MD Junior Skills Development Camp Top Performers: Part 2

I was out at the Junior Skills Camp this past weekend put on by the Maryland Football Coaches Association. A great event each year showcasing some of the states premier 2026 talent, as well as being an early evaluation camp for next years Big 33 team. The players came out to work and compete through the rainy conditions and I breakdown some of the top performers on the day in Part 2 of 2.    Colten is a big OT standing 6'5" and even at 275lbs he carries a nice lean frame that should add on 20lbs of good muscle in no time. He has a lot of power and strength in that frame as well. Does a good job keeping his hands/elbows in, engaging with a strong punch and drives defenders down the field and out the way. Colten displayed good knee bend and a smooth kick step during drill work at the showcase. He moves well for his size and keeps his legs churning when engaged with a defender, finishing blocks. Good build/frame and muscled up, performed very well during linebacker drill work. Explosive with fluid hips and able to get his feet going up & down quickly to eat up grass. He is a fast and physical player who comes downhill at full speed looking to hit. Xavier is also an impressive wrestler for Hammond at the 190lb class. You could see that skill sets translate in his movements during the showcase. Able to bend, keep good balance, drop his hips and get nice leverage and power on impact. Xavier plays with great energy and motor out on the field and I think that will be shown to coaches during summer 1 day camps.     Khalib is an interior rush DT who showed well in both drills and 1v1s last Saturday. He plays with good bend, quick feet and a nice first step off the snap. He is athletic enough to win with speed, getting skinny and shooting inside. While also being strong enough to stack & shed off blockers at the LOS to find the ball carrier. On the day Khalib displayed wonderful hand work during 1v1s. Active and quick hands, he slapped away, swam & ripped through OLs arms to get separation and slip by them to get to the QB. A big wide body guy, Calvin is mauler who stonewalls defenders. With good overall strength and power in his punch once he gets hands on the DL it is over. An IOL able to play guard or center, he holds up in tight spaces as you can't go through him or get by him. Too big, too strong and physical, Calvin keep a good base and won't be moved. Look for a strong senior campaign from Calvin this upcoming year.     RJ had a great showing during drills and 1v1s during last Saturday's showcase. He is a big body kid, well put together and is basically a big WR who will play as spit out pass catching TE at the next level. A smoother runner, RJ is effective as a vertical threat or working short passes and getting out to the flats. He displayed strong hands all day long, going up to high point the ball as well as snatching passing out of the air. RJ is athletic enough to create mis-matches all over the field. Lining up as a move TE/H-back to get him in space or lining up against smaller DBs and uses his size & strength to go win the ball. RJ picked up his first offer from Morgan State recently and I expect more to come for him this spring/summer.
