Spring is when the grind starts to pay off. All the deposits have been made from the winter workouts. Players are getting bigger, stronger, faster; while gains and PR's are being man-handled across the board.

The good weather encourages getting out and school is almost tucked away for the time being.

Plenty to be positive about.

The elite ballers who have been through this annual off-season journey know this is also a dangerous time for getting distracted and allowing training to get incrementally slid to the back burner. With everything going on - spring sports, 7v7, school visits, approaching finals, and extracurricular activities to name a few - the inticements are relentless.

It is sometimes referred to as the tyranny of the urgent, allowing outside noise to crowd out what is important to achieving your goals.

In this report we are focusing on five guys from different classes, playing different positions, from all over the state, who have one thing in common; they don't intend to allow off-season distractions deter them from the fall mission of taking their game to the next level of performance.

So, without further adieu, let's take a closer look at the Tuesday Five:

He has been busy in the off-season and is starting to get major interest as he preps for an encore senior season. As a game-changing, all-purpose back, he was just getting warmed up last year with 1,177 yards rushing, averaging seven yards per carry and scoring 11 touchdowns on his way to all-state honors. And, the word is getting out, as the junior day visits are starting to pile up. Returning from Missouri Western over the weekend, he is scheduled this week with Emporia State and then William Jewell later in the month. He is still working out his camp schedule, but plans to make several Ivy League camps as well as the KC Varsity combine in May, followed by KU, North Dakota and Miami, OH after that. Right now he is busy running sprints on the track team and is also entering phase two of his explosion training. This guy is the real deal and is getting ready to burn it up this fall.

He is coming off a standout junior season when he piled up an eye-popping 120 tackles in only nine games. He plays an aggressive game as a headhunter linebacker with next-level read and react skills. Once he diagnoses the play he shoots the gap like a heat-seeking missile and uses his lateral closing speed to make plays all over. Always looking to get better, he has a busy off-season of daily strength, speed and agility training committed to habit and is also busy with visits and preparing for upcoming camps. Recently returning from a Washburn visit, he will also stay busy in the weeks ahead, attending the Blue-Grey Combine in April, the KC Varsity Combine in May, and Baker, Washburn and Missouri Western in June. He has somehow even shoehorned in some time to play golf and do a little trap shooting. This guy is going to be en fuego this fall - the goal is 150 tackles and he is ready to make it happen.

As the returning state leader in passing yards, as well as the school and conference record holder for all the passing stats, he is building up to a senior-year crescendo this fall. And, he has been busy building momentum already, with visits to South Dakota, South Dakota State, and North Dakota State and is planning on as many as a dozen camps this spring and summer, including events at Drake, South Dakota, Washburn, Montana State, NW Missouri State, Southern Illinois, North Dakota State, Davidson, Wake Forrest, San Jose State, Fresno State, Pitt State and Central Oklahoma. He has been putting in a lot of work with QB Trainer Justin Hoover and is also a pitcher on the school's baseball team. The goal this year is to blow his own record-breaking numbers out of the water and pass for 4,000 yards, 35 TD's and complete 75% of his passes. This guy is a stone-cold gunslinger.

He is off and running on a great start to his high school career and has not wasted any time in his first varsity-level off-season. Coming off a standout 7v7 season, he was big-time busy this weekend playing in the MoKan 7v7 National Championship tournament in Tulsa. He is also competing in multiple events in track and is pumped and ready to shift gears toward camp season, with plans to hit Washburn, Pitt State, Kansas, K-State, and UCO, with others under consideration. His off-season training is starting to pay off as he is bigger and faster than last fall, when he was a two-way dominator at running back and linebacker. As one of the top ranked players at those positions in his class he has already jump-started his high school career in a major way and is just getting started. Get your popcorn ready for the next few years as it is getting ready to be showtime in Halstead.

And, last but certainly not least, we have a young gunslinger QB from the class of '29 who is preparing to make the big leap to the varsity game this fall. Coming off a rare sweep of winning both a football title as a QB, and a basketball championship, as a PG this past year, he doesn't show any signs of slowing down. Currently, in track he stays busy running the 100m, 200m and 400m sprints as well as competing in the long jump. He is also devoting time to work with noted speed and agility coach, Kegan Schumann of Revive Performance. His game is continually developing as a dangerous dual-threat QB who can fire strikes through the air as well as tuck it and go on the run. The Wildcats have an impressive sports culture, with a long history of football success, so it should be the perfect environment for this young baller to thrive. Look for him to quickly make the transition to the varsity game this fall.
