Stars of the Region: Wausau

Our regional/city tour across Wisconsin is back on the road and headed for central Wisconsin. Our destination for this trip is Wausau, WI. Home to four different high schools: Wausau West, Wausau East, D.C. Everest, and 8-man participant Newman Catholic. Because of the number of schools we had to dial in our focus to just the city and immediate suburbs within it, but stay tuned as we will branch out further within central Wisconsin in one of our future regions. Before that, let's get into the loaded Class of 2026 talent coming out of Wausau, WI!    We start with a kid that is going to be one of the steals of the Class. That is WR [player_tooltip player_id='1610034' first='Xavier' last='Edwards']. There is so much to love and want on your team when watching Edwards. First off, the size is there. 6'2" 180 lbs with long arms and strong hands. The big target plays with really good body control and ball tracking skills that pair together to allow him to finds ways to adjust and get hands on the ball wherever it is within his catch radius. The junior WR also has the long speed to be a vertical threat. His long strides quickly get him downfield, erase cushion, and pull away when he gets on top of the CB. Xavier is a very talented mismatch out wide. Tap into his highlights below.      Another talented athlete, and arguably the most versatile player in the area, is [player_tooltip player_id='700032' first='Kayden' last='Meverden']. The explosive athlete has the talent to play on either side of the ball. Kayden's short area agility and explosiveness make him a dangerous route runner. He is able to accelerate out of breaks so quickly. Kayden's speed allows him to stretch the field and also execute a lot of crossing routes where he gets left on LBs or safeties, swinging the advantage big time in his favor. Kayden also does well after the catch. He is surprisingly strong after the catch and has the balance to break tackles and absorb hits without going to the ground. At CB Kayden's athleticism, agility, and closing speed allow him to lock down receivers in off coverage or when lined up at the line. The junior does so well playing the ball in the air on both sides of the ball too. Check this kid out. He is an under the radar stud.      A very intriguing edge prospect from Wausau is Teigan Rasmussen of Wausau West. The junior has a solid frame that is filling out well while remaining explosive. Teigan is very athletic for the edge position. He is quick off the line, closes quickly, and also shows off the balance and agility to be able to make tackles 1 on 1 in space vs athletic QBs or RBs. Rasmus is able to be a consistently disruptive force on the edge because of his athleticism. Against HS talent Teigan also shows that he can do everything needed by an edge outside of the athletic stuff. He can also set a strong edge against the run. Obviously he will need time to fill out that frame to do it at the next level but seeing his willingness and success at this level is great to build on for the future. I think we could see a breakout year for one of the top athletes in the city.      One of the top linemen in the city is [player_tooltip player_id='1600914' first='Logan' last='Glovinski'] of Wausau East. Logan was All-Conference at OL while also being an impact on the DL. The junior plays with violent hands and the right mindset. A mindset that has him looking to punish DL every chance he gets. Logan has a solid combination of range to be able to pull and strength. You will also see on tape his awareness for stunts and understanding of who to target pre snap and as the play unfolds. Logan is definitely a kid for D3 programs to have on their radars.      An under the radar QB recruit that is new to my radar is 2026 Joe Graveen. The 6'1" 180 lbs junior is the starter for Wausau West. The three sport athlete is able to get the ball out quick from a high release point. Joe has quick feet that do well setting and resetting so that he has a solid base to throw from. The '26 is able to drive the ball on the short to intermediate levels of the field, even while rolling out of the pocket. The junior will one of the most experienced QBs in the region this fall during his senior season. Keep an eye on him.      DC Everest leaned heavily on their senior workhorse in 2024, and now are looking for the next man up. The next man up in 2024 was Reid Frame. The 5'8" 190 lbs RB was able to pile up almost 300 yards in 2024 while averaging 7.7 yds/att. Reid has such a compact frame with a low center of gravity that allows him to make lateral moves or cut without losing speed. The junior is able to rip through arm tackles too. Plus he has the speed to be effective rushing inside or outside. The junior can be elusive but also isn't afraid to earn the last few yards on a play. I'm excited to see what his role is this fall.      Wausau West is starting to build a tradition of producing impressive TEs. Next up is the 6'4" 205 lbs [player_tooltip player_id='1801577' first='Shea' last='Jones']. The junior has a fantastic frame to continue to build don and fill out. He is an intriguing receiving threat. You don't have to watch long to see his concentration in traffic and strong hands through contact. His size and athleticism allow him to attack the middle of the field and the seam effectively. Along with being an intriguing mismatch as a receiver, Shea is a very effective blocker. He is able to generate power instantly on contact and drives his feet through contact so well. Jones is a very well rounded TE that is only going to become more of an impact as he gets bigger and stronger. Don't overlook this kid. He is definitely one of the top kids in this area.      Coltynn is an undersized recruit for the DL position, but his violence, agility, and closing burst has me thinking he could play at the next level. It just may require an eventual position change. The '26 DL is able to play quickly through the trenches. He has the range to chase down the ball and there are several examples of him turning his quickness into power when engaging with the OL. On top of it all, there are plenty of examples of his high effort and high motor plays. Give the tape a look.
