Who knew 15 years or so ago, the name "Cooper" would one day become the de facto name associated with great athleticism?

Every now and again when the stars align just so, we as fans, coaches and parents are in for a treat.

In this particular context we are talking about a first name...one that has become almost urban legend when referred to in conjunction with straight-out sporting grandeur on the gridiron and across other sports.

In the case of the name, "Cooper", we actually have quite a few players from all over the Sunflower state named that or something similar.

Something must have been in the water back in the day, because here we are a decade-plus later, and many of them are turning out to be incredible athletes.

In this report we will take a closer look at five guys named? You guessed it: Cooper...a name with a knack for nuking the opposition in whatever sport they happen to be involved in at the time.

So, without further adieu, on this final day in March, and with a promising week ahead of us, I bring you the first of many reports on apex predator athletes blessed with the name of "Cooper":

[player_tooltip player_id='1515945' first='Cooper' last='Reves'] , 6'2, 215, RB, Salina Central, ‘26. It has been a busy winter for the two-time defending state champion wrestler at 175 a year ago and then this year at 190 pounds. He also recently won the Folkstyle National Championship just for good measure. On the gridiron, he is coming off a good junior season, starting six of nine games and making it happen when he did. In his first three games as a starter he rolled for almost 600 yards and six TD's, culminating with 200+ against state-champ Andover Central. On the year he gained 1,128 yards and scored 14 touchdowns. He is a big, strong, explosive back who uses his aggressive, slashing style to pound the rock between the tackles, but also has good burst and is elusive and slippery in the open field. He has continued to train for football while decimating opponents in wrestling and is still in the process of mapping out his camp/visit plans for the summer. Expect him to leave a path of mass destruction once he hits the football field this fall.

[player_tooltip player_id='1539784' first='Cooper' last='Harris'] , 5'10, 160, DB/ATH, Hutchinson, '27. He just wrapped up a successful wrestling season earning all-state honors and then quickly shifted gears toward fine-tuning his skill sets with the Kansas Colts 15U team. He and his Colts teammates have been on a roll, with good showings in Springfield and in making it to the 7v7 championship in Topeka recently. As a versatile, multi-positional player, he can play quarterback, line up as a running back, split wide or line up in the slot or as a wing if needed on offense. On the other side of the ball he is an aggressive, headhunter of a safety with good instincts and a nose for the ball. He diagnoses plays quickly and then uses his closing speed and burst to blow up the passing lanes in his area. With a list of camp invites and school visits offered in hand, he is still deciding on plans for the summer. It's going to be busy in the months ahead but he appears ready to dominate in one way or another in 2025.

[player_tooltip player_id='933826' first='Cooper' last='Ohnmacht'] , 6'1”,185, ATH, Great Bend, '27, at the top of the Cooper Mountain in Kansas is a guy from Great Bend, who is also fresh off recent visits to Iowa State and KU, among others; as D1-recruiters are already making the pilgrimmage to Great Bend, KS. He is an explosive, generational athlete who is getting ready to defend his title from a year ago, when he was a state champion in the triple jump as a freshman, leaping 47+ feet. He is also the school record holder in the vertical, which was 40″ at the time set. On the football field he got his foot in the door as a freshman and then last year warmed up to the varsity game, catching 35 passes for 366 yards and 11 TD's, to go with 300+ yards in returns. He also completed five of seven passes for 150 yards and four TD's when called on to throw the ball. On defense he is a tenacious ballhawk of a defensive back who picked up 41 tackles and a pair of tackles for loss. He finished as a first-team All-WAC ATH and Underclassman of the Year. So, in conclusion, guess what? This guy is going to be pure en fuego this fall.

[player_tooltip player_id='1433319' first='Cooper' last='Cranston'] , 6'0, 185, ATH, Holcomb, '28. Following closely behind Ohnmacht is a baller even further out in western Kansas who is quietly starting to turn heads as a versatile powerhouse in his own right. Backing up a senior QB , he didn't get as many quarterback reps as he would have liked, but shifted gears to helping the team in a variety of other ways, completing six of nine passes for 47 yards; carried the ball 16 times for 153 yards rushing, averaging ten-yards a pop; caught 15 passes for 353 yards and accounted for seven TD's. He also had 66 tackles, two tackles for loss and a pair of interceptions. This spring he has been playing lights out for the Kansas Colt's 15U team and even bumps up to play on the18U team as time permits. He is another generational playmaker with all the tools who is getting ready to leave vapor trails out west this fall. Get your popcorn ready, this guy is going to put on a show.

[player_tooltip player_id='1600233' first='Cooper' last='Glasscock'] , 5'9, 165, ATH, Goddard, '27. He is currently playing baseball this spring, but has been hard at it training for football since the first of the year and is burning it up in 7v7 with KSElite. He has a number of big camps that he is deciding on as well as some smaller ones locally. After last year's brilliance on the 8-0 undefeated junior varsity team, he intends to use it as a springboard for a big season this fall. He is a fluid game wrecker with the ball in hand, as evidenced by his 1,600+ all-purpose yards and 16 touchdowns a year ago. On offense he is positioned all over the formation to get him the ball in creative ways. Once in the open field as a runner, receiver or return man, he is electric creating separation from the pack. On defense he roams the secondary disrupting pass lanes and flying to the ball to make timely hits and interceptions. The Goddard offense is going to hit on all cylinders this fall with this guy in the mix.
