Eastern KY 26s to Watch: QB

As we head deeper into the month of June, the 2025 high school football season is quickly approaching. With that in mind, I wanted to take some time to highlight some incoming seniors in specific areas of the state of Kentucky. To continue these series, I will be taking the next week to highlight some incoming seniors at each position in Eastern Kentucky. To kick things off, here are some notable quarterbacks to watch in the class of 2026 in Eastern Kentucky.    [player_tooltip player_id='227403' first='Mason' last='Griffin'] is a quarterback who has been on my radar for a while now and is coming off a strong junior year in which he completed 196/304 passes for 2,199 yards, 18 touchdowns, and nine interceptions in 10 games. Griffin throws an impressive deep ball, using his arm strength to stretch the field while also showing the ability to place the ball where only his intended receiver can catch it. He also has a great feel for pressure, showing the ability to escape the pocket when needed while keeping his eyes down the field to make throws on the run. Mason also finished his junior year with two rushing touchdowns. Griffin has received a good amount of college interest and I wouldn't be surprised to see some offers start coming in this summer.     [player_tooltip player_id='971569' first='Zakary' last='Anderson'] is another quarterback who has been on my radar for a while now and continued to impress this past season. As a junior, Anderson completed 92/166 passes for 1,897 yards, 22 touchdowns, and eight interceptions in 10 games. Zakary has a very strong arm which he uses to lead his receivers down the field in the deep passing game. He has also shown impressive accuracy, showing the ability to hit receivers out of their breaks where they can make catches in stride. Anderson has also shown the ability to tuck the ball and make plays with his legs when needed, running the ball 38 times for 119 yards and three touchdowns as a junior. Zakary currently holds an offer from Ottawa and I expect more to come his way heading into his senior year.     [player_tooltip player_id='212334' first='Chase' last='Varney'] caught my attention with a solid junior year. Varney does a great job of running the option offense at Belfry, showing the ability to read his keys and make decisions quickly. When keeping the ball, he has shown the ability to use his speed and elusiveness in the open field to make big plays as a ball carrier. He finished this past season with 35 carries for 183 yards and eight touchdowns in 13 games. As a passer, Varney has an impressive quick release, showing the ability to hit his receivers out of their breaks quickly so that they can make catches in stride. As a junior, he completed 86/145 passes for 1,473 yards, 16 touchdowns, and seven interceptions. Chase currently holds an offer from Pikeville and I expect his recruitment to continue to heat up this offseason.     [player_tooltip player_id='1694641' first='Brady' last='Johnson'] is coming off a breakout year as a junior in which he completed 157/244 passes for 2,894 yards, 22 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions in 12 games. Johnson does a great job under pressure, showing the ability to maneuver around the pocket and escape when needed while keeping his eyes down the field to find the open receiver. He also has the arm strength to stretch the field in the deep passing game. Brady also proved to have true dual-threat ability as a junior, running the ball 78 times for 574 yards and 12 touchdowns. He also came away with one interception on defense this past season. Johnson doesn't currently hold any offers but he is a player who college coaches should have their eyes on this upcoming season.     My final notable 2026 quarterback to watch in Eastern Kentucky this season is [player_tooltip player_id='1694639' first='Luke' last='Fetherolf']. Luke is coming off a strong junior year in which he completed 151/226 passes for 2,052 yards, 25 touchdowns, and seven interceptions in 12 games. Fetherolf is a very accurate passer, showing the ability to fit passes into tight windows where only his intended receiver can catch it. He has also shown the arm strength to lead his receivers down the field in the deep passing game. Luke is also a dangerous threat as a ball carrier, finishing last season as his team's leading rusher with 70 carries for 657 yards and seven touchdowns. He also came away with one interception on defense as a junior. Luke doesn't currently hold any offers but he deserves some attention from college coaches as he definitely has the talent to play somewhere at the next level.
