A familiar face, but notable spring riser headlined a long list of multisport standouts who helped kick off the LHSAA's 2025 outdoor track and field state championships Thursday in Class 1A action.

Rising senior athlete [player_tooltip player_id='1237635' first='Isaiah' last='Washington'], a quarterback and defensive back who has led his Haynesville squad to back-to-back Superdome appearances, placed highly in four events.

And he was far from alone in the football flavor at LSU's Bernie Moore Stadium on the first day of the three-day event.

[player_tooltip player_id='1237635' first='Isaiah' last='Washington'] — 6-1, 170 ATH — Haynesville (2026)

The Haynesville quarterback and defensive back continued a strong spring on both the track and the recruiting trail. Washington had one of the best showings during the three days among football/multisport athletes with his first-place triple jump (45-09.75) and 110-meter hurdles (a personal-record 14.77 seconds), his leg of his Golden Tornado's fourth-place 4x200-meter relay (1:30.61) and a third-place 300-meter hurdles (39.55 seconds) in which he ran well overall and still landed a podium finish despite running out of gas late. Houston and Louisiana Tech recently extended his first offers, and several other programs have started to checking in about potentially visiting during Haynesville's spring this week and having Washington come work out during June camps.

Kaleb Bigwood — 6-1, 160 WR — Hamilton Christian (2026)

The Warriors' track standout, who also plays some wide receiver at the Class 1A school, made his way to the podium four times Thursday, going first, second and third in the 400-meter (48.82 seconds), 200-meter (a personal-record 21.19) and 100-meter (11.00 seconds), respectively and anchoring his school's season-best 4x400-meter performance (3:27.79). Bigwood was one of the weekend's best stories as he overcame on-track stumbles and off-track tragedy, losing his mother, to have one of the best performances of the state championships.

[player_tooltip player_id='912293' first='Jermaine' last='Brown'] — 5-9, 170 DB/WR — Kentwood (2025)

The Kangaroos' dynamic two-way playmaker put his speed on display for college coaches in both sports over and over again Thursday with his first-place 200-meter (a personal-record 21.13 seconds), second-place 100-meter (10.87 seconds) and legs of the second-place 4x400-meter (a season-best 3:32.44) and sixth-place 4x200-meter (1:32.26) relays. Brown said a couple FCS-level schools have offered him to run track at the next level, but he is also hoping to still find some way to play football as well.

[player_tooltip player_id='1255219' first='Javonte' last='Williams'] — 6-2, 240 LB — Jeanerette (2026)

The big football prospect showed up Thursday morning, led his shot put event almost from start to finish with his best throw (47-07.75) for last to hold off a strong final throw his closest competitor on the day and win gold.

Justin Suire — OL — Highland Baptist (2026)

The Highland Baptist standout, who has some football background as an underclassman for the Bears, notched first- and second-place finishes in the discus (153-07) and shot put (47-00.25), respectively, for second straight year — and giving Williams a late run for his money in the shot put.

[player_tooltip player_id='1336908' first='Brooks' last='Capps'] — 6-0, 175 WR/DB — Catholic (Pointe Coupee) (2025)

The speedy two-way playmaker for the Hornets notched a pair of podium finishes in his final high school competition with a winning 100-meter dash (10.87 seconds) and third-place 200-meter dash (21.90 seconds).

Justin Labove Jr. — 6-2, 185 ATH — Grand Lake (2026)

The multisport standout from southwest Louisiana won his lone event, the javelin (184-07), with a mark less than a foot shy of his previous season-best.

[player_tooltip player_id='1851177' first='Mason' last='Boyd'] — 5-10, 140 DB — Southern Lab (2028)

The freshman cornerback may be an interesting young prospect to keep an eye on moving forward, considering the speed, stamina and competitive mentality he put on display Thursday at LSU. The young athlete claimed three second-place finishes in the 110-meter hurdles (14.97 seconds), 400-meter run (51.02 seconds) and 4x200-meter relay (1:29.92), which he led off, and then anchored a third-place 4x400-meter relay (a season-best 3:32.70) that helped the Kittens close out their team state title.

[player_tooltip player_id='1380168' first='Bra'jon' last='Melancon'] — 6-2, 160 WR/DB — North Iberville (2027)

Another young prospect who helped raise his profile with a strong showing on the track, the Bears' sophomore wrapped up his school year with second-place finishes in the high jump (6-06.00) and triple jump (45-03.50), a fifth-place finish in the long jump (21-00.00) and the anchor leg of a fourth-place 4x100-meter relay (43.57 seconds).
