It was a great weekend of football in Frisco and over the next few days, we'll have a ton of content dropping, looking at some of the best players that stood out. In this breakdown, we're taking a look at Lumberjack Elite and their 12U team that captured the 12U championship on Sunday. After losing to 940 Elite in the final seconds on Saturday, they would match up with them in the championship on Sunday and got redemption. With the win, Lumberjack Elite earned the very first free bid to the Prep Redzone National Championship at the Pro Football Hall Of Fame on April 26th-27th. Below, we take a look at four of their players that stood out during the weekend. Keep it locked into Prep Redzone for more coverage of this weekend's Lonestar State Showdown!

Cannon Smith - 2031 Quarterback

Cannon Smith was in charge of the Lumberjack Elite offense at the quarterback position and he had a really solid weekend. He was incredibly accurate and rarely made a bad pass when we were watching them. Granted, as you'll see in this breakdown, Smith was not lacking some serious talent at the wide receiver position and that obviously helps. But he was quick with his decision making and we were definitely impressed with him. Smith is just a 6th grader but definitely didn't look like it at times when he was throwing the ball down the field and fitting it into tight windows. Smith was probably the best quarterback in the 12U division from start to finish.

DJ Edison - 2031 Wide Receiver/Defensive Back

We didn't give out an official MVP award during the tournament but we can do that right here. 2031 wide receiver DJ Edison was the best overall player in the 12U division throughout the weekend in Frisco. Edison started off strong on Saturday by standing out to us on both sides of the ball. He was making plays at the wide receiver position and then he would turn around and play outstanding defense as a cornerback. That high level of play continued on Sunday as they would make their run to the 12U championship. Edison would have a touchdown catch on offense and then the interception on defense that helped Lumberjack Elite capture the 12U championship.

Garvey McCloud - 2031 Wide Receiver/Defensive Back

Another 6th grader that had a strong weekend for the Lumberjack Elite squad was Garvey McCloud and he stood out to us on Saturday. We got chance to see almost every game that Lumberjack elite played and McCloud definitely was one of the standouts as he had some big moments on both sides of the ball. McCloud really stood out to us later on in pool play on Saturday and we pulled him aside to be one of our top performers for the day. It's no surprise that he had a strong weekend and he's another piece for a team that had some serious playmakers all over the field in Frisco.

Michael Dawson - 2030 Wide Receiver/Safety

Our final standout from the Lumberjack Elite was one of the first players that caught our attention on Saturday. 2030 wide receiver and safety Michael Dawson might have been the tallest player in the 12U division so he immediately passed the eye test and then he had a really strong showing in the tournament on both sides of the ball. But with his size advantage over just about every opponent, he was a match-up nightmare for opponents to deal with when he was lined up at wide receiver. And the thing that we liked about Dawson was the way he bounced back. He had a late drop in the loss to 940 Elite on Saturday but then came back strong on Sunday and had an even better showing.
