One last ride in Brookings for the summer, as we close it out with the best defensive linemen we saw at the SDSU prospect camp a couple Friday's back.

The first South Dakota defensive end that caught my attention in Brookings was 2027 camp stockriser [player_tooltip player_id='1622004' first='Leif' last='Karlson'] out of Lennox. His explosive traits were evident even into testing, as at 6'3 230 pounds, Leif hit his broad jump in the low 9s as the number I recall hearing was around a 9'3. Watching Leif into the individual reps at SDSU, I could that from early summer into now, that this young man as accelerated from a technique perspective, which showed off to me most with his hand placement and hand speed. College coaches surely have been intrigued with this young man across the Midwest, as he'll surely be due to move up our 2027 SD rankings board coming out soon.

Nehemiah is a 2027 defensive linemen I had a front row seat for during 1v1s , as the hype was real watching him being coached by the SDSU staff. Getting my live eyes on the highly powerful hands Nehemiah brought to the table all day just shows the strides this young man has made in the last few months since my last live eval. His power doesn't just steem with his hands either, as from what my eyes saw all day Nehemiah generates plenty of power off his release with his well-built 6'4 275 pound frame that shows off in the eye test from top to bottom, but yet IMO has room to grow out that frame even more. The newest member of the Shakopee Sabers, Nehemiah just made things even more intresting in 6A, as Shakopee's 2027 class has to easily be one of the most stacked in the whole state. He holds offers from SDSU and NDSU and I surely would give him a FBS grade based on the amount of times I have watched him over the last 6 months.

One of the farthest travelled new names that caught my attention in Brookings, was 2026 defensive linemen Andrew Paul out of North Oldham outside of Louisville. He's hit the camp circuit in the Midwest pretty hard this summer and seen it pay off, yet I still feel he is under the radar. What I saw from him at the SDSU prospect camp, was just how wirey he was getting off with his release and the transitional hip flexibility he showed off during a handful of reps I watched showing not only a high motor, but well in control of his footwork too. He also showed he's developed since the fall season with his hand placement and getting those hands around quicker, as I could tell Andrew had a more natural freeing pass-rushing than what you might see on his junior. He holds two D2 offers but in my eyes, feel he surely should have more attention.

Easily one of my favorite Dakotas 2026 defensive ends in attendance at the last SDSU prospect camp, was Tea Area's [player_tooltip player_id='1406689' first='Chase' last='DeBoer']. You can't miss watching his first step, as the speed he generates early has the excellent sudden movement you want in your DL room. Not just the burst generated showed out either, it was evident that Chase might be the most wirey with his hands amongst the entire 2026 DE class in the Dakotas as he was relentless not only generating his power, but showing off that high motor he has with his finish ability during 1v1s. Chase was relentless during the live reps I watched, and I got to say I am surprised he didn't pick up any more offers after the 6/20 camp as I surely liked what I saw out of Chase.

The state of Missouri has been a state this summer at Midwest camps that has surely brought the juice coming north, which was the case with Rock Ridge (MO) Matthew Gass. There wasn't a kid that I was more impressed with their mix of motor, quick first step, wirey hands, and more than what Matthew showed me in Brookings as a prospect that has a G5 offer a couple D2 offers. He is one I am surprised didn't generate the offers during camp based on what I got off his live eval. Matthew is also a 2026 DE that has a high football IQ based on watching his instincts move at the SDSU prospect camp. Matthew fits in my "offer now" category if you like what you see out of him at a camp this late in July.

Because sometimes we go in "zombie mode" during camp season, we always want to give credit where it's due to one 2026 offensive linemen that we had logged in our notebook that had a sound day at the SDSU Prospect Camp that we missed from the other day.

Logan might not have been one of the biggest offensive linemen I watched in Brookings, but you could gauge the blue-collar work ethic this young man has from a mile away. He was great with his footwork generating foot speed quickly. Watching Logan during board drills, you could get another sense that this young man plays with a great football IQ, as the reps he won, he had to be strategic with his hand placement as most of the offensive linemen he went up against had slightly more size and frame. That did not phase Logan in every 1v1 rep I watched at SDSU, as this young man showed off his quick power generation, great pad-level, and even appeared to be intriguing with his angle blocking. The 6'1 225 pounder to these eyes based on the live eval, show plenty of position flexibility on both sides of the trenches as far as the next-level goes. Somehow with all that said, holds just one D3 offer right now!
