PRZGA 15U Southern Brawl: Flight 300 Team Breakdown

Flight 300 took the long trip down to Gainesville from Virginia this past weekend to compete in our Southern Brawl. Not only did they ride momentum all the way to the championship game, but they also created a bit of buzz around their talented roster. Here is a closer look at some of their top performers from the weekend.    Raiqwan Edlow is a long, lanky prospect who was reliable all tournament long, clogging up passing windows and producing against the ball. He should project long-term as a safety. Late in tournament play, Edlow broke hard on a route to tip the ball up, which ultimately resulted in an INT. The play sealed a 3OT win for Flight 300 and sent them to the semi-finals. Edlow is long, athletic, and active around the ball.     Jaden Williams in on the smaller side, but he navigated the field well and didn't let his frame dictate his game last weekend. When you turn on his HS tape, his twitch sticks out. He matches receivers well at critical points in the route and quickly triggers downhill. For a smaller guy, he is a willing participate as a tackler, something that will raise the floor of his game as he continues to grow.     I will copy my eval from earlier this week on Custis. He looked the part at DB and was physical and productive all weekend long.   "[player_tooltip player_id='1307146' first='Anthony' last='Custis'] improved as the tournament went on and seemingly got better as the stakes got higher. On offense, he flashes some impressive wiggle and change of direction, but his play as a DB is what caught my eye. Custis is extremely physical and isn't afraid to step up and press receivers at the line. He brings the fight throughout the route process and makes receivers work to free themselves. He flies to the football and diagnoses well when coming downhill. In the semi-final game, he jumped out-routes for 2 INTs, and would've had 3 if the offense didn't get bailed out with a delay of game penalty. Custis is long, physical, and made big plays against the ball, all traits that translate."     I will copy my eval from earlier this week on Beatty. He flashed early in tournament play, making impressive grabs over the top of defenders and showcasing impressive focus in the air.   "Johntay Beatty is a long-limbed WR prospect who made momentum-changing plays and consistently won over the top all tournament long. I have him listed at 6'0, but he might be taller. Regardless, he has room to easily add another 20+ pounds to his frame. He got down the field in a hurry with his long strides and leveraged that with enough bounce to go up and get it. He has a large catch radius and was a common target on “gotta have it” downs. He is just a puppy who will only get better. There are a lot of traits to be excited about here."     [player_tooltip player_id='1631030' first='Jayden' last='Short'] made big play after big play over the top all weekend, which is impressive for a smaller target. He is quick out of his stance and gets in his route in a hurry. He flashes some impressive nuance as a route runner, throwing subtle head nods and shimmy in his shoulders to create deception and work DBs off-platform. He had the focus and the hands to make plays when the ball came his way too. Short proved reliable and consistently made big plays.     [player_tooltip player_id='1631335' first='Kumari' last='Humphrey'] is an energetic player who made plays all over the field for Flight 300. Here is an eval from earlier this week:   "[player_tooltip player_id='1631335' first='Kumari' last='Humphrey'] was a smaller guy on his team, but he impressed on both sides of the ball and was always around the ball when it mattered most. After the catch, he had some shimmy and was able to shake loose and create his own yards. He did a good job staying patient and in phase at DB, giving himself at least a boxer's chance to make a play on the football. His ball skills were impressive and remained consistent all event long."     Zay Hendricks put on a show all weekend long and walked away as my biggest stock-riser from the event. Here is an earlier eval:   "Hendricks had little recruiting buzz coming into the event, but he exited by generating plenty of excitement around his name. He is well-built for his age and fires rocket after rocket around the field. He exudes confidence and hit numerous tight window throws down the field all tournament long. The ball comes out of his hand easily. Hopefully, after coming down and performing well in GA, he can pick up a little buzz around his name up in Virginia as the fall inches closer."     [player_tooltip player_id='1350391' first='Elijah' last='White'] is a youngster for this age group, but that didn't stop him from holding his own and competing all weekend. Despite being younger, he was just as big and even bigger than some other guys who were a grade or two older than him. When watching his tape, I am impressed with his movement skills with the ball in his hand. He has an uncanny ability to create his own yards and attack cut-back lanes, traits that should translate nicely to the next level. White could generate a decent amount of buzz out of Virginia as he gets older and develops.
