Today, I decided to look at some of the top rising juniors in 4A Division One. These young men were all varsity contributors as sophomores and made an impact for their respective schools. With two years of varsity football left, I think the best is yet to come from them, so make sure to keep an eye on them as they progress.

ATH: Carlos Rojas, 5'10" 175, Riverside

Carlos is extremely slippery with the football in his hands and can navigate his way through congested areas. He's got the speed to get to the edge of a defense, he can run with power and finesse & has excellent contact balance. On defense, he's a physical tackler who speeds his feet on contact and takes smart angles to the ball.

DB: Joel Castaneda, 5'11" 185, Austin

Joel is a rangy defensive back who can play both corner and safety & has exceptional ball skills. He's got the speed to run with faster receivers and track down deep shot throws, he anticipates throws & breaks on the football and does a good job staying over the top of receivers in zone coverage.

RB: Salvador Duarte IV, N/A, Austin

A north and south runner with burst, acceleration, and plenty of build-up speed to gash a defense. He knows how to alter his rush tempo to deceive tacklers, he's got great balance, and is tough to bring down when he has a full head of steam. He's durable, can flip the field as a kick returner, and plays with a chip on his shoulder.

QB: Rodrigo Martinez, 5'10" 150, Ysleta

Rodrigo plays much bigger than his listed height. He's got a big arm, shows easy touch on throws of twenty yards plus, is consistently in rhythm, and has plenty of athletic ability to scramble himself out of trouble. He can make you pay if an end crashes down, he throws well off balance and is as pure as a competitor as they come.

WR: Jasiel Iniguez, 5'10" 170, Irvin

A possession receiver who is quicker than he is fast, is sure-handed and has some wiggle after the catch. He can separate at the top of his routes, he's rarely brought down by the first tackle attempt and knows how to find the soft spots in zone coverage & exploit them.
