On Saturday, May 3 I was fortunate enough to be invited to cover You Are Athlete's New Jersey Regional Exposure Camp. This event had a double session that features middle schoolers first and high schoolers second. As is customary whenever I attend an event, the first thing I take note of are the prospects that have the clear, physical measurables to immediately compete at the next, immediate level of play – also known as the eye test.

Leading off today's coverage is a pair of running backs from New Jersey. Hailing from Red Bank Catholic, I witnessed [player_tooltip player_id='1640952' first='Daniel' last='Love'] show out just a bit. Love ran very well throughout the competition, showcasing speed, fluidity, and the ability to change directions with ease. I had a note that indicated he might have taken defensive reps at one point during the 7on7 portion of the competition. Love came up stifle the short game effectively, but I would encourage him to remain cognizant of his run fit as a force player in such situations.... South Brunswick's [player_tooltip player_id='1673596' first='Juelz' last='Velez-Corbin'] was one of the younger prospects participating today. The 2028 graduate was a bit smaller than some of his peers and showed that his light frame allows him to almost make complete hops when he cuts. It will be interesting to see how this tendency translates to varsity.

Rancocas Valley is low-key one of my favorite WJFL teams to keep an eye on, as for the last few seasons I thought they have had many talented prospects - including [player_tooltip player_id='1043531' first='Jameer' last='Bellamy'] - who I got to watch at this camp. Bellamy proved to be slippery when wet. When participating in cat & mouse drills, Bellamy make two cuts within the box to totally break someone down to rubble. This two-piece came with a side of sauce and was awfully impressive... We close out today's coverage with [player_tooltip player_id='284072' first='Reed' last='Kauderer'] of Demarest. Coming off of a very strong, personal campaign Kauderer came out to the camp circuit to see how he stacked up. What I saw was that Kauderer made quick and sharp cuts that appeared very sudden. Moreover, he has the ability to both get down hill in a hurry and has enough wiggle in a tight space to make someone miss. This ability to move proved useful as he ran effective out routes. A strong performance turned into a valiant effort for Kauderer. At one point, he went down with a lower body injury and was done for the date. As he picked himself off the turf and dusted those pellets off of him, we come to find out Kauderer had that same leg wrapped. A gutsy effort for someone who is motivated, hungry, and wants to prove something.
