Potential DFW Breakout Candidates for 2025: Defensive Backs

Skill positions excel on either side of the ball in the DFW Metroplex. After checking out some breakout WRs in the region, let's take a look at some of the guys tasked with covering them who should expect big seasons in 2025. From man corners to hard-nosed safeties, there's a diverse plethora of defensive back talent across DFW.    Cook is an extremely fun prospect to watch and should expect another step forward and a breakout in his senior year. He gets involved with his hands at the line of scrimmage and plays with great motor. Cook excels at turning his hips and running with WRs in man coverage. He displays great twitch and is fluid in his back-pedaling. These traits, along with continued development in his frame and ball skills, should result in an electric 2025 for Cook and the reigning state champs. He currently holds offers from 11 schools, including Coastal Carolina, Tulsa, and Texas State.      Turner is a very instinctive high safety who displays stellar sideline-to-sideline speed. He is consistent at getting downhill and finishing plays all over the field. Though not a massive frame on Turner, he makes tackles with power, seeking to knock the ball free. He also demonstrates great change of direction and breakdown ability. Turner should expect to continue progressing his frame, which, combined with his elite track speed, will land him a major breakout senior campaign in 2025. Josiah currently has 8 offers, which include Arizona State, Sacramento State, and Texas State.      Berry is a fluid corner with great ball skills. He excels in man coverage with little wasted movement and solid ball tracking ability. The rising senior is also consistently reactive off the release at the line of scrimmage. Berry will look to keep the turnover chain moving in 2025 after taking a big step as a lockdown corner for the Eagles in his junior season. Expect a big senior season from Lovie and him to build upon his 8 offers, which include Tulsa, San Diego State, and New Mexico State.      Patton is an upcoming star for a powerhouse program. As a sophomore, he already displayed a great frame and elite instincts, accounting for a couple of turnovers, including a pick-6. Playing primarily as a man-up corner, Patton looked like a seasoned vet last year, breaking up passes and making tackles downhill. He excels at using his hands and staying on top of WRs. Expect a massive breakout in 2025 with more experience and further development in the deep part of the field. Ahead of his junior season, Patton already holds offers from 10 schools, including Ole Miss, Mizzou, and Wisconsin.      If you love watching high motor, hard-hitting safety film, you'll love what Udom has to offer for the Golden Bears. He FLIES around the field and loves to put his shoulder down and knock the ball loose. He's a twitchy all-around athlete with great instincts and the ability to finish plays. I believe Udom will break out as a star in 2025 as long as he continues to hit hard and grinds his ball skills to produce more turnovers. Expect his offers that already include Baylor, Houston, and Oregon State to explode after his junior year.
