Flight 300 Combine & District Players to Watch

I attended the internal combine for the Flight 300 7v7 organization, held in Newport News, Virginia. This combine was held exclusively for Athletes of the organization ages 12-18. The combine features three standard drill: The 5-10-5 cone shuttle, Broad Jump and 40-yard dash. It was a great experience for the younger and first year athletes to feel of how a camp setting works. while still being comfortable in familiar surroundings. The combine featured athletes who have been making plays during this past fall season and current 7v7 season. Flight 300 has had multiple teams make deep tournament runs at National 7v7 tournaments. This includes winning first place at the University of West Virginia last month. At the Prep Redzone Southern Brawl, multiple Flight 300 athletes were recognized as top performers. They also had multiple team make it to the later stages of the tournament.   Here are a few of the athletes that stood out at the combine:    [player_tooltip player_id='1631030' first='Jayden' last='Short'] (Bethel High School, 2027)   This young man is the definition of a play maker. Standing only 5'8” tall and weighing 152 lbs. He has been electric since stepping on the varsity level as a true freshman 2 seasons ago. Playing both wide receiver and kick returner he has shown the ability to make plays all over the field. Running a 4.7 laser timed 40-yard dash, a broad jump 103.75 inches, and a 5-10-5 shuttle of 4.7 it's easy to see the speed and quick that allows him to make plays. This 7v7 season he has shown a great ability to understand the defensive coverage while playing wide receiver.     Playing at the varsity level since his freshman season, playing on a  defense several Division 1 players, Carey more than held his own during the past 2 season.  He has the combination of experience and attention to detail both major factors for development for a young player at his position. The athletic ability shown on film definitely matched up with his combine number, standing at 5'10” and150 lbs., size for the next level will not be a concern for Carey. If the film and size weren't enough, he also tested well at the combine; 4.6 in the 40-yard dash, 113 inches in the broad jump and 4.53 in the 5-10-5 shuttle.    This next group of players were observed during the 2024 high school season making plays for their teams every week Expectations for the 2025 season are even higher for this grpup    [player_tooltip player_id='1686596' first='Jordyn' last='Hill'] (Phoebus High School, 2028)   Contributing as a freshman is not easy at any position but especially as a lineman. Starting at left tackle for a team chasing its fourth straight state title is even harder. Jordyn, at the age of 14, started most of the season with older brother, [player_tooltip player_id='1231446' first='Jayden' last='Hill'], (Virginia Union commit) and cousin, [player_tooltip player_id='1230216' first='Markus' last='Hopson'] (Howard University commit). He had no problem fitting in and helping lead the Phoebus Phantoms to their 4th consecutive Virginia state title.  Standing at 6'2.5”and 220 lbs., Hill has the frame that coaches at the next level look for in a lineman. With the potential to continue to grow, the next 3 years and beyond look very bright for this young man and his football career.     Derrick White Jr. (Denbigh High School, 2026)   Watching White fly all around the field on both sides of the ball and it becomes obvious why he was named the all-region team. At 6'1”. 200lbs it is easy to see the potential for the next level. Playing multiple positions with physicality on both sides of the ball the entire game. This will be White's first high school season without legendary, Coach Tommy Reamon. White will be leaned on heavily as one of the leaders for a team. There are now new expectations after snapping one of the areas all time longest losing streaks.     James Barge (Heritage High School, 2027)   Possessing prototypical QB size at 6'3” 205 lbs., James Barge will draw the eyes of coaches at the next level due to his size alone.  Showing off a strong arm and athleticism as well, Barge is poised to turn heads this upcoming fall. Looking to build upon his first two seasons, Barge will be expected to lead his team back to the playoffs. The new incoming coaching staff will rely on his ability to make plays on the run, weather its buying time or scrambling down the field.
