UWEC Futures Exposure Camp: What We Learned...

<p>The UW- Eau Claire Futures Exposure Camp brought out around 100 athletes from across WI, MN, and even IL to learn about the recruiting process, how to approach and execute combine drills, and also get official numbers running those drills. In total the athletes had their height, weight, wingspan, hand size, 40 time, vertical, broad jump, L-Drill, and 5-10-5 all tested and recorded. Through those tests and results we learned a few things about this the athletes involved. Now it is time to breakdown what we learned!</p>   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Mondovi Has An Intriguing '28 Dual Threat QB</h2>    <p class="text-gray-700">Bode caught our eyes during the season as he led Mondovi to an 8-4 record as the starting varsity QB in his freshman year. In the debut season Bode piled up just under 1K passing yards with 9 TDs. He also quickly put up numbers as a rusher. He was second on the team with 688 yards and led the way with 12 TDs.</p>   <p>At the UWEC Combine Bode further solidified that he has next level athleticism to continue that dual threat ability at the next level after three more years of HS development. He posted a 35.4" vertical, 9' broad, and a 4.84 40 yard dash. All great numbers for a his position and age. It is clear that Mondovi has a special mismatch at the helm for the foreseeable future.</p>    <h2 class="wp-block-heading">'27 Left Tackle With All the Measurables</h2>    <p class="text-gray-700">One of the top new additions during the 2027 rankings update was West De Pere's left tackle [player_tooltip player_id='1412712' first='Sam' last='Schmidt']. The sophomore clearly looks the part on tape with his long, lean frame that is ready for that next jump in weight room improvement and mass. It was great to get some verified numbers on the impressive OT. Sam measured in at 6'4.5" 256.2 lbs with an elite 6'6.75" wingspan, and 10.25" hands. The tape shows that the big man can cover ground when he pulls or gets out in space. So his 5.23 40 time was a good number to see. Schmidt brings a lot of uncoachable traits to the field. Don't miss out on this kid.</p>    <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Chippewa Falls OL Is A Loaded Group</h2>    <p class="text-gray-700">We covered the great day from LT [player_tooltip player_id='1610025' first='Noah' last='King'] in our first recap article from the event. Now we are back to tackle about the impressive '26 OG. Carson looks ready-made for the next level. His check-in went great as he measured in at 6'3.25" 304 lbs, with an elite 6'7.5" wingspan and 9.75" hands. That length shows up on the tape too as he is able to always make first contact, and win the hand position battle. I can't wait to see how that extra mass impacts his play in pads too. He already was able to drive IDL off the ball and now over 300 lbs I expect Carson is going to be able to create plenty of force on contact. Teams looking for OL talent need Chippewa Falls HS as one of their destinations.</p>    <h2 class="wp-block-heading">8 Man Sophomore RB Making Noise</h2>    <p class="text-gray-700">I was unaware of Braylon coming into the day, but the 2027 RB made a name for himself with the explosive numbers he put up at 210 lbs. Braylon's big frame also possesses a 6'22.25" wingspan and 9.75" hands. Numbers that suggest the sophomore could continue to grow. The explosive numbers from the day include a 32.1" vertical and an elite 10'1.5" broad jump. Braylon is coming off a season where he was his team's leading rusher with 914 yards and 10 TDs. The physical numbers and stats are there. This is a hidden gem to keep an eye on over the coming years.</p>    <h2 class="wp-block-heading">The Youth Showed Up</h2>   <p>One final takeaway from this event was how well the underclassmen did showing up to learn early in their careers. This Combine was open to the Class of 2026-2028. From the Classes of 2027-2028 we saw 55 athletes. With those athletes were parents/guardians that were ready and willing to get a good base of knowledge on the recruiting experience. Getting the knowledge shared here off the field and on the field is going to be very valuable to have going forward and build upon over the next 2-3 years for these kids. The UWEC staff had a vision and a plan, and the athletes responded well to it. I hope to see this event continue to be a yearly thing and see the youth continue to take advantage of it.</p>
