There are additional items I would like to point about the rankings for this particular class. Player stats play a significant role early in the rankings as does the fact that athletes have claimed profiles. Only a couple of athletes in this class have college offers, so that plays a larger factor down the road.

Small school prospects are often ranked higher earlier in the rankings process as they have more opportunities to play early than prospects at a Class 6A or Class 5A program.

It is also important to remember that this class is super young and each prospect could pick another sport to play at college or decide not to attend college.

Prep Redzone scouts will provide multiple reports this week on the Class of 2028.

This first report features the new top-five ranked athletes heading into their sophomore seasons.

[player_tooltip player_id='1083570' first='Baron' last='Marshall'], ATH, 6'2”, 160, Blue Valley Northwest, ‘28

Marshall remains the top-ranked athlete in the Kansas Class of 2028. He already has multiple college offers including from Division I programs Arkansas, Iowa, BYU, Kansas State, and Missouri. He made 17 catches for 238 touchdowns in varsity action as a freshman. He scored three touchdowns. Marshall is also an elite basketball player who could use that sport as a path to college.

[player_tooltip player_id='1075837' first='Tevin' last='Cotter'], QB/ATH, 6'0”, 180, Liberal, ‘28

Cotter rose from the No. 5 slot to now being ranked No. 2 overall. He arguably had the best season among freshman quarterbacks in Kansas. He threw for 1,170 yards and 11 touchdowns in nine games for the Redskins. His most impressive stat was his 56 completion percentage. That shows a ton of poise and accuracy for a freshman.

[player_tooltip player_id='1080736' first='Edric' last='Zorn'], RB, 6'0”, 185, Halstead, ‘28

Zorn jumped up four spots in the ranking from No. 7 to No. 3. He did a little bit of everything for the Dragons as a freshman. He rushed for 181 yards on 21 carries. He caught six balls for 90 yards, and recorded 45 tackles in his freshman season. It will be interesting to see how he evolves as an athlete and if he distinguishes himself on one side of the ball or the other.

[player_tooltip player_id='1285994' first='Jax' last='Lemmon'], ATH, 5'8”, 140, Blue Valley North, ‘28

Lemmon was one of the big stock risers in this update. He is now ranked No. 4 overall after previously being ranked No. 13. He made 25 receptions and found the end zone nine times for the Mustangs. He also recorded one interception. His combination of speed and reliable hands will make him a prospect to track.

[player_tooltip player_id='1544685' first='Darion' last='Myrick'], RB/ATH, 5'7”, 160, KC-Harmon, ‘28

Myrick moved into the No. 5 position after previously being ranked No. 22 overall. He toted the rock 41 times for the Harmon Hawks. He gained 242 yards and one touchdown. He also registered five catches for 30 yards. On the defensive side of the ball, he picked off two pass attempts and recorded 29 total tackles.
