Since I am now scouting/covering southeast Kansas, I wanted to kick off the coverage this first week in February and continue to provide regular updates going forward.

I will continue my other scouting responsibilities, as this will just be an addition. As a reminder, my primary region is the Wichita and surrounding area, which is approximately a 90-mile radius. I will also continue to be the PRZ focal point for quarterbacks and running backs for the entire state.

In this first report on the southeast Kansas region I wanted to take a look at five of the top quarterbacks getting fine-tuned for big seasons this fall. Three of the QB's below are from the class of 2026, with the other two representing the class of 2027.

So, without further adieu, lets take a quick look at the SE Kansas Gunslingers getting ready to dominate this fall.

[player_tooltip player_id='1113456' first='Kris' last='Harding II'] , 6'0, 185, QB, Chanute, '26, he is already a veteran of two seasons as a starter and this fall is focused on putting it all together for a transcending senior season. I wrote about him fairly recently, but as one of the best, if not the best, quarterback in the southeast region, his inclusion here is a no-brainer. Last fall he lit up the air waves, passing for 1,812 yards and had an excellent 18:5 TD pass-to-interception ratio. He has a fluid arm, with a seamless throwing motion whether he is in a protected pocket or scrambling on the perimeter. He can thread the needle in the short game or dial it up long distance hitting speedy wideouts in-stride down the sideline. He is also a dangerous dual threat who is deceptively fast and elusive extending plays, but is disciplined keeping his eyes downfield looking for the pass and resisting the urge to be a run-first guy. Get your popcorn ready, he is going to put on a show this fall.

[player_tooltip player_id='1585747' first='Carston' last='Simmons'] , 6'1, 180, QB/DB, Pitt Colgan, '26, he is one I covered recently in a quarterback report after coming to my attention in a marathon weekend tape session. The more I see of his game the more I like. He is comfortable throwing from the pocket or on the move and has tight mechanics with a smooth delivery and release. His ball placement and overall accuracy is elite, whether launching rockets over the middle or delivering a feathered touch-pass between defenders. Last fall he completed 62 out of 106 passes for 1,040 yards, a 60% completion rate, 18 touchdown passes and a jaw-dropping zero interceptions. Goose egg. And, no, that ain't a typo. He is athletic and elusive extending plays and last fall picked up 250+ yards rushing to give him 1,300+yards total offense and 28 TD's. He is also a standout on the other side of the ball, picking up 20 tackles and a fumble recovery. This guy is going to be en fuego in 2025.

[player_tooltip player_id='1515918' first='Peyton' last='Hare'], 6'2, 195, QB/LB, Eureka, '26, he is coming off an impressive season as a dual-threat QB who has a powerful frame and hits like a sledgehammer once he gets rolling. He is a fast, slashing runner who burns through arm tackles and picks up big yardage after the initial hit. On the year he carried the ball 84 times for 900 yards, a 10.7 yard average, and 13 touchdowns, which included a sizzling 97-yard TD run. If you're counting, that is a TD scored every six carries. Through the air he passes well enough to keep opposing defenses from loading the box, with quick throws in the flat supplemented by the occasional long ball. He completed 50 of 99 passes for 805 yards, 12 touchdown passes and only four interceptions. He is particularly dangerous on the move and so far seems to be a run-first guy, and when he does decide to run he is a wrecking ball of a runner making big plays. This guy is going to blow it up this fall.

[player_tooltip player_id='1530358' first='Isaiah' last='Main'] , 5'11, 160, Baxter Springs, '27, he is another quarterback who came to my attention recently after he put together an excellent sophomore season last fall. He was unphased stepping up to the varsity game early on and came out firing both barrels. On the year he completed 107 passes out of 200 attempts for 1,671 yards, a 54% completion percentage, 15 TD's, and had 17 picks, the latter number the only negative in his play from last season and he is already working to significantly slash that this fall. He is also a threat running the ball on the perimeter, and had 157 yards and three scores last year. He really showed his potential mid-season last fall as a dynamic playmaker in a wild 48-44 win over Neodesha, when he completed 23 of 37 passes for 460 yards and five TD's. With a breakout season under his belt and working on reducing turnovers he is positioned for a monster season this fall.

[player_tooltip player_id='1113130' first='J'Vonte' last='White'] , QB, 5'11”, 170, Neodesha, ‘27, he is another stud in the making young gun quarterback who played just enough last year to give coaches, scouts and fans a glimpse of the great things to come. Playing on a 3-5 team, he optimized his opportunities as they came up, completing 26 of 50 passes for 438 yards, a 52% completion percentage, five TD passes to only three picks and had a solid 92 passer rating. On the ground he picked up 260 yards on 55 carries for a five-yard average and added another TD. All combined he ended up with just under 700 total yards and seven touchdowns. He is a versatile playmaker who can throw from the pocket or on the move either way. He is dangerous with the ball in his hands and is especially lethal executing the run-pass option using his speed and quickness to keep the defense off balance. He is poised and ready to dominate in 2025.

In conclusion, these southeast Kansas gunslingers are among the best in the Sunflower state, so get them on your watchlists and follow their progress through the off-season. And, as always, if you run across a player or team you think deserves coverage and is not getting any give me a shout via DM on X. Keep grindin'…
