This May edition of Weekend Warriors not only features a great group of prospects, but it also highlights one of the best combines in the Kansas City metro. The KC Varsity Combines took place this past Saturday, and while I unfortunately was unable to attend, I stayed on the lookout for some standout performances.

Many prospects made the trip to compete at the latest leg in the 2025 KVC series, and it's safe to say several made a good impression. Here's a look at some performances that caught my attention.

Class of ‘26

[player_tooltip player_id='904472' first='Bailey' last='Johnson'] - Lawrence, 6'2”, 340, OL

Out of this group of upcoming seniors, it could be debated that Johnson raised his stock the most. His recruitment saw a significant boost after he won the King of the Hill competition. He's since received several offers and has been invited to multiple camps this summer. Johnson is without a doubt one of the top guards in the Class of ‘26.

[player_tooltip player_id='1260097' first='DyVair' last='McCray'] & [player_tooltip player_id='1863156' first='Trey' last='Brockington'] - Leavenworth

The Leavenworth duo of McCray and Brockington represented the Pioneer program well on Saturday. Our staff has highlighted McCray's speed in previous reports, and it was on full display at the combine. While running the 40-yard dash, McCray reached 21.5 mph in his 10-yard split. He also recorded a 6.89 L-Cone time and had a 37-inch vertical.

Brockington is currently unranked, but his performance has landed him on our radar. Like McCray, Brockington is also a speedster. The 5-foot-9 prospect reached 20.6 mph in his 10-yard split, and posted a 34-inch vertical.

[player_tooltip player_id='780453' first='Devyn' last='Davis'] - Bishop Miege, 6'1”, 260, DL

Our 2nd ranked defensive lineman in the Class of ‘26 had himself a nice day during one-on-ones. He may not have won the King of the HIll title, but he did emerge as one of the top DL prospects in attendance. He's a player that should see his recruitment pick up ahead of his senior year.

[player_tooltip player_id='586960' first='LJ' last='Bowens'] - Blue Valley NW, 5'9”, 170, RB

Bowens showed why he's regarded as one of the top backs in the upcoming senior class. After earning a share of the running back MVP award, Bowens received an offer from The University of Saint Mary, and was invited to Northeastern State University's prospect camp.

[player_tooltip player_id='904450' first='Beckett' last='Linden'] - Blue Valley NW, 5'11”, 205, LB

There was another BVNW Husky that shined while in attendance. Linden recently received a few offers ahead of the combine, and walked away from the event with some more. Central Methodist University and MidAmerica Nazarene University both offered the talented linebacker. Linden also picked up an invite to a Top Prospect camp.

Class of ‘27

[player_tooltip player_id='823254' first='Terrence' last='Bryant'] - St. Thomas Aquinas, 6'0”, 180, LB/ATH

Bryant has been touted as one of the top defensive prospects in the Class of ‘27 and it showed on Saturday. He nearly reached 20 mph with his 10-yard split in the 40, as he peaked at 19.6 mph. In addition to this, he posted a solid time in the three-cone shuttle with a 4.3.

Class of ‘28

[player_tooltip player_id='1351253' first='Carter' last='Raney'] - Spring Hill, 5'9”, 155, DB/ATH

Big combines such as this one are great measuring stick opportunities for younger prospects like Raney. He was one of a few prospects to represent the Class of ‘28 and he performed well. Raney topped out at 19.1 mph in his 10-yard split in the 40, and hit 33 inches in the vertical jump.

[player_tooltip player_id='1578110' first='Ryder' last='King'] - Blue Valley, 5'10”,155, DB

This latest KVC was King's second time competing in the event and he improved his numbers across the board. The sophomore-to-be had sold numbers with his 10-yard split and L-Cone time. King recorded a 7.27 L-Cone time and reached 19.8 mph in his 10-yard split.
