltip player_id='1637570' first='Rhett' last='Gibson'] is a good example of a player that feels ready to take the next step this season. Last year, Gibson would become one of Holland Hall's top producers in the running game. He finished the year with nearly 150 carries, running for 650 yards and six touchdowns. It wouldn't be surprising to see Gibson take his production to new heights this season. And don't overlook his ability to play defense if necessary for the Dutch this fall.

Senior quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='1732959' first='Trey' last='Burleson'] enjoyed a breakout season running the Holland Hall offense in 2024. He was incredibly productive last fall and was becoming one of the better dual-threat quarterbacks in Class 3A. Burleson would throw for nearly 1,500 yards and 15 touchdowns. He would also finish the season with well over 300 yards and six touchdowns on the ground. It will be interesting to see what kind of jump Burleson makes this season. There's no doubt that he has talent around him at the skill positions so we could end up seeing some monster numbers from him as a passer and runner.

MORE NAMES TO KNOW

Ames Wheeler - 2026 Offensive/Defensive Lineman
[player_tooltip player_id='827570' first='Blayze' last='Buchanan'] - 2027 Defensive Back
Bryce Kueser - 2026 Tight End/Linebacker
[player_tooltip player_id='1608114' first='Donald' last='Clark'] - 2026 Defensive Back
Henry Hill - 2026 Linebacker
[player_tooltip player_id='1833188' first='Kaysen' last='Fredieu'] - 2027 Wide Receiver
[player_tooltip player_id='1249314' first='Liam' last='Kaplan'] - 2028 Quarterback
Louis Culley - 2027 Offensive/Defensive Lineman

2025 SCHEDULE

Aug. 29th - Cascia Hall
- For the second straight year, the annual “Hall Brawl” will kick off the season for Holland Hall. They host rival Cascia Hall and they'll attempt to turn things around in this rivalry. They've lost three straight to the Commandos by a combined ten points, including last year's 29-28 loss.
Sept. 5th - AT W. Rogers
- The first road game comes in week one as the Dutch go across town to face off with Tulsa Rogers. These two teams started meeting in district play three years ago and the Dutch have a 2-1 advantage, including a dominant 49-0 victory last season. The first two meetings were much more competitive.
Sept. 12th - AT Victory Christian
- The non-district slate will wrap up in week two as the Dutch will go back on the road, this time facing Victory Christian. Holland Hall beat the Conquerors 39-28 last season but despite being less than five miles away from each other, that was the first meeting between these two since 2017.
Sept. 26th - Idabel
- The Dutch will open up district play at home in week four, against Idabel. Almost every district opponent last season featured first time meetings and Idabel was the first. The Warriors beat the Dutch 41-7 last season. But Idabel will look different in 2025 with a first year head coach.
Oct. 3rd - AT Lincoln Christian
- Class 3A has run through Lincoln Christian the last two years and Holland Hall is looking to change that. The Dutch have lost the last three in the series, including last year's 55-0 decision. Prior to this stretch, the last two Holland Hall victories were in state championship games in 2020 and 2021.
Oct. 10th - Eufaula
- The second half of the regular season kicks off with a home game against Eufaula in week six. Last season's meeting was the first between these two programs. Holland Hall would prevail in the first match-up, winning 20-7. This was the turning point for the Dutch and their season last year.
Oct. 16th - AT Checotah
- On a Fall Break Thursday night, Holland Hall hits the road to face off with Checotah. Last season, the Dutch escaped with a 33-32 victory over the Wildcats. Checotah was a new district opponent for the Dutch. The previous three meetings (all since 2020) have been in the playoffs.
Oct. 24th - AT Muldrow
- Holland Hall goes back on the road in week eight to face off with Muldrow. Last season, they beat the Bulldogs 38-0 and that was another first meeting between these two programs. Both teams expect to be playoff teams this season and the Bulldogs will be tough, bringing back nearly everyone.
Oct. 31st - Locust Grove
- On a Halloween Friday night in week nine, Holland Hall will host Locust Grove. Last season was the first meeting between these two programs. Holland Hall would prevail 43-14 but this season could look pretty different. Locust Grove lost their head coach and star quarterback in the spring.
Nov. 7th - Stigler
- The regular season wraps up with a week ten home game against Stigler. Last season, the Dutch tripped up against the Panthers, losing 32-7 to Stigler. That meeting was the first time these two teams met in the regular season. They had two previous meetings, both in the playoffs.

NOTABLE

It's not easy to follow a coaching legend but Brian Thompson did a solid job in year one. Tag Gross retired following the 2023 football season and the Dutch would start a new era in 2024. While it was a bumpy start with a 2-3 record at the halfway mark, Holland Hall would switch gears and finish the season strong. And they would make it to the 3A quarterfinals for the second straight season. Holland Hall has been a consistent playoff team ever since they officially joined the OSSAA. Thompson has been with Holland Hall for years and he's finally the man in charge of the football program. Of course, this offseason saw so many coaching changes throughout the state of Oklahoma and specifically in the Tulsa area. The Dutch went through their monumental coaching change a year ago. But as they start preparing for the 2025 football season, there's no reason to think that Holland Hall won't once again be in the mix in Class 3A.

LAST FIVE SEASONS

2024 - 7-5 - Lost In Class 3A Quarterfinals
2023 - 8-4 - Lost In Class 3A Quarterfinals
2022 - 5-6 - Lost In Class 3A 1st Round
2021 - 13-1 - Class 3A State Champions
2020 - 12-0 - Class 3A State Champions

CHAMPIONSHIP HISTORY

2 State Championships

2021 - Beat Lincoln Christian 24-16
2020 - Beat Lincoln Christian 35-7
