To reach as many teams as possible, I am getting started on my preseason team previews earlier than usual. In these previews, I will do a quick review of the previous season while highlighting a few returning players who will make a huge impact in 2025. I will also feature the previous season's and 2025 schedules, and list other notable players primed to break out. I will start alphabetically with Class A, then the first team in Class B, and so on (ex., Bellevue East in Class A, Beatrice in Class B, Adams Central in Class C1,...).</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong><span style="text-decoration: underline">Team Overlook</span></strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The Bellevue East Chieftains may not have had the 2024 season they hoped for, finishing with a record of 1-8, but it was nice seeing several young players stand out and emerge as players to watch in 2025. With teams still being mid-cycle, there are no changes to the schedule outside of flip-flopping the host of the games; featuring big games against rival Bellevue West and Papillion-La Vista, Millard West, Omaha Westview, and North Star, which were playoff teams last season. The Chieftains lose a few key starters, including their QB1 and WR1, so we can expect to see new faces at those positions. One name to watch out for at QB is <strong><em>[player_tooltip player_id='488100' first='Steven' last='Procko']</em></strong>, who got his feet wet on varsity last season, completing 16 of 45 passes for 178 yards and a passing touchdown. Incoming senior <strong><em>[player_tooltip player_id='1667722' first='Owen' last='Grieb'] </em></strong>was second in receiving yards with 224 yards and three receiving touchdowns, while also proving to be a playmaker on defense with his two interceptions. The Chieftains' run game had its ups and downs last season, but it should have a little more stability with junior <strong><em>[player_tooltip player_id='1667739' first='Dominic' last='Smith'] </em></strong>having more experience going into the fall. Regardless, he was still impressed with 292 yards and three rushing touchdowns, while also showing that he could be a receiving threat out of the backfield, adding 100 receiving yards and a touchdown. Another incoming junior I'm interested in getting more information on is <strong><em>[player_tooltip player_id='1085104' first='Ethan' last='Greenwell']</em></strong>, who recorded 36 tackles, seven TFLs, four sacks, two fumble recoveries, and an interception. <strong><em>[player_tooltip player_id='487805' first='Andrew' last='Brown']</em></strong> and <strong><em>[player_tooltip player_id='1667726' first='Rocky' last='Brown']</em></strong> are the top two returning tacklers from last season with 55 and 50, respectively. Andrew also recorded an impressive seven TFLs. One name that I found very interesting while looking through the Chieftains' roster was offensive lineman [player_tooltip player_id='1667729' first='Chase' last='Onken'], a 6'1" and 250-pound tackle who could probably also swing inside to guard at the next level.
