I'm glad to return one of my favorite article series, “Freshman Friday.” For this feature, I highlight a few freshman prospects (Class of 2028) who I think you should start adding to your prospect board.

[player_tooltip player_id='1596980' first='Noah' last='Cho'] (@Noah_Cho28), EDGE/ATH - Papillion-La Vista - 6'2" 215 lbs

An instant standout on tape, Papillion-La Vista's [player_tooltip player_id='1596980' first='Noah' last='Cho'], immediately popped with his 6'2" and 215-pound frame that you don't see on most freshmen. Cho's combination of size and explosiveness made him a menace on the Monarch's freshman team last season, and you can see him blowing up plays at the line of scrimmage and wreaking havoc in the backfield. He displays a quick get off and active hands, both of which make him very hard for linemen to contain and keep engaged. Once he's sprung free, Noah plays with a relentless pursuit and is very physical at the point of contact. Depending on how Noah's frame fills out, I can see him playing either DE or OLB/EDGE at the next level.

[player_tooltip player_id='1590700' first='Yasir' last='Grixby'] (@YasirGrixby), ATH - Omaha Central - 5'9"

[player_tooltip player_id='1590700' first='Yasir' last='Grixby'] continues the run of players showing up and showing out as freshman for the Central Eagles. Yasir jumped on my radar last summer during a 7v7 game where he was cooking DBs with his clean route-running and RAC ability. He showed that wasn't a fluke, with 23 receptions for 425 yards, two receiving touchdowns, and a rushing touchdown. The thing that stands out the most about Yasir's game is how good he is after the catch, with great vision and burst to help him find lanes and break away from defenders when he hits the open field. Yasir's offensive ceiling is high and I'm expecting we could see more of him on defense next year with some departures in the secondary.

[player_tooltip player_id='1639851' first='Tommy' last='Tobin'], OL - Millard South - 6'1" 210 lbs

Millard South's [player_tooltip player_id='1639851' first='Tommy' last='Tobin'] caught my attention when looking for more freshman prospects as someone with solid base-level skills and the potential to develop into a special player. Tommy played offensive tackle for the Millard South freshman team, where he showed good lateral quickness when corralling defenders who were attacking the c-gap. He shoots his hands well and knows how to work them inside to gain leverage over his opponent. There are still things to work on in order to fine-tune his game, but with how well the Patriots have been developing the position, I don't think that will be a problem.

[player_tooltip player_id='1590722' first='Kamerin' last='Sealey'], DB/WR - Sandy Creek

Sandy Creek's [player_tooltip player_id='1590722' first='Kamerin' last='Sealey'] emerged as a do-it-all star during his freshman campaign that ended in a state championship. Sealey stuffed the stat sheet last season as he had his nose in everything with 419 rushing yards, 667 receiving yards, 11 rushing touchdowns, 11 receiving touchdowns, a passing touchdown, 67 tackles, two TFLs, and four interceptions. Offensively, Kamerin is a silky receiver who can weave through defenses and has the speed to slip past defenders to break free for the deep ball. On defense, he is a top-tier ball-hawk who can also step up to help out in run support. I don't have a lot of tape from Kamerin's freshman season, but I have seen it's clear he has the football IQ and skills to play at the next level.

[player_tooltip player_id='1572361' first='Jevon' last='Payne'], OL - Lincoln North Star - 6'0" 260 lbs

Here's an up-and-coming lineman prospect out of the Capitol to watch out for. Freshman [player_tooltip player_id='1572361' first='Jevon' last='Payne'] had a solid first season as a varsity starter for the Gators, showing he can hold his own playing tackle against some top players. Part of what stood out the most when watching Payne's tape was his mobility, flashing smoothness in his pass sets with quick, shifty feet that allow him to drop back and move laterally very well. He keeps his hands ready to shoot and is accurate when he does strike, hitting his opponent squarely in the chest. Aggressive mind set at the point of attack. Lots to like here!
