The Hoosiers had been long involved with the elite signal caller and got him officially on board with his verbal commitment Monday. The position that commits traditionally the earliest are the signal callers because there is usually only one top tier prospect taken in each class so players want to grab their spots. What are the Hoosiers getting in Purcell? Here is our eval of him!</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><em>Purcell is one of the best prospects in the state of Illinois.  At 6'2" 185 pounds Purcell is a southpaw that has elite touch, timing, and accuracy.  So accurate on intermediate and short routes.  Gets the ball quick out of his hands.  Throws well on the run going either way.  Capable scrambler that can get a first down.  Precise footwork and mechanics for a young QB.  Throws an excellent deep ball.  Legit three level thrower that levels it incredibly well. Advanced feel for the game.</em></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>As a sophomore he posted crazy numbers and is primed for a massive junior campaign. Reminds me a lot of a Matt Leinart type QB with his accuracy and ability to make all the throws at the college level. Huge pick up for Indiana as they are getting the recruiting bump from their college football playoff appearance last season.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Purcell is the second player in the 2027 class to come off the board along with fellow QB [player_tooltip player_id='426566' first='Trae' last='Taylor'] who is off to Nebraska.
