The quarterbacks in the class of 2027 are an interesting position group that is going to surprise people with the depth of talent once the season gets rolling.

There were quite a few gunslingers who had opportunities early last fall and took full advantage of the situation in getting their high school careers off the ground.

There was also a handful of future heavy hitters at the quarterback position who ended up biding their time as an understudy to an all-state, senior starter and future D1 QB.

In this report we will take a look at a little of both to give you an idea of the kind of talent who have been waiting in the wings as well as those who have already had a chance to show their stuff.

So, without further adieu, let's check out part of the next wave of underclassmen gunslingers coming up:

[player_tooltip player_id='517090' first='Finn' last='Moore'], 6'0, 195, QB, Free State, '27, is ranked #28, is coming off an excellent sophomore season as a multi-positional baller who gave coaches and fans a glimpse of big things to come. On offense he saw limited action as a back-up, but ran and passed for 200+ yards and showed why he is going to be a dangerous dual-threat quarterback this fall. Where he really shined a year ago, however, was as a versatile defender who can play anywhere in the secondary, or is physical enough to come off the edge and blow up plays in the backfield or on the perimeter. He has a powerful frame with quick feet and burst and is a headhunter who will lower the boom on arrival. He is also versatile on special teams and can punt as needed. This guy is going to be a force on both sides of the ball this fall.

[player_tooltip player_id='1166125' first='Colt' last='Curry'], 6'2, 205, QB, Lawrence, '27, is ranked #32, he is coming off a somewhat quiet sophomore season backing up an all-state, future D1 quarterback, but he put that time to good use and is poised and ready to make some noise on his own this fall. He has prototype size and athleticism and is a dangerous dual-threat gunslinger who is going to surprise some people this fall. He has a strong arm with tight mechanics and footwork who can throw the short surgical strikes as well as the long-ball touch pass. He throws well on the run and can make sharp throws when under pressure or from different arm angles. He is also an excellent runner who puts pressure on defenses when he gets outside the tackles. Get your popcorn ready, he is going to put on a show this fall.

[player_tooltip player_id='1537490' first='Aidan' last='Ihm'], 6'0, 180, QB/P, Blue Valley NW, '27, is ranked #33, he is coming off a solid start gaining exposure to the varsity game and getting ready to take over at QB when he got his shot. He had limited varsity action but when he did was very effective, completing 15 passes in 21 attempts for 281 yards, a 71% completion percentage, five touchdowns and zero interceptions. On the ground he carried the ball nine times for 77 yards, averaging just under nine yards a carry. Throwing on the move or under pressure, he has excellent ball placement and touch. He is particularly dangerous extending plays and attacking defenses on the perimeter with his arm and his legs. He is getting ready for a breakout year in 2025.

[player_tooltip player_id='944912' first='Michael' last='Baum'], 6'1, 175, QB, Blue Valley West, '27, is ranked #140, he is coming off a solid start to his high school career last fall getting some valuable experience understanding the nuances of the game while backing up an all-state senior quarterback. In limted varsity action he showed well, completing 8 of 14 passes for 85 yards, a 57% completion percentage with a passing TD and a pick. He also had three carries for 10 yards rushing. He has all the tools to be a good dual-threat quarterback as he throws well enough to keep the defense on their heels, and has the quickness and acceleration to take it to the house running the RPO or extending plays. He doesn't leave much of a breadcrumb trail to check out his game yet, but I'm confident we're getting ready to see a lot more this fall.

[player_tooltip player_id='1530356' first='Maddox' last='Wells'] , 5'9, 155, Salina Sacred Heart, '27, is ranked #215, and is the lowest-ranked sophomore gunslinger in this report, but is way out in front as a battle-tested starter who put up some serious numbers last fall. He may still be flying under the radar somewhat but after carving up defenses like he did a year ago, that will change soon. Last fall he completed 118 out of 194 passes for just under 1,600 yards, a 61% completion percentage, 17 touchdowns, only six interceptions and had a solid passer rating of 102.0. He really came on strong in the final three games, completing 35 of 56 passes for 670 yards and 10 touchdowns. He was also a baller on defense, making 18 tackles and added an interception. This guy is a playmaker who is going to launch a big-time air attack in 2025.

In conclusion, if you like good quarterback play, you came to the right place. Get these guys are going to sizzle this fall. And, as always, give me a shout via DM on X if you run across any under the radar guys. Keep grindin'...
