2027s with Varsity Breakout Potential

Covering the entire state can prove to be a challenge. Part of that is watching as much tape as I can, even going as far as watching JV guys who could break out next season. Most of the players in this article were JV guys in 2024, but have the upside to breakout at the Varisty level this year. Here are five players who I bet will find success this season.    You want a physical RB? Blake is your man.   Let's start at 0:08. Blake takes the inside handoff, and bulldozes past five defenders for a 70-yard beastmode TD. As you'll see in that highlight, Blake isn't the fastest RB, but he is a bruiser and knows how to stay upright through arm tackles. 1:17 is another great run, this time against an excellent Oxford team. Blake simply follows his blocks, trucks a man, and easily picks up the 1st down. 3:20 against Adams- same thing.   Blake is a rare breed of RB. Very rarely do I see backs run with excellent power. With better speed, Blake could very easily develop into a college prospect.      A great KZoo Central player with a ton of open-field ability!   I'll begin by talking about 0:29. A quick WR screen, hits the hole, and walks into the endzone. Next highlight, same play. Instead, the defense reads it a bit better. Although the defense was in good position, Mykell does a great job running through four arm tackles before being taken down. There are a couple of other routes on his tape, like a post / medium crosser at 2:39. Plus, a few defensive highlights like 0:55. Overall, a very good sophomore season and should have a similar role on Varisty this Fall.      A lefty with a solid arm! Elijah's tape is full of accurate deep passes.   1:10 is one of Elijah's best throws. With pressure closing in, throwing off his back foot, Elijah tosses it right in the bread basket 30 yards downfield. Really, really high-level throw there. Then, 1:26 shows some of his dual-threat ability. A decent amount of twitch and vision allows him to cut back and score and makes the TD look easy.   Elijah is still a little raw, especially when it comes to his mechanics. Still, there are a few very promising throws on tape. I'll keep an eye on Elijah in the coming year- looking forward to seeing his development.      A handful of good routes and physical catches. Coen's 2024 tape bodes well for a potential breakout Varsity season this year.   Coen's first highlight features a great physical catch down the right sideline. Second, a good slant and catch against Howell. Skipping ahead to 0:53, Coen runs a good-looking post, followed by excellent contact balance on his way to a near-TD. Plays like that make me confident about his upside next season on Varsity. Keep working those routes, and keep working that RAC. Coen could be a massive breakout player.      A solid JV slot with upside heading into Varsity. Mehdi's first highlight showcases a wheel route TD. Then, 0:42 shows a solid 7-yard out and first down.   I like the route running. Mehdi is able to run solid routes, but the quality sometimes fluctuates. As for hands, he caught a handful of difficult balls, so there's some optimism there. Very curious to see potential growth from last year to this year. Looking forward to potentially seeing Mehdi at a camp this offseason.
