He is a true North and South runner that gets downhill quickly and shows good leg drive through contact while able to break ankle and arm tackles in the open field. He moves well for his size and shows he can pull across the line straight to the second level and takes the proper angles in the open field. Shaffer is also balanced in pass protection and stays within his frame while able to reset his hands and excels against both speed and power rushers. He is a very fluid receiver with natural hands, ball skills and tracks the ball well over the top while able to stretch the field and run a variety of different in-breaking and out-breaking routes. He shows he can get over the top of safeties and make contested catches with ease and had success against both man and zone coverage. He stacks his routes well, gets in the blind spots of defenders before breaking off and has a true downfield burst after the catch. He shows he can make off-platform catches from various body angles and is twitchy after the catch with the ball in his hands. He is athletic in the box, moves well laterally and can make consistent plays behind the LOS while showing closing speed and range in the open field.
