Prep Redzone Louisiana continues its winter rankings process this week with the latest 2027 update, following this month's 2025 and 2026 updates and with the first 2028 rankings on the horizon.

Leading up to the complete, 150-player list on Thursday, we will count down the top 40 in more detail.

And make sure to check back following the release for additional features and notes on the 2027 cohort, including looks at debuts and stock-risers.

No. 20 [player_tooltip player_id='469475' first='Jaylan' last='Ash'] — 6-0, 160 WR — Archbishop Rummel

The long, lean receiver broke into a steady role for his Raiders this fall as an athletic weapon on the outside. His quick feet and a good feel for his route-running enable him to create early separation that helps make him effective in goal-line and third-down situations. And, even in tighter coverage, Ash does a good job of using his body — even more so as he's filled out some, now listed another 10-15 pounds stronger — plus springy leap and tall, wide catch radius to create late separation as the ball arrives when necessary.

No. 19 [player_tooltip player_id='1610130' first='Devine' last='Duhon'] — 5-11, 180 ATH — Jeanrettte

Duhon's debut gives Jeanerette a pair of top-20 prospects in the latest Prep Redzone Louisiana 2027 rankings update. The versatile weapon is one of the fastest in the class, a threat to score from anywhere on the field at any given moment as either a running back or receiver. The Tigers' young game-changer compiled more than 1,400 yards and 25 touchdowns as a sophomore with his shiftiness to cut by defenders and explosive burst to quickly hit his top-end, breakaway speed.

No. 18 [player_tooltip player_id='934564' first='Braylun' last='Huglon'] — 5-10, 175 DB/ATH — Calvary Baptist

The buzz around Huglon's potential to become one of the top athletes to come through the Cavaliers' program continues to rise after a second-straight all-district and all-state honorable-mention performance to start his career. We continue to list him primarily as a defensive back, where he is among the best in the state and added another three interceptions to his résumé thus far, but he made a major splash on offense this fall with 32 catches for 668 yards and 11 touchdowns as one of Calvary Baptist's top weapons on that side of the ball as well.

No. 17 [player_tooltip player_id='723579' first='Easton' last='Royal'] — 5-11, 185 WR/ATH — Brother Martin

Royal was a nice piece of a deep receiving corps as a freshman and took a big step forward this fall as a true go-to guy for the Crusaders. He earned all-district first-team honors in the New Orleans Catholic League, one of few sophomores to do so, with his 35 catches for 910 yards and nine touchdowns — averages of 26.0 yards per catch and a score every 3.9 receptions that serve as testament to his speed and explosive-play ability to go with his strong build and some of the best hands in the class.

No. 16 [player_tooltip player_id='934561' first='Rontrae' last='Carter'] — 5-11, 165 DB — Archbishop Shaw

Another sophomore already among the leaders of his team at a high level this fall, the young strong safety earned all-district defensive MVP honors for the eventual Division-II Select state champions. Carter spent a lot of time playing near the line of scrimmage where he racked up many of his 59 tackles, including 43 solo stops and a team-high 6.5 for loss, as a quick, physical playmaker off the edge. But he has also consistently proven himself a ballhawk when called upon in coverage, including a pair of interceptions this season.

No. 15 [player_tooltip player_id='723628' first='Zyron' last='Forstall'] — 6-4, 240 DL — Jesuit

The athletic, increasingly versatile defensive line prospect moves another handful of spots up the class rankings after an all-district sophomore campaign in the always-stout New Orleans Catholic League. The Blue Jays' defensive end is listed another inch taller and 20 pounds stronger and ultimately has the potential to become a disruptive presence anywhere along the line as he continues to develop physically. But he was excellent off the edge this fall with his length, speed, balance and motor and the ability to beat opposing tackles in a variety of ways.

No. 14 [player_tooltip player_id='1356127' first='Ray'Quan' last='Williams'] — 6-0, 165 WR — St. Augustine

and No. 13 [player_tooltip player_id='1323402' first='Miguel' last='Whitley'] — 6-0, 170 WR — St. Augustine

The Purple Knights' dynamic duo makes another jump up the rankings after backing up their strong summer of 7-on-7 with great performances in pads. Williams and Whitley have similar frames and builds, the speed that has made them both game-breaking weapons as deep threats on offense and in the return game, track the ball well and consistently make sure-handed catches. They were two of the four sophomores to earn any level of Catholic League all-district distinction this fall with Whitley garnering a first-team nod in the highly regarded league and Williams an honorable mention (limited primarily by a late-season injury that cost him to miss some games).

No. 12 [player_tooltip player_id='940554' first='Trenajh' last='Smith'] — 6-1, 170 DB — South Terrebonne

The still-underrated defensive back down in the Bayou Parishes backed up our early confidence in his potential as one of the top prospects in the class with his impressive, all-state honorable-mention sophomore campaign. The long, athletic corner racked up five interceptions and nine pass breakups and also showcased his increasing confidence and physicality not only in his press coverage, but with 59 tackles, including a pair for loss, and four forced fumbles.

No. 11 [player_tooltip player_id='1610147' first='Ethan' last='Kimmie'] — 6-4, 190 WR/DB — University Lab

The Cubs' multisport standout caught our attention initially as a freshman basketball player during Prep Hoops coverage last winter. But he makes one of the highest debuts in this round of Prep Redzone Louisiana 2027 rankings updates after a sophomore season on the football field that showed flashes of some talent that could set him up to be one of the state's next high-ceiling tall pass-catching target with a hoops background. Kimmie worked primarily out wide on offense, while also playing well at safety on the other side of the ball. His catch radius and ball skills are immediately eye-catching, but he also shows enough quickness and speed to get free at each level of the field and to make plays after the catch and some good feel for finding soft spots between zone defenders.
