Another positional group that showed up in numbers this weekend, the wide receivers at the Next Northeast camp showed up and delivered all afternoon. This is another article covering a host of players because it was too tough to narrow the list down when there were so many great performers on Saturday. Once again, we have a few familiar names on the list, players that have made their presence known at Next camps before, and also have a few new additions to the list. Keep an eye on all of these players as we enter the offseason.

One of the stand out performers from this weekend, [player_tooltip player_id='1586919' first='Cole' last='Magro'] set himself apart from a large chunk of the of the other competitors. Cole is up there with the fastest players at the camp. He first caught my attention on the 40 yard dash, but as I saw him move through the agility drills it became apparent that Cole is special talent at the receiver position.

As we moved to the position drills and live action against the DBs, Cole really began expressing his full potential on the field by carving up silky smooth routes and demonstrating great speed and quickness. I was thoroughly impressed with Cole's quickness off of the line and the speed at which he could transition from one direction to another. Cole is a future slot weapon down the line.

[player_tooltip player_id='1513665' first='Karter' last='Baker'] may be the most high school ready receiver in the entire state. Further developed than most of the other receivers at the camp, [player_tooltip player_id='1513665' first='Karter' last='Baker'] lived up to the hype by putting on a performance on Saturday. I was very surprised by how nimble of a mover Karter was for his size and how quickly he can change directions. As a taller receiver, you wouldn't expect him to get in and out of turns as quickly as he did, but he showed in the cone drills that he has electric cutting abilities. Just as impressive, when it came to downfield routes, Karter burned a few DBs with a quick stutter at the line and a faster acceleration down the field.

Karter is truly one of the top prospects in NJ's 2029 class and all eyes should be on him as he makes his way to the field on Friday nights. I expect big things from him in the future.

Honorable Mentions

[player_tooltip player_id='1583954' first='Hasan' last='Cherry']: 2029 Lincoln Park Middle School

A speedster if I've ever seen one, Hasan has big play capabilities in his future. One of the quicker receivers of the camp, Hasan caught the attention of the coaches with his quickness off of the line and the smoothness in his change of direction. Hasan's fast footwork gave him that extra edge against the DBs this weekend by creating space on the quick, short range routes. Hasan lowered his pad level when getting out of his breaks, really exploding out of a low position as he prepared for the ball to head his direction.

[player_tooltip player_id='1577627' first='Michael' last='Dugan']: 2029 Branchburg Central Middle School

[player_tooltip player_id='1577627' first='Michael' last='Dugan'] is one of those receivers that only got better as the afternoon progressed. To start, he looked crisp on the change of direction drills (L-drill and 5-10-5), making seamless transitions from one direction to the other. With his quick choppy feet, Michael continued his day's success by applying it in the live drills against the DBs. He looked exceptionally good against them in the short and intermediate routes by first beating press at the line and proceeding to get the DB to hesitate any time Michael's feet started moving quickly. There is a lot to like in how Michael plays the position.

[player_tooltip player_id='1361817' first='Mason' last='Koch']: 2029

[player_tooltip player_id='1361817' first='Mason' last='Koch'] is another WR that caught my attention once we moved to the live action against the defenders. At every level Mason showed that he can take advantage of the movement of the DB and put himself in a position to make it an easy pitch and catch. On those very footwork driven routes (comebacks, outs, slant, etc.) Mason forced the DB to move in the wrong direction to get their hips turned, only to catch the ball a moment later. Downfield, Mason has a lot of potential to be a threat down there as well as he made the most acrobatic catch of the afternoon.

[player_tooltip player_id='1507905' first='Louis' last='Navarro']: 2029 Parisi Academy

If you're looking for a receiver with some fancy footwork, look no further than [player_tooltip player_id='1507905' first='Louis' last='Navarro']. Louis is another receiver that could get in and out of different positions quickly, not slowing down much when he changed directions or broke on his route. It's very apparent Louis has worked on his footwork and speed throughout the offseason, as he always had them moving when putting on double moves or beating the DB at the line. With the ability to extend out for the ball as well, Louis can make the catches in traffic that teams need in crunch times.

Nathan Wortley: 2029 Glen Rock Middle School

One of my favorite prospects of the entire camp, Nathan Wortley stands out as one of the top tight end targets in the state. Jumping right in with the receivers, Nathan was a big time downfield target that was snagging the ball out of the air to keep it away from the defender. He has great size already for his age and showed that he also has the potential to be a great receiving target as well. With great hands skills and a larger frame, Nathan is a going to be a mismatch for defenses at the high school level.
