Before you can look ahead, you have to look back at where you've been but there's no doubt that the Edmond Santa Fe Wolves want to forget about the 2024 football season. They came into the year with a lot of promise, coming off a 7-4 season in 2023 and plenty of talent returning on the offensive and defensive side of the ball. Unfortunately, injuries to key players and positions put Santa Fe into a position where they were fighting an uphill battle, seemingly all year. The record ended up being 1-9 but when you look at the game by game, you see multiple games that were decided by six points or less, especially in the second half of the season. They started 0-6, including a 41-35 loss to rival Edmond North. The Wolves got their first win of the year in week seven when they beat Westmoore 21-17. And then came one of the more head-scratching results of the season. They lost to top-ranked Owasso 31-27. That was an Owasso team that nearly captured the 6A-1 state championship. The following week, they also lost to Yukon by a single point. There's no doubt that it was just a tough season all around for the Wolves. Injuries took their toll, they suffered multiple close losses and they came up short on making the playoffs for the second time in three years. But now, the calendar has turned to 2025 and the Wolves are ready to start a new chapter this fall and Santa Fe is ready to prove a lot of people wrong.

2025 OUTLOOK

The Santa Fe Wolves are looking forward to the blank slate that the 2025 football season can offer them. They round out the top ten in our 6A-1 preseason rankings and maybe that's too high for a team that is coming off a 1-9 season but when you consider the talent they have coming back and you assume that they are going to be healthy, this feels like a team capable of being a top ten squad and making it back to the playoffs. Offensively, Santa Fe is going to look incredibly different as they bring back five starters on that side of the ball but their four-year starter at running back is now about to start his freshman season at Arizona State. They will also have a new quarterback but as we saw last season, the Wolves had to work with multiple signal callers. They have solid talent returning at the wide receiver position and up front on the offensive line. Defensively, the Wolves have a unique blend of new starters to go along with some of the best players at their position in the state. Only four starters return on the defensive side of the ball but two of them are Big 12 commits along the defensive line. So whatever Santa Fe has on defense behind them, the conversation is going to start with the guys up front on the line of scrimmage. As for the schedule, it's the same as last year and this team has the potential of making it back to the playoffs. They are going to be challenged but at the same time, you start winning some of those close games you had in 2024 and that's how you punch your ticket.

Senior [player_tooltip player_id='486608' first='Franklin' last='Sherrod'] is a player that we're very intrigued to watch this season. He's coming off a solid junior season, where he finished with a little over 50 tackles, including five interceptions and countless pass breakups. He turned into a very valuable player for the Wolves on the defensive side of the ball. He did a great job in the secondary and he looks like a player that can be moved around in different positions. And after watching Sherrod in person at a few camps and 7v7 tournaments this offseason, it wouldn't be surprising to see him play a little offense as well because he did a fantastic job in different situations this offseason.

Senior defensive lineman and Baylor commit [player_tooltip player_id='284115' first='Jae'Lin' last='Battle'] is the first of two Big 12 commits for the Wolves on the D-line. Battle checks almost every box when it comes to his ceiling as a prospect. If he can stay healthy, he's one of the best guys at his position in the state. That has been apparent every time we see him. Whether it's in camp settings or with the pads on, Battle is a problem to deal with for opposing offensive linemen. When it comes to Battle, his ceiling as a prospect is so incredibly high that we think he's just scratching the surface on what he can be. And we are fired up to see what kind of production and overall impact he can have with a full healthy season.

Joining Battle on the Santa Fe defensive line is senior [player_tooltip player_id='1626555' first='Landen' last='Anderson'] and like Battle, he's committed to a Big 12 program. Anderson emerged as a 2026 prospect that we needed to know about during his junior season. He is one of those prospects who is going to jump off the page when you see some of the measurables and production. He's big, long and the speed is faster than most guys at his size. Between Battle and Anderson, Santa Fe will have two of the best DL in 6A-1. Earlier this summer, Anderson reopened his recruitment after being committed to Kansas. A little less than a month later, he announced his new commitment to Oklahoma State.

Junior running back and defensive back [player_tooltip player_id='1723976' first='Trey' last='Robinson'] is the Santa Fe player on this spotlight that we know the least about coming into this season. But here's what we do know. He had a solid sophomore season on the defensive side of the ball. He's going to be playing some running back for the Wolves. And his older brother was arguably the best running back in school history. So based on the DNA alone, he's going to be a player to watch. But last year he showed that he can impact the game in a variety of ways. He has good size and overall athletic ability. It wouldn't surprise us at all if we look up in October and he's in the middle of a breakout season.

Aug. 29th - Jenks
- For the fourth consecutive year, Edmond Santa Fe opens up the year against the Jenks Trojans. Last season, the Wolves went over to the Tulsa area and had to come back following a 48-3 loss. But two years ago, the Wolves went on the road and stunned the Trojans 27-26.
Sept. 5th - AT Edmond North
- Edmond Santa Fe makes the short trip over to face off with Edmond North in week one. The Wolves lost 41-35 in the meeting a year ago and that would be the first of several losses by six points or less. Santa Fe is hungry to turn things around in this series when they kick off in 2025.
Sept. 12th - AT Norman
- The non-district slate will wrap up for Edmond Santa Fe in week two, as they hit the road to take on Norman. The Wolves fell 34-14 last season against the Tigers, as Norman would become one of the 6A-1 breakout teams in 2024. Santa Fe is hoping for something similar in 2025.
Sept. 26th - AT Union
- Edmond Santa Fe opens up district play with a trip over to Tulsa to square off with the Redhawks. Last season, Union won 26-14 and Santa Fe has now dropped three straight in this series. However, Union will look quite different as they have a first year head coach this fall.
Oct. 3rd - Edmond Memorial
- Following three straight road games, Edmond Santa Fe finally returns home in week five to host rival Edmond Memorial. Last season, the Bulldogs beat the Wolves 35-7 and that was the second time Santa Fe lost to Memorial in the last three years. Prior to this stretch, they won seven straight.
Oct. 10th - AT Broken Arrow
- It'll be Edmond Santa Fe's second trip to the Tulsa area in three weeks when they travel to face Broken Arrow. Last year was their first meeting since 2021. BA prevailed 27-17 last season and there is a lot of optimism surrounding the Tigers with a new head coach and an impressive roster.
Oct. 16th - Westmoore
- Edmond Santa Fe hosts Westmoore on a Fall Break Thursday night in week seven. This was the only game that the Wolves prevailed in last season and it's a series that they've also owned in recent memory. Last year's victory was their sixth consecutive win in the series against the Jaguars.
Oct. 24th - Owasso
- The Wolves go to battle with Owasso in week eight and this series has become very interesting over the last few years. Santa Fe is 0-5 against the Rams since 2020 but the last three meetings have been decided by six points or less, including last year's 31-27 loss.
Oct. 30th - AT Yukon
- In week nine, Edmond Santa Fe goes on the road to square off with Yukon. Last season, they lost 28-27 and that would keep them on the outside looking in on the playoffs. The loss also snapped a four-game winning streak against the Millers in a series that they've had a lot of success.
Nov. 7th - Norman North
- The regular season comes to an end with a week ten clash with Norman North at home. The Wolves lost 55-28 to the Timberwolves last season. This year, Santa Fe is hoping to solidify their playoff positioning. They will also be looking to snap a three-game losing streak to Norman North.

There's no doubt that last season was a year to forget for Edmond Santa Fe as they went 1-9 for the second time in the last three years. But for the Wolves, there has to be optimism that they can turn things around immediately like the last time they went 1-9. In 2022, the Wolves had an injury-plagued season that saw them go 1-9 and miss out on the playoffs. The following year, they would bounce back in a major way, going 7-4, making it to the quarterfinal round and they had one of the more dynamic running backs in the state with the last name Robinson. Well, there's another Robinson in the Santa Fe backfield and this is a team that suffered through an injury-plagued 2024 campaign. They are hopeful that history repeats itself this season but it's very simple for the Wolves as we get ready to kick off the 2025 season. They want to make their own luck and control their own destiny. And the only way to do that is to win on Friday nights. .
